I remember reading one time about a person talking to a group of elementary school kids. He asked, "Do you think God understands computers?"

The kids, relating God to their parents & grandparents, replied, "NO!"

Same sort of reasoning here, tho' worded a bit differently. God obviously never knew His word would be read at a time when "SCIENCE" could corroborate/dis-prove His word.

Either that or He wanted to make sure there was a fly in the ointment just to keep men in the dark as to what the truth really was/is!:BangHead:

I'll just take Him at His word, and later He will tell me whether I should have figured that it was all allegory/parable, or non-literal in whatever fashion!

Yes, this was originally a post about me being called "the worst Christian ever" by a non-Christian who didn't like me calling evolution a "lie of the devil." Then she proceeded to say that I had called her a liar and keeps insisting on that "fact". I called the devil a liar--so is she saying that she is the devil by saying I called her a liar? Interesting!

Yes, Jon-Marc, in regards to the OP the comment itself directed towards you was uncalled for. Whether a person is a believer or unbeliever, no one should fear respectful and civil debate and discussion.

Everyone knows that you and you alone gets to decide that, just like to you get to decide who is saved or not .
That's just fine, then you'll have to count your assessment of other peoples' scriptural views as just yours, if you want to be consistent in your reasoning.

I suggest (you know - not giving an order) that we all realise:
This lady jumped to a conclusion. I know some days the only exercise I get is jumping to conclusions :-(

I can not accept that the answer to "who do you say that I am?" is a non-essential. And certainly to say that God is not creator of the universe, is saying a lot about "who do you say that I am?!"

I had a liberal Southern Baptist prof in college that tried to tell that the virgin
birth wasn't an essential either. I didn't buy it 20 years ago and I'll still don't.

I'm kind of narrow, I believe that the God the creator of the universe, and God incarnate's virgin birth are both completely essential.

    God Bless,
    robert

Hang in there Johnv, you are right.

Of course, taking every word in the Bible literally means somebody better find those four corners of the earth.

Of course, it IS possible to take God literally in Genesis and NOT come up with young earth creationism.

But that seems to be the "test of the day" regarding who is "in" and who is "out".

Amusing. I remember when only liberals disavowed the gap theory.

If you do not know what the literal translation of scripture is you should refrain from talking about it so you do not look foolish.

Funny you should mention that. I argued that I don't take Song or Solomon literally, because it says Solomon's lover is the most beautiful of all women. Clarly, my wife, and not Solomon's lover, is the most beautiful of all women. I was told that I didn't believe the Bible, and even had my salvation questioned:

So, I might be hellboind, but my wife is still more beautiful than Solomon's lover. :wavey:

No, we cannot take everything in the Bible literally. If so, then that means that trees have hands that they clap, and other symbolic statements that are not meant literally.

I said almost that exact same thing before, and got my salvation question. Go figure.
