There was no debate, no media coverage, and no vote ... just President Clinton signing into law whatever he believed "is the right thing to do." "Stroke of the pen. Law of the land. Kinda cool," said Mr. Clinton´s senior advisor Paul Begala.

Wonder why all this stuff is just now becoming a "problem"?

Anybody got any idea?

It was wrong with Lincoln, wrong with FDR, wrong with Clinton and wrong with Bush! It doesn't matter which party is in control of the Whitehouse when they ignore the US Constitution and abuse their power, it is wrong, regardless of what excuse they try to give to justify it!!

We need to limit the powers of the President to what is offered him in the Constitution so that when an evil president less christianlike than Mr. Bush is in office we are not at the whim of an evil dictator. That said, I hope they're not only tapping into American conversations with known terrorists but also arriving at their door and charging them with conspiracy and hanging them publicly immediately after trial for treason against the United States of America.

Bill Clinton Signed Executive Order that allowed Attorney General to do searches without court approval

    http://www.fas.org/irp/offdocs/eo/eo-12949.htm

Jimmy Carter Signed Executive Order on May 23, 1979: "Attorney General is authorized to approve electronic surveillance to acquire foreign intelligence information without a court order."

    http://www.fas.org/irp/offdocs/eo12139.htm

It wasn't okay for them to ignore the Constitution and it's not okay for GWB to do so either! I oppose the use of Presidential executive orders that make law or otherwise usurp the Constitutional authority and responsibilities of the legislative and judicial branches. This Constitutionally subversive practice must be stopped by Congress. All unconstitutional executive orders must be repealed.

We can insist on protecting all the rights we have whether real or imagined, but the cost will be measured in lives.

We're now under attack by monstrous human beings, evil to the core, and we must adapt our tactics, and methods of detection, interdiction, and prosecution. One way to prosecute is to give the military and homeland security, more tools, and methods, not less. The Patriot act dismissal is yet another terrible decision, whose motive is to get Bush.

9/11 didn't happen because of lack of monotoring of the terrorist. 9/11 didn't happen because we didn't have the Patriot Act. 9/11 didn't happen because we didn't have a National ID Card.

9/11 happened because we had and still have a weak immigration policy, we allowed the terrorist to come into our country, train in our country, and because we refuse to use wise profiling at airports, we allowed the terrorist to pay cash for one way tickets on multiple flights without any questions.

We don't need the federal government to continue to grow to protect us from terrorist, we need it to do what it is supposed to do and close the borders and focus on defending our country rather than experiments in democracy in the Middle East. Just remember by giving GWB the "war powers" to ignore the Constitution, you are not just giving these abusive powers to him, but to the office of the president and every POTUS to follow, starting with Hillary in 2008.

Once again we are in total agreement. When they give me Chuck to read, I want to upchuck. Chuck is king of the cut and run crowd. He can rest assured that no one sane would ever bother to monitor his telephone calls. God must be patient to allow a preacher to so attack his own country and to allow a preacher to so expose his own country to Islamofascist enemies.

The President has inherent authority to defend this nation. The far right is going to get an incurable veneral disease from sleeping with the liberal Democrats.

Incredibly there are some that will still say that the media is no more against the Republicans than Democrats. Michelle Malkin posted a story recently detailing how spy satelites were used to observe a white supremacist camp in Oklahoma after the OKC bombing. No yelps from the NYT, ACLU, et al.

Apparently its OK for a Dem to illegally use government assets to investigate any but especially supposed right wing nuts. However if a Rep president uses assets after getting judicial and legislative support... he is still guilty of trampling privacy rights.

I don't mind the eavesdropping because I'm not a terrorist and I don't plan on becoming one. I love my country, what it stands for; and I want it protected so that my family is protected.

The American people don't need to know everything that goes on, why decisions are made or who should make them. The average American is not privvy to all the facts and information available to the President. If we knew everything he did, so would our enemies. As bad as Bill Clinton was and as inept as Jimmy Carter was, they knew more about running this country than 99% of Americans do. Most of aren't smart enough to lead even if we had all that information. We forget that there's not just one person running this country. There's Congressmen, Senators on national and state levels, mayors, governors, local boards; we even vote for the dog catcher! Our system is designed to be redundant, so that there can be no dictator imposing his or her will on our lives. It's not a perfect system, it's not even a biblical system; but it's the best one at this time.

I am encouraged to know that the Father has the hearts of the kings in His hands. I know that He has a purpose and a plan and that nothing we can do, or fail to do, will prevent His plans from happening. No, America is not the country it was four hundred, even one hundred years ago. Our way of life may be in its decline; but God is in control. We're but pilgrims passing through to our eternal kingdom and He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us nor to let even one of us slip from His Hand.

We ought to vote for the most Godly candidates, we ought to stand against ungodly cultures and to defend ourselves against attacks from those who hate us and our God. The world we once knew has changed. It won't ever be like it was, so it's up to us to make it into the best world we know how by allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us and protect us.

I believe that this is just a step towards the control that the anti-Christ will have during the tribulation over people. I don't like what is happening to our rights but I do believe it is part of a bigger plan

Well spoken, larry9179, very well spoken!

Pro 21:1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

I for one was guilty of not praying for WJC as I should, but can you just imagine the effect if he had become a professing, born-again believer? With his charismatic personality he would have been one whale of an influence on society.

Can (will?) we as Christians lift GB as our current leader and pray for his yielding to the HS as he conducts the affairs of state? Or will we choose to just repeat the platitudes we see daily and pleasure the devil by our petty politics?

Well, you're right in one sense, but wrong in another. Sure we have a weak immigration policy, but if the governemnt would have been monitering people that were in the United states, it wouldn't have happen. I don't see any problem with this. If you're doing something wrong, then sure, be worried. But if you're not, why worry? And we all know that they are not monitering our phonecalls to Uncle Jimmy down the street. They are monitering oversea phonecalls which they feel could be a threat.

I don't believe FISA matters one way or the other.

No court has ever ruled that FISA overrules the Constitutional and statutory authority granted to the President.

FISA is just a rallying point for the media and dishonest democrat politicians.
