The Prom

    Is your school having a prom this year?

    Are you going?

    My high school is having a prom this year, but I'm not going. The prom here is a big thing, and the only people that aren't going are a small number. The theme of the prom is Mardi Gras. I guess the reason I'm not going is because I've never really seen the point of prom. It's just another school activity where afterwards kids go and get smashed.

    I went to my prom in school and unless something drastically changed I remember there was no alcohol allowed and in fact in our particular prom they had the crash scene dummies handing out six packs of either coke or pepsi to promote safe driving. I quite enjoyed our prom.

    I never went to prom becuase the one guy I wanted to go with asked some other girl (We were just friends, but I still wanted to go with him) I didn't want to go by myself. I was a little sad that night, but now, I don't really care. It was just a dance.

    Grace, I had a similar experience, but the guy I liked was asked by one of my best friends. They went as friends, and I wasn't heartbroken because I would have been too shy anyway!

    You'll never guess who the guy was....

    I graduated in 1984 and our theme song was "Seperate Ways" by Journey. It was a tropical theme with pink and green as the main colors. I chose not to go because when all the girls where getting there dresses they where talking about how much they had paid and how much the guys paid to rent a tux. I just couldn't bring myself to ask for that kind of money for a dress I would probably never wear again. I talked to the guy I was dating and he wasn't crazy about going either so he just took me to a nice restruant and we hung out instead. All the seniors where suppose to leave the prom early and going to the motel at the lake to rent rooms and get drunk. I don't think I missed a thing by not going to the prom.
    I was told several of the kids had started drinking and drugging before they even got to the prom. ~Sheila~
