"For a lot of our members, it's really difficult to have them come out, either because of parking or something else," explains Vincente Garcia, a union representative who is supervising the picketing.

So instead, the union hires unemployed people at the minimum wage—$8.25 an hour—to walk picket lines

    So the union hires SCABS?

This sounds like it could be a Saturday Night Live skit.

This is too funny. I think you should have put it in the humor forum!

Didn't know there was a picketer's union. They can't hire from a union that doesn't exist. Maybe a BaptistBoard member in the DC area would like to do their civic and Christian duty to assist them in organizing.

OK, I'm confused. So does the union then hire union goons to rough up the non-union folks who are picketing for the union people?

The "union bible" must leave out the "thou shalt not covet" command...

The Baptist Bible added "All I want is my fair share and a little bit of yours?"

The issue is that there is no local for picketers and no union picketers for anyone to hire.

Why are non-union workers doing a union worker's job?

    Your dodge is transparent.

    WOW!!!!!!
Guess the picketers can find parking places that the union members can't, huh?
Or maybe the members figure that this is a good expenditure of their union funds so they won't even have to show up??? (They also get out of carrying those old heavy signs and all that walking!!??)

Kinda hard to figure that if these members are serious about this, that they would at least have the decency to hire some bona-fide union members (of SOME union) to keep the vigil, rather than go "outside" for help

Maybe the rank & file aren't as radical as the gesta--- er-a-a- leaders!

Apparently you scabs don't understand the basis of union organization. (Traditionally) The AFofL organizes on the basis of a trade or skill like plumber or carpenter.. There is no union for the trade of picketing. The CIO organizes all the employees of one shop or factory on the basis of all being employed by the same company.

    http://www.hireahelper.com/day-labor/washington_dc/

Day labor companies. None of them seem to be unionized. If there are no unionized picketers in DC then no one can hire unionized picketers in DC. I thought that right wing baptists were big on deductive logic.

A logical union for day workers is the SEIU
    http://www.seiu.org/

Some interested Baptist in that area could contact SEIU and

    DC Jobs with Justice at

    http://www.dcjwj.org/node/334

and volunteer to be an organizer.

When outsiders don't care, people can organize on their own as the United Farm Workers did. See

    http://www.ufw.org/

It took a long campaign to get any justice for farm workers. see
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Farm_Workers

    Note

    >The union publicly adopted the principles of non-violence championed by Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Doesn't it make sense for the person with the grievance to walk their own picket line? You'd think the union members would be interested enough to show up for their own strike.

Let's start by having the striking union members charter a bus from a union shop to shuttle them to the strike site? That would take care of the parking problem and benefit the union shop with the bus service.

Any way you try to slice it, this is a slap to the intrinsic lack of integrity in the modern union!

Just like so many state "boards", they have essentially outlived their usefulness and have become more self-perpetuating than member serving!

Same as DHEC, EPA, DOE, etc, etc, etc on the federal level.:BangHead:
