    Back to the basic doctrines!

My church is just starting an extended study of the basic doctrines using Paul Little's book, Know What You Believe.

We had a young mad come this youth day and did a good job on the subject, "The Sin's of Shacking Up". He had 4 solid points and he made a good case for doing things the biblical way and why the biblical way is best.

Jesus' focus was on the kingdom of God, not the five points of calvinism.

Jesus tells us why he was sent:

He wasn't sent to preach the five points of calvinism.

He was sent to preach the good news of the kingdom of God.

Not to start a debate over true PC, but fundamental PC churches don't get "drunk on the spirit, slain in the spirit, or dancing in the spirit" If anything they are the biggest protesters against such things in the church today. When people think of PC, they think of these things.

If the Spirit stills moves, which I am not sure why you put that in quotes, because He still moves (literally), then who is to say He doesn't move in the same manner. I believe God still heals people, whether you put your hands on them or not, or annoint their head with oil, but why not do these things? What about speaking in tongues?

I think the PC church has gotten a bad rep because of the more charasmatic group, running around and barking like a dog, that's is a spirit alright, just not the One who moves through me.

I hope that was interspersed with other topics and books because that does not sound like a spiritually healthy approach if that was all that was taught in those 3.5 years.

Thanks. That makes more sense. Can I assume that most of your congregation goes to two or three services a week?

There are three preaching services each week----------it just depends on how you define the word "most"(in your post comment above) as to who attends all three each week:laugh:  PS-----the preacher is included in the definition of your word, "most"

Preachers will NOT preach on subjects the IRS deems OFF LIMITS. The IRS list continually grows too. The IRS does have control over 501(3)(c) "churches" so whatever subject matter the IRS interprets as "non-compliant" to IR code can, does and WILL be "off limits". Since so many messages are on the interent, God haters can "tip off" the IRS and the churches will then get a notice to cease and desist such messages or be in danger of having their tax exempt status REVOKED. If I were a betting man, most jelly-spined "men o gawd" will comply. They will claim -"I can still preach salavation" How can you, if you can't call a sinner a sinner and JESUS is the ONLY way of salvation? Here's the list that is "off limits":

    - ANYTHING political, even if the preacher says how HE will vote in ANY election. "Do NOT mention politics" is the advise from the CLA
    - Encouraging members from the pulpit or in printed church material to get politically involved with "Christian causes"

RIGHT NOW churches can get in the IRS cross hairs and hot water if the IRS gets proof (generally an interent link / message) with subject matters like this:

    - Condemning government funded abortion
    - Calling sodomy a SIN
    - Calling same sex marriage A SIN
    - Calling ISLAM a false religion and followers are doomed to hell.
    - Calling out the SINS of public servents / political leaders (like the prophets of old did)

Churches WILL NOT touch on ANY subject matter the IRS says can jeopordize thier precious tax exempt status under IRC 501(c)(3). For many churches, they comply with anything the IRS / Government tells them. If a church stands on the Bible and suffers persecution today, IFBxers call them wackos, yet the ones in the past that did it, they are deemed hero's (John Bunyon for example)

Um....several things you've mentioned have been covered multiple times in our church, and quite honestly, most other churches I know around my neck of the woods.

These are easy to preach on...
But how many times have you heard a sermon on Christians struggling with the sin of Homosexuality, and how the church needs to help them throught accountability...

Or how many times have you heard a sermon that calls for the congregants to reach out to their Muslim neighbors and show them the love of Christ.

Or how we should pray for our elected leaders no matter the political party.

It is easy to preach to the choir, but when you start preaching the gospel to those that want to say, "to hell with those not like me" it gets harder...

You can preach, 'abortionists are going to Hell.. along with Sodomites" and the congregation will shake your hand and say, "What a great sermon"..

But when you preach that we need to witness to the woman who just had an abortion and tell her there is forgiveness... or preach that we need to go visit the homosexual that lives down the street... well, people will snub you on the way out of church...

I see this verse being played out in my previous post...
    2 Timothy 4:3
    (3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

Church people want to come to church today so the preacher can condemn everyone but them... then they walk out feeling good that they are not an abortionist, sodomite, gambler....

But the preacher won't preach on Gossip even though a little old lady spends her week on the phone gossipping about the sodomite down the road, or the 17 yr old daughter of a member getting pregnant...

So they think its not a big deal to gossip.. although one of the 10 commandments is "thou shalt not bear false witness" (which has more to do with slander and gossip than telling a lie, BTW)

Or since the preacher won't preach that you should forgive your neighbor that you are holding a grudge against, and until you do, God will not hear you... NO they won't preach that... because 75% of today's local church is holding grudges against people outside the church...

So they walk out of church into the world of unforgiveness for another week.

Anyway, that's my take on it.. take it or leave it.

VERY GOOD points indeed. But the OP was topics that aren't touched on from the pulpit and my point being if the IRS says NO you can't preach on that, churches say "OK".

BUT I will say, your points are indeed spot on.

    To rbell,

SEVERAL have been coverred, but not ALL the points. If they were and the IRS found out, you have been fore warned. Small churches not on the interent or non 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations are really not in any danger from the IRS.

IFBmole, you have a valid point. In fact, our pastor preached on this very thing one Sunday. He said we had better prepare ourselves to see our pastor being dragged out the door for preaching such things, because he will not stop even if he is arrested. :applause:

And it is becoming more and more a possibility as the world sinks into sin.
