No,you don't have to rub your eyes.I ran a thread a short time ago with a different conclusion.I'm not sure at this point if I want to devote my limited energy on other books of the Bible for this exercise. But for now we'll go to the book of Jeremiah.

    H = HCSB;T = TNIV

    6:14
H : They have treated My people's brokenness superficially.
T : They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious.

    6:15
H : They can no longer feel humiliation.
T : they do not even know how to blush.
[ Most versions render it the same as the TNIV.The word humilation captures the idea somewhat -- but using the word "blush" is more effective.]

    10:14
    H : carved image
T : idols (Same as NET)
[ Isn't the TNIV wording simple?]

    9:18
    H : raise a lament
    T : wail
[ Isn't the HCSB's wording kind of ancient?]

    12:14
    H : bequeathed
    T : gave
[What was I saying about simplicity?]

    13:4 (See also verses 7,10,11)
H : Take the underwear that you bought and are wearing
T : Take the belt you bought and are wearing around your waist
[ The NET Bible has "shorts"]

    13:17
H : my innermost being will weep in secret
    T : I will weep in secret
[ NET Bible : I will weep alone.]

    13:18
    H : Take a humble seat
T : Come down from your thrones
    NET : Surrender your thrones

    13:23
H : who are instructed in evil
T : who are accustomed to doing evil ( same as NET)

We're In The Book Of Jeremiah

    14:12
H : their cry of despair
    T : their cry

    16:7
    H : A cup of consolation won't be given
T : No one will offer food to comfort
[Isn't the HCSB's wording sort of ancient?]

    16:18
H : detestable and abhorrent idols
    T : detestable idols
    NET : disgusting idols
[Have you been noticing how the HCSB elaborates more than the TNIV?]

    16:21
    H : inform them
    T : teach them

    17:9
    H : desperately sick
    T : beyond cure
    NET : incurably bad
    Heb. it is incurable

    17:11
H : In the middle of his days
T : when their lives are half gone

    17:23 (See also 19:15)
    H : obstinate
T : stiffnecked (NET almost the same)
Heb. they made stiff their necks

    18:19
H : Pay attention to me (Same as NET)
    T : Listen to me
[ I think the rendering of the HCSB and NET Bible sounds too weak and 21st century-like.]

    19:3
H : everyone who hears about it will shutter
T : the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle
    NET : ears will ring

    19:6
    H : Therefore,take note!
    T : So beware
[ Okay, so you're going to berate me for preferring "beware",when "take note" sounds so laughable?]

    19:13
    H : whole heavenly host
T : all the starry hosts
[ The HCSB's wording may confuse some readers into thinking angels are being referenced.]

    Still In Jeremiah

    22:20
    H : all your lovers
    T : all your allies
[The HCSB's wording corresponds to the Hebrew;but conveys silliness.]

    22:21
H : you have never listened to Me
T : you have not obeyed me
[ The former wording sounds like a frustrated housewife.]

    22:25
    H : In fact,I will
    T : I will
[ There's the CSB being unnecessarily wordy.]

    22:29
    h : Earth,earth,earth
    T : O land,land,land
NET : O land of Judah, land of Judah, land of Judah

    23:30
    H : Therefore,take note!
    T : Therefore
    [Here we go again.See 19:6]
