The Bible is made up of 66 books; not 27, not 39.

    You know, a kid drinking a milkshake...another holding a guitar...one on a skateboard...all sinful, worldly individuals.

Praise God He has freed me from this vice that is legalism!

You've never owned or read from a pocket NT? Do you refer to the KJV in NT pocket form "worldly trash"?

With all respect, I seriously doubt that you really believe and practice this, actually. In fact, I doubt about anyone practices this much, at least not consistently.

I'm not even going to mention anyone's preferred translation, except to say that some individual or some group of individuals 'translated' every word in every version from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Think about it.

Does the Bible you (or I) use have a Table of Contents, an Introduction, or an Index?

    Marginal References of verses?

    Maps?

Might it be a "Study Bible" of any sort?

Every one of those things is something "bundled" with the text to make it, in some manner, more appealing. And some of them are things found in almost every Bible one can buy. And that goes far beyond any one version, as well.

BTW, the Bible I use has all six of those things "bundled with" the actual text.

So if one were really consistent about this, one would no doubt, tell me to get rid of my current Bible, right?? And replace it with what??

Webdog, I feel your pain, and your charge of legalism seems to be the correct diagnosis.

Ed, I think Webdog has nailed it: This has the stench of legalism.

    No doubt!

And that odor was noticable twelve pages ago, long before I finished reading page one! :tear:

How about the article about movies? or do you not consider Hot Movies to be worldly?

You apparently have no concept of what "legalism" really is. This is not legalism in any form or fashion.

    BIBLE

The Christian Scriptures. The word "bible" is from the Greek word biblios, which means a book. Though there are 66 individual books in the Bible, it is one Book divided into two major sections-the Old and the New Testaments.

Nothing in this definition says it is a worldly magazine.
These things are not "additions" to make the Bible more appealing---they are there as "helps" in Bible study.

    1. Here's S Lewis Johnson on Legalism in his essay "The Paralysis of Legalism":

"One of the most serious problems facing the orthodox Christian church today is the problem of legalism. One of the most serious problems facing the church in Paul’s day was the problem of legalism. In every day it is the same. Legalism wrenches the joy of the Lord from the Christian believer, and with the joy of the Lord goes his power for vital worship and vibrant service. Nothing is left but cramped, somber, dull, and listless profession. The truth is betrayed, and the glorious name of the Lord becomes a synonym for a gloomy kill-joy. The Christian under law is a miserable parody of the real thing."

    2. PastorBob, Why what you're proposing doesn't fit with what the professor says?
