He's not baptist, and I'm not dispensationalist, but I have used his topical reference book for years

The only one I've read was his devotional Renewed Day by Day, thought it was very good.

    CDGriffin,
I have about 12 of his books. I think he is great. The CMA gave us something great with him. He makes one think when you read his work.
"The Knowledge of the Holy" and "The Attributes of God Volume one and Two"

I knew A.W. Tozer when he was pastor of the Avenue Road Alliance Church in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. When we had opportunity, a number of us Baptist preachers went to hear Tozer. He was not a dynamic speaker. He came to the platform in a ruffled suit, in great need of a press. Once he began to speak everyone listened.

It was not long after, Dr. Tozer was found kneeling beside his study chair. He had gone on to meet his Lord in his usual posture,,,,,all night prayer. We learned this from his wife, that it was common for him to pray all night before a preaching engagement.

Lord, give me the ruffled suit of Tozer, yea, give me the reason for that ruffled suit. You can do no wrong reading Tozer.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Tozer is one of my all-time favorites. [IMG]

  7. Tentmaker, you should try to get some more if you can. I heard one preacher say about Tozer's "Pursuit of God" book "he wrote it on his knees". Which is a great review especially from this preacher. The "Tozer Pulpit" volumes are great and and come in two volumes.
That is amazing Bro. Jim. I am young and often hear stories of great preachers like him. I hope God gives us some more.
I have only so many of his books, need to get more.
I know he is not Baptist and we may disagree with him on some things but for the whole he makes the reader think and imparts some truth. We should not throw the good out with the bad.

I must say Tozer is one of my all time favorites and God really used "The Purusit of God" to really get my life back on track and in line with him. I wholeheartedly recommend A.W. Tozer. Sad to say I've only read "The Pursuit of God" and "The Knowledge of the Holy" yet both books are excellent, scripture filled volumes. A great man that was definitely in touch with our Lord.

    In Christ,
    Bob

I found a couple of Tozer's books in my bookcase the other day, ( i tend to forget just what books i have ). They are "The Knowledge of the Holy" and "Who Put Jesus On The Cross". I will see if i can find time to read them during the Easter break, but i will be about a month away from exams then, so i may have to wait for the summer break. Has anyone else read these? And what did you think of them?

    Blessings

That is interesting, thank you. I didn't know his sermons were available also. I know hardly anything about him, i only recognised the name, because it is so unusual and he has been quoted once or twice during sermons in church. nfortunately, now is not the time to digress from my studies...too much to do already.

    Blessings

    Jim, That is great!!!
Are we talking, and telling others our view to much today to listen?
As I've said before, I get so much out of his books.

A.W.Tozer's quotes are great like the following,
"Heresy is not so much rejecting as selecting. The heretic simply selects the parts of the Scripture he wants to emphasize and lets the rest go." and another,
"It is always bad to blame anyone or anything for our spiritual or moral failures. God has so ordered things that His children may grow as successfully in the middle of the desert as in the most fruitful land."
