Examines the various conspiracy theories espoused on the Internet, in articles and in public forums that attempt to explain the 9/11 attacks. It includes theories that the World Trade Center was brought down by a controlled demolition; that a missile, not a commercial airliner, hit the Pentagon; and that members of the U.S. government orchestrated the attacks in hopes of creating a war in the Middle East. Each conspiracy argument is countered by a variety of experts in the fields of engineering, intelligence and the military. The program also delves into the anatomy of such conspiracies and how they grow on the Internet.

History Channel, Popular Mechanics, NBC & Hearst Publishing team up for smear job as conflicts of interest run rife.

An upcoming documentary entitled The 9/11 Conspiracies, to be aired on the History Channel, may represent the biggest hit piece to date on the 9/11 truth movement and is rife with bias, cronyism and conflicts of interest.

The so-called documentary promises not to look at the flaws in the official story from a neutral perspective but to start out by suggesting that any deviation from the official line is "outrageous".

The program also features so called independent "experts" who are actually in the employ of the program makers themselves who in turn rely on scores of multi-million dollar contracts with the government and the military-industrial complex.

The program, scheduled for Sunday, August 12 at 8:00 PM and Monday, August 13 at 12:00 AM, will feature Alex Jones, the Loose Change crew and other 9/11 researchers such as Professor Steven Jones and Webster Tarpley.

One may therefore be forgiven for thinking the piece could allow for a fair representation of the 9/11 truth movement. However, a short blurb on the History Channel's website sets a rather familiar one sided tone (click for screenshot).
An Internet search for "9/11 conspiracy theories" yields nearly two million hits. Were the attacks on 9/11 perpetrated by the Bush Administration to advance its own interests? Could a government missile have hit the Pentagon? As outrageous as these ideas may sound, many people believe them. Why do these theories arise in the first place? An interview with James Meigs, Editor-in-Chief of Popular Mechanics, who refutes many of these theories. Watch as experts in the fields of aeronautics, engineering and the military put these theories to the test.
This suggests that we should be prepared for more pseudo psychology as "experts" condescendingly explain why people turn to "conspiracy theories" for comfortable simple explanations of complicated world events. Maybe the History Channel will even seek the expert analysis of the former director of the X-files just as the BBC did in their own 9/11 hit piece which was broadcast earlier this year and received a great deal of criticism for its reliance on emotional bias and avoidance of the core issues.

In the same vein as the BBC piece, the new documentary will once again feature James Meigs, Editor-in-Chief of Popular Mechanics, who is neither an expert on 9/11 research nor on engineering, but rather is an expert on yellow journalism and shilling for the Bush Administration.

Meigs has an illustrious pedigree that puts him right up there with the professors and scholars that have studied 9/11 and the architects who designed the WTC - we just can't decide which title to give prominence, his position on the editorial staff of that bastion of scientific empiricism Entertainment Weekly or the equally respected Video Review.

Meigs has flatly refused to debate 9/11 questions with either Alex Jones or the Loose Change producers and will now only appear unopposed.

Popular Mechanics is owned by Hearst Publishing. As fictionalized in Orson Welles' acclaimed film Citizen Kane, William Randolph Hearst (pictured below) wrote the book on cronyism and yellow journalism and Popular Mechanics hasn't bucked that tradition.

    SOURCE

Seen this one coming from along way off. I think it will most likely backfire on them like the BBC documentary backfired on it.

I've been wanting to record this, thanks for the reminder.

Actually poncho, your post is the smear job.

If the show employs those tacticts, I'll not watch.

You'll watch it alright for no other reason than you're running out of ammo to smear us mere morons with. Then we'll just sit back and pick it all apart like we have with all the other hit pieces the military industrial complex has come out with.

Also, I don't think you should bring anger from another thread into a new one. You started the nastiness on this one, herr poncho. You started with the name-calling. It's entertaining, yet it prevents you from being taken seriously, something I know you want so very badly to happen.

Guess I was being too nit picky this time, tell ya what you can call us "truthers" any unsavory name you want brother and I'll defend your right to do it...how's that sound? Just so long as you remain as unbiased and open minded as usual.

Anger? I was shooting for humor.

Nastiness? Not really, sarcastic okay, nasty? Ain't got it in me.

Where? When? What name did I call you?

    Pppppppppptttttttttttt!

Oh man, now look what you made me do, I spit my coffee all over my PC! :D

I couldn't care less about being taken seriously right now. I reckon that'll all come about when the MSM finally catches up with all the information I've been scooping them on for the last few years.

Every dog has his day. I can wait, ain't in no hurry.

Yup. Anyone who acts like that guy, is a moron. Perhaps you feel violating personal space, yelling like you just ran out of thorazine, and not giving anyone a chance to answer the question you just bellowed to be rational discussion traits, but few others do.

Stop it yer killin me.

I've asked so many questions here that never get answered I don't expect them to be answered. As for the rest of yer post I don't know what yer talkin about. I can see that you don't care for yer tactics being used on you though.

And congratulations on being elected to speak for others. It must be a real rush.

Now I do have a question (don't expect an answer though ) can I keep steering this discussion away from the topic long enough to take up the whole ten pages like I've seen some people who will remain nameless do so many times? Don't know, stay tuned in to see iffin I can do it.

As for the rest of yer post I don't know what yer talkin about.

And that's why you shouldn't have thrown the moron thing out. Best to let things that have been reasoned out alone. Rufus and I allready went thru that, I haven't re-used the term, so you bringing it up again kinda sucks.

That has never been a tactic of mine.

Wait a minute I kinda remember that now.

Hmmm, I seem to remember you reserving the "right" to call people names so long as they deserve it when that was all "reasoned out".

    .

    Coulda fooled me.

Poncho, you are one sick pup. You thrive on conspiracy theories and wouldnt believe the truth if it bit you on the backside. I am writing this as I watch the program and after watching this and you still believe in the "insided job" theory, there is no hope for you and it scares me that there are nit-wits in our government who believe this nonsense. You need medication my friend.

OK, so first you expose how paranoid you are by ranting against a show that hadn't even been seen yet. Kinda like tactics you accuse the government of doing.

Second, the show is turning out to be pretty good, I'm kinda busy recording some dobro tracks, but what I've seen is great. I'll have to catch one of the reruns.

Third, as far as the truther moron thing, I'm sorry I said it. That moron just happened to be a truther, and that's how it should have been worded.

Fourth, no, I don't purposefully filibuster threads, and really resent the accusation. But since that's what you think, perhaps we just should never talk, eh ?

    Person #2: "Did not!"

    Person #1: "Did!"

    Person #2: "Did not!"

    Person #1: "Did, too!"

    Person #2: "Didn't neither!"

Person #3: "Uh, 'scuse me, just a second! What are you two arguing about???"

Person #1 and Person #2, in unison: "Ain't it obvious?? And why are you sticking your nose into this, in the first place?? Listen and maybe you'll learn something!!"

Person #1: "Now, let's see - where was I?" Oh yeah!! - Did not!"

    Person #2: "Did, so!"

I'd kinda like to see a point by point rebuttal of this show by the truthers. The History Channel sure did a good job in the segments I saw, showing that the people who ignore the facts, manufacture evidence, ignore evidence, and demonize the other side are the conspiracy theorists. And the last segment I saw, on building 7, and the way the truthers are now changing their tactics, was pretty convincing.

OTOH, there are entities that I would rather have on my side more than the history channel. That's why I want to see a well thought out rebuttal, anyone know where I can get one ?

It's slightly ironic how conspiracy theorists have decided to annoint themselves as "truthers", when nothing could be further from the truth.

The "truth", as shown by THC, is terribly hard to rebut. The only possible rebuttal is more "theory".

    'Round and 'round we go.:BangHead:

I'm guessing by the way the original post was attacked, that more than a few folks had a rough nite.

    It's just a T.V. show.

It didn't change my mind about anything. It affirmed what I allready thought.

Mark Dice pleads poverty and might have to get a real job, Korey Rowe has gone missing after being arrested for desertion, Dylan Avery is reduced to begging for change from supporters, Alex Jones is on the edge of going postal, Kevin Ryan has lost his lawsuit, and now Jimmy Walter, the rich heir who was humiliated by Penn & Teller has given up the fight entirely.
