    John 3:16

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

    Eph 5:25

    25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Folks the World that God Loved and Gave His Son for, is the Church that Christ Loved and gave Himself for !

Lets do a word study here. The word for world is the greek word kosmos and means:

an apt and harmonious arrangement or constitution, order, government

    2) ornament, decoration, adornment, i.e. the arrangement of the stars, 'the heavenly hosts', as the ornament of the heavens. 1 Pet. 3:3

    3) the world, the universe

    4) the circle of the earth, the earth

    5) the inhabitants of the earth, men, the human family

    6) the ungodly multitude; the whole mass of men alienated from God, and therefore hostile to the cause of Christ

    7) world affairs, the aggregate of things earthly

    a) the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments riches, advantages, pleasures, etc, which although hollow and frail and fleeting, stir desire, seduce from God and are obstacles to the cause of Christ

    8) any aggregate or general collection of particulars of any sort

    a) the Gentiles as contrasted to the Jews (Rom. 11:12 etc)

Notice, that the world is any aggregate or general collection of particulars of ANY SORT !

    We cannot ignore these definition.

Now what is this word aggregate mean ? Our english dictionary says:

formed by the conjunction or collection of particulars into a whole mass or sum; total; combined

a sum, mass, or assemblage of particulars; a total or gross amount:

Now notice the word assemblage as in assemblage of particulars. The word means:

a group of persons or things gathered or collected; an assembly; collection; aggregate.

Now I derive at this from a simple study of the word world !

Now lets look at the word Church in Eph 5:25. It is the greek word ekklēsia and means:

a gathering of citizens called out from their homes into some public place, an assembly

    a) an assembly of the people convened at the public place of the council for the purpose of deliberating

    b) the assembly of the Israelites

    c) any gathering or throng of men assembled by chance, tumultuously

    d) in a Christian sense

    1) an assembly of Christians gathered for worship in a religious meeting

the whole body of Christians scattered throughout the earth

    5) the assembly of faithful Christians already dead and received into heaven

The Church is an assemblage ! And an Assemblage as we see is also a World !

So the World of Jn 3:16 that God so Loved, was none other than the Church that Christ Loved and gave Himself fr !

The total collection and gathering of the sum total of all the Sheep as Jn 10:16

16And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Yes, this One Fold of Sheep is the World God so loved !

So the word world does not have to mean everyone without exception !

The assembly of the Israelites alone technically by definition is a World ! The Assembly of the Spiritual Israelites, the Israel of God is a World !

I believe that verse is referring to God loving the whole world, but that He gave His Son for only those in the world that believe.

I refuse to believe that God died for people who are burning in hell

It is, of God's Elect, His Church !

I agree, but you sound inconsistent, not unless you count the whole world as God's Church or Elect !

I agree, I will never believe that lie..

Jn 3:16 can very well read without any violation of Truth Jn 3:16

16For God so loved the Church, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. or

16For God so loved the assembly, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The Fabrication of saying that God Loved all men in the world without exception !

    Romans 9:13

13As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

How can it be sincerely taught that scripture teaches that God loves all men without exception, when it specifically says of Esau, God Hated ?

And I got news for you, He did not only hate Esau, but all the workers of iniquity. Ps 5:5

5The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

And they that work iniquity shall soon hear these words Matt 7:23

23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Yes, these and those in Ps 5:5 are the very same !

My Grandfather was named Jacob but I don't know anyone named Esau. Jacob was not a Christian. I'm pleased that God loved him.

Jn 3:16 tells us of God's Love for the world, but never specifically states that God loved all mankind as individuals without exception, that has been read into the text by those who care little about the Truth of God.

And such a verse as Jn 3:16

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Must and should be explained by other verses of scripture that speaks on the same subject as God's Love of a People.

First lets look at at an OT scripture that speaks to God's Love to a People Deut 7:6-8

6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

7The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

8But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

We find here something extremely important about an immutable God and His Love. That God's Love is set upon a people He chooses look at Deut 7:7

7The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

Notice too that His Love is set upon the fewest of all people.. This should be a big eye opener for us, God Loves not the masses of mankind, for those He Loves are the few of mankind.

Remember Jesus stated about finding the road that leads to life that few find it Matt 7:13-14

13Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Those few, are and will be those God Loved.. So God so loved the world, means He loved a few , chosen ones in the world, His own special ones.

    Jn 13:1

1Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

The jews would have known from deut 7 that God's Love was exclusive for only some, but what they did not know was that some was not limited to them, for God loved some as well of different people groups, outside of their race; but His Love was nevertheless limited to a certain people, but just not to a limited location or race, it was the world at large that this special loved and certain people would be located..

That being the case you have no guarantee that you are one of the few that are loved, and not one of the majority that are not loved. You have no guarantee that you are of the elect. If God only loved a few, how do you know if you are "of that few" that God loved. You have no assurance of salvation do you? How do you know that Christ died for you??

My friend. Do not get me wrong. I do not believe that John 3:16 applies to every human being on earth, but only those that believe. Anyone who says different must admit they are bringing their own presupposition to the table when reading the entire passage.

When I said, I believe God loves the whole world; using a systematic theology. In the story of Jesus and the rich young ruler, the ruler demonstrated that he didn't believe and gave no indication that he would, but Jesus still had a love that desired salvation for him.

    Do you agree?

My friend. I can appreciate your repugnance of such a thought and believe that Savedbymercy is being extreme, but might I say in defending God's character from Savedbymercy's interpretation that you are going to another extreme; that God loves everyone including the ones He sends to face His wrath in hell to be tormented for all eternity. Does that really make sense especially to the unbelievers?

Please do not misunderstand. I am not saying you are wrong, only that your view is not as coherent as you might think. Might I suggest, that the answer lies in between.

Actually it is. If Christ did not die for all, but only a few, how can you be sure that you are one of the few? This is your theology isn't it? You need to be able to defend your own theology, even as it relates to yourself.
Who would dare say: "I am on my way to hell."
IOW, How do you know you are on your way to heaven?

I have said many times on various threads that I am not a Calvinist.
That being said, John 3:16 means exactly what it says: "God so loved the world..." That is all the people of all the ages in the world, no exceptions. He gives to all the chance to believe. In Romans 1:20 it says that they are without excuse. Man must decide whether or not they will trust Christ as Savior. It is their decision. Christ died or made atonement for all the sins of the world. If unbelievers refuse the gift of God, Christ still died for their sins, but those ones have refused the gift; they failed to appropriate that gift to their own selves.

I didn't say you did. I was just making myself clear so you wouldn't have any pre-conceived ideas about my beliefs.

If that is what you want to believe, so be it ! However its about the world that God Loves, and scriptural proof that its not all men without exception..
