please excuse a question from a newbie [IMG] i'm not sure where i should ask this, but i thought this is probably the best. sorry if i should be posting this elsewhere.

anyway, i've noticed these "baptist only" forums (how observant of me eh? [IMG] ) and i'm wondering, what makes one eligible to post here? i ask because i've been reading many topics and i'd very much like to contribute to the discussion but i really don't know what's considered baptist enough to post here. (to be honest it seems silly to me, but i do want to respect the forums rules) is it your personal beliefs? church you attend? family background? something else? just wondering [IMG] again, i apologize if i posted this in the wrong place.

Hi, and welcome to the baptistboard.

The areas designated for Baptists only is limited to those who list themselves as being a Baptist regardless of their Baptistic stripe.

You currently list yourself as Christian and do not show a Baptist Church for attendance. This means that you do not qualify, under regulations, to post under Baptist only forums. There are other areas for non-Baptist postings.

I trust this is clear for you.

    Cheers, and God bless,

    Jim

The question: Are you a Baptist? The name "Christian" is too generic. We are restricting "baptistic" topics to Baptists to keep the debates within the Baptist family. There are other forums for all denominations to join in.

If yoiu are a Baptist, but attend a different church at the moment, that is acceptable. I am a retired Baptist minister, but currently attend an Anglican Church (no Baptist Church in my immediate area) and I qualify.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Wonder if there will be any "Baptist only" areas in heaven?

Nope...cause Heaven will be filled with Baptists.

Russ, I understand your dig; but the Baptist Board ain't heaven, and doesn't profess to be. Because it's not, the moderators and web site administrator felt the need to define some areas in order to give some structure. For instance, visit any other message board system, and you'll find all types of Christians posting anywhere and with anything.

However, in order to discuss certain baptistic beliefs and teachings, it's necessary to delineate an area where only Baptists can discuss those things without encroachment by those that believe differently. The result? The opportunity to be strengthened in the biblical doctrines that set Baptists apart from others, or the opportunity to determine that you don't believe the Bible supports those beliefs, allowing you to search out another way.

But allowing any and all comers into those discussions doesn't help either case, because the introduction of different doctrinal beliefs clouds the discussion of Baptist doctrines and teachings.

If that hurts your feelings, so be it. The analogy is that I don't come into your house and immediately start looking through your bedroom; the Baptist Board seems to work on the same principle.

well, i do not consider myself to be completely aligned with any denomination, but if i had to pick one, it wouldn't be baptist, so i shall be gone in a minute ;) but before i make my graceful exit from this forum, my inquisitive nature still has a few more questions.

what exactly are baptist doctrines? are there any that are espoused by all baptists? don's post seems to suggests that the answer is no, but at the same time it's confusing; you say that you want to discuss them without those who disagree, so that people can decide if they disagree. and i have noticed plenty of disagreement reading through these forums ;) are there people of other denominations who hold "baptist" beliefs? and is there a place for non-baptists to discuss these baptist doctrines? if i feel that a piece of "news pertaining to baptists" also pertains to me, is it appropriate to start another topic about it in a forum where i can post?

well that was more than a few; sorry about that. anyway..... signing off.

For those who may care, this forum is for breaking news concerning Baptists. It is not the Current Events or Politics Forum. Nor is it the Theology Forum. That is the reason for the Three Page Rule on this forum. Anymore than that is better handled on the Forums listed above. Think CNN Headline News not a multi hour documentary like Victory at Sea.

And yes this forum is for "Baptists" only. There are many other places on the web for inter/non-denominational discussions [IMG] . This just isn't one of them.
