I just don't see Bush or any President saying, "Okay, let's hire some Al Quedda people to fly planes full of US citizens into buildings."

After reading through a bunch of 9/11 conspiracy mongering last weekend and watching a couple of their documentaries, I was left with the impression that covertly hiring some terrorists was probably an easier plan to carry out than the Rube Goldberg schemes the conspirinauts were concocting.

Poncho, the Cuban invasion plan is hardly analogous to a US President getting terrorists to fly planes of US Citizens into buildings full of U.S. Citizens on U.S. soil, including the Pentagon!

I'm well aware of the CIA and secret plots that target foreign places and people (my father worked for the gov't and I knew a few CIA people and played with their kids) - but to say our President conspired to kill US citizens on U.S. soil, and to fly into the Pentagon is just way over the top.

I am afraid, Marcia, that poncho has come under the influence of people like Alex Jones. I have listened to Alex Jones on my portable shortwave radio some. He's quite interesting to listen to but I don't buy into what he says.

The explanation that really stretches the imagination is the official story. After 9/11 over 50% of New Yorkers and about 60% of Europeans didn't accept the government's explanation. Do you believe that the world's strongest military couldn't scramble fighters to protect it's two most important cities? I don't.

I can believe it. We were caught off guard, just as at Pearl Harbor on 12/7/1941.

    I do.

The world's strongest military could sometimes (or will it be more proper to say, oftentimes) be hindered by sheer stupidity of intelligence (speak of paradoxes), civilian bungling, liberal media pressure compounded by a press who's there for any story that will give them moolah and awards, politicians who are just plain politicians or generals and bureau chiefs who have their eye on promotions.

Marcia, let's go back and re-read the title of the Northwoods document (then the document itself)...what does it say? Justification for U.S. Military Intervention in Cuba. What are some of the "pretexts" to be used, what is supposed to enrage the American people enough to willingly go to war with Cuba, and why did we need to be enraged by deception in the first place? If the U.S. Military had any real justifications for an intervention in Cuba that the American people would have gone along with, then why did they feel the need to fake a Cuban terror campaign on American soil?

Why did the CIA (our government) feel it needed to fake a communist terror campaign in Iran?

Faking terrorist attacks and terror campaigns to manufacture public consent is not a new tactic to our government or governments in general and the facts, documents and history itself all bare witness to this. What's so over the top in telling the truth?

The idea that our government or any government would never resort to using deception and propaganda on their own people for the purpose of manufacturing public consent into favoring a war or intervention isn't based on facts and history. While it may make us feel better about our leaders for a time it just isn't based in reality. I'm sorry if this upsets you but we can't just deny all the facts and history that doesn't line up with what we'd prefer to think about ourselves and our leaders and be honest with ourselves at the same time.

I don't think anyone here ever said that governments never use deception or propaganda. They all do, including our own. But is a very long leap to accusing Bush of intentionally killing a couple thousand US citizens. You and the other conspiricy buffs continue to make that leap, totally ignoring that your 'questions' have been answered. You want to believe the worst
    and so you do.

Very well stated. Of course governments lie, including ours. That doesn't mean all the weird conspiracy theories are true.

Marcia wrote "A prominent theologian, who happens to be a Process Theologian (for more info on Process Theology, see Process Thread under Baptist Theology and Bible Study Forum), has just come out with a book saying the US planned the 9/11 attacks! I find it extremely disturbing -- no, beyond disturbing -- that a theologian would say this and that a Christian publisher would publish it."

This only proves that some theologians can also be nuts!

I can, now that some of the NEADS tapes have been released. Their reaction could only be so good as the intelligence they were given. Amongst other problems, the Air Force received faulty information from the FAA that had them chasing phantom aircraft.

Michael Bronner's new Vanity Fair article on the military's response to 9/11 makes for some interesting reading.

Really? How were my questions answered and by who? It seems to me that you and all the other coincidence buffs have to keep totally ignoring all the evidence that is contrary to what you want to believe and you have more to ignore everyday. The bottom line here is the search for the truth goes on, more people are waking up, the evidence keeps piling up and the 911 truth movement is becoming more mainstream everyday, we're making you and the government make more excuses all the time and they are really starting to look silly. Coincidence theorists are quickly becoming a thing of the past and we who want the truth and keep searching for it don't need your permssion or your help to continue. You'll either just fade away and become silent and go along with tyranny making excuses for it along the way as you have in the past or you'll join the growing numbers of people that are now awake and are willing to stand up to it. Makes no difference to me what you choose to do though I hope you will join us eventually but if you choose not to join us then in the end it makes no difference really if you were ever here at all.

I am not saying our government is always honest, but the 9/11 attacks were not fake. They were real. Real people died; real planes with people crashed.

    Yes.

What is a credible source for 50% of New Yorkers not believing that 2 planes flew into the World Trade Towers? Who took the poll and when? Where was it published?

Marcia, I never said 911 wasn't a real attack with real planes and real people. All I'm saying is that the "official story" is the real conspiracy theory. There are more holes in it than my pasta strainer, and contrary to what NiteSift would have us beileve there are many more questions than real answers. Look I know there are people out there that say things like those planes were holograms or whatever, thats crazy and I don't buy it.

False flag terrorism does't mean the attacks themselves are fake.

Most New Yorkers I've talked to believe planes flew into the buildings as do I. We just don't believe the official story.
