We have a young man staying with us for a visit and he is 14 yrs old. He is the only son in a family of six. A black family in our county is rare and I wanted to meet them and befriend them knowing that they don't get anyone "just stopping by". We formed a great friendship and then they moved south into Tn. approx. 60 miles and now we see them very seldom. This young man is a great kid. Honest, caring, obedient and just plain all boy. We used to fish alot together and since he moved he comes to stay with Debbie and I about twice a year for two or three days. I was in conversation with him today asking him about the church he goes to and I got my basket loaded. He commensed to telling me that the pastor of the church they attend now in Nashville is teaching that concubines are a necessity for Christianity today. He says his parents do not agree, but they stay on and attend the church.

Has anyone else heard of such going on your locale?

Some churches in my area seem to have some pretty unbiblical beliefs and practices, but I have never heard of one that teaches that concubines are right for a Christian, let alone a necessity for Christianity!

I have to second what brother David said. I have heard some strange unbiblical beliefs, but never anything like this! Unless maybe its a mormon church.

I would like to here this mans reasoning for saying concubines are a necessity.

Are your concubine's parents, your concu-laws? Okay, let's all sing The Concubine Song, with lyrics by your buddy MP!

If you wifey thinks it's fine,
    Go get yourself a concubine!
Extra spouse, it's in the book.
Give the wife a break, let the concubine cook!

    If your wife cannot conceive,
Have a concubine there up your sleeve.
    She'll produce your wanted heir,
If the wife is glad to share.

    You'll be one big family,
You, your spouse, and conc makes three!
Some may think that it's a sham,
But just take a look at Abraham.

If your friends think that it's odd,
Tell them it's ordained by God.
Then your neighbors all can see,
That concubines were meant to be!

Bart, NOTHING should surprise me but this did.
Wow, they aren't mormons are they?
Does the pastor have a concubine or is he the husband of one wife?

I can see a person making excuses to have a concubine but to say it is necessary? Wow.

That's beyond shocking to me and NOTHING I'd expect from even a liberal church! Wow!! I'd be on the phone with the parents and speaking to them about questioning whether that church is a church to be in. If they teach something SO against Scripture as that, what ELSE do they teach????????

Why would anyone want a concubine?

Isn't a wife and a daughter in the house enough women? A concubine would simply add another hair bursh, another curiling iron, a different kind of shampoo, more make up sitting around, someone else to ask/tell me to take out the garbage, someone else to point out that I have been on the BB for six hourse, someone else to send me on errands. So I ask again why would anyone want a concubine?

FTR, the "main-line" Mormons, i.e. the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS), along with the second largest group, the Community of Christ, nee Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (RLDS), do not teach polygamy, and have not for a century.

It is what are considered the 'renegade' sects of this tradition, such as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS), of Eldorado, TX and Warren Jeffs infamy, that are involved in this.

In OT times, I don't think the concubine got all the privileges of the wife, like washing dishes and doing laundry, ect.....I think she just provided the ahem....pleasures of life.
