Tracking Bible Sales

I don't know if they still do, but it seems to me for a while they were passing out NIV's.I remember that from my traveling days where I spent a lot of time in motel and hotels.

 

We Gideons give out KJV and NKJV in English speaking countries. It is my understanding that the NKJV is used by us Gideons in most English speaking Countries outside of the USA.

We operate in 183 countries and distribute Word of God in over 80 languages. The Spanish version we use is SRV (1960), the same one that is on the CBA's top ten at # 7.

BTY:
Does the CBA stand for Christian Booksellers Association or Christian Booksellers of America? If it stands for the latter, then it is sad thath the NASB and ESV arte being outsold by a foreign language version.

-As a Gideon I use the KJV or NKJV.
-As a Spanish Student I use the SRV (1960).
-As a Reformed Calvinistic Baptist I use the ESV.
-As a Bible Student I use the NASB.
-As a high school teacher and leader of a teen bible study group I use the NIV.
-As the son of a RC mother I use the NAB.
-As a Christian I use the Holy Spirit to illuminate the scriptures for me.

It doesn't matter what the stats are. Use the version you like, and Praise God that we have so many from which to choose. HOW BLESSED WE ARE!

I agree the TCass in that these stats don't have much value.

Any better stats out there for what translations/paraphrases are most popular?

My guess for English translations in North America would look something like:

NIV
KJV

NKJV
NRSV
NAB
The Message
NLT

HCSB
NASB
ESV
NWT
CEV
TNIV

In Europe the NJB (New Jersalem Bible) would be somewhere on the list.

In the world with all languages included, the Latin Vulgate and the RV1960 (Reina-Valera 1960) would probably be found there.

Any other thoughts?

 

Remember that this is statistical data from ONE MONTH - January 2006.

The latest numbers I read still has the NIV as #1 overall. NKJV as #2, KJV #3. The NASB and ESV are struggling to stay in the top 7 or 8 unfortunately. B and H is doing all it can to drive up sales of the HCSB.

 

Was a little surprized at the NKJV being #1, but I guess that isn't that big of a shocker. I kinda expected the NIV to be #1, followed by KJV, and then maybe NKJV, and NASB.

I was more surprized at how well the Holman CSB is doing. And that the NASB is beaten out by The Message and the HCSB.

 

The April version is out, using Febuary's stats!
