The question has now come up, as what to do with the now identified remains of some of the terrorist from 911? The FBI has them now, and as of now, no one has come forward to claim them.

What should we do with them?

Some say, "just throw them away!"

Some say, "Do the opposite of what they would have wanted done!" "Like a christian type burial!"

I think we should treat them as the creations of
our God that they are. Since we do not KNOW
for SURE what religion they may have been,
since they have not been claimed.

Cremate them all together, mix their ashes, then
divide them in fifths. Give each a proper ecumen-
ical funeral, presided over equally by a rabbi, an
    Episcapalian, a Greek Orthodox, Pentecostal,
and a Baptist. Then let each one do with the
ashes what they think is proper. This way, each
one will individually receive proper treatment
with respect for their life's work, according to
    American religionists.

I'm sorry if I am stupid here. If they were terrorists and were all working for Al Qaeda, doesn't that tell us their beliefs? Are the relatives not coming forward for a reason?

I know. I was being mean. As I said on the
    other similar thread, "passive-aggressive."

Since from the evidence now existing, these men are now in Hell. Hence, they are now being judged by God. As for their earthly remains, under the uttmost secrecy place them in a single coffin. Then turn the coffin over to the NYC Coroner's Office for burial in their Potter's Field. Lacking that possibility, place the coffin on a Coast Guard Cutter and have the USCG drop it overboard without fanfare or ceremony 30 miles out to sea. The key in all is not to let there be any place for a martyr's memorial.

The countries of origin should take back their people's bodies, but if they refuse, then I would agree with the plan to give each of them a pauper's burial. They should be considered as criminals.

If we sent the remains back to their countries of origin, there would be celebratory funerals. The idea is not to let these jihadists get anymore honor. On the other hand, their remains should be treated with a minimal respect due to their being God's handiwork. Ergo, I do not support the idea of cremating these individuals.

The learned gentleman must know better than I that this return of dead bodies is an issue as old as time. It seems to me that I tried to read an English translation of a Greek play on the subject; and look at what was done to bodies in cases such as King Saul.

If Saudi Arabia wants to celebrate, who would be surprised? In all due respect to the others here, why do we want these men buried in America? Also, and I close with this, we are trying to bring the remains of our men back from Viet Nam, which seems to me to be what is natural from the human viewpoint. But I will agree to what you yourselves think is best.

I have no qualms about returning remains of the enemy dead to their grieving families for proper burials. I do however not want the action to be the occasion for any "Death to America" demonstrations. Nor do I want their tombs to become rallying points for our enemies. The return of war dead after a war is over is one thing. To return them during continuing hostilities is quite another.

    SmokeEater --

I was being passive-aggressive; you are just
    plain aggressive!!! 8oD

I was making a play upon the facts that, first of
    all, they are supposed to be burried right away;
second, the whole body is to be burried in one
place, all together; third, they don't believe in
cremation, and fourth, having the service done
by all those religions over all the mixed ashes
    of all the bodies.

    Wrapped in pigskins? Oo-oo-oo-oo!!

    OK, you got me. ;)

I've grossly underestimated you. I like your idea. Think I'll make that my backup plan. Way to go!
