Is TRACS accreditation a good enough standard?

I ask because their site sounded really good. But, some of the schools they have under review sound less admirable.

oxford grad school dot com . . . they seem to claim that they are accredited by TRACS, but TRACS says they are not, yet.

Any ideas which version of the story is more accurate?

"how good" is determined by "good enuff for what."

it's good enuff for the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education and the Council of Higher Education Accreditation, n therefore for any body that looks to these 2 places for accreditation.

of course, it's possible to manipulate one's way into obtaining accreditation, but if it's good enuff for the company/school u're applying for, for instance, accred by TRACS will do the job.

I have more than a passing knowledge of some of the schools in TRACS and the schools I know of are academically sound. I think TRACS is a good thing because it makes the schools in it accountable to someone other than themselves for their academic standards. Goodness knows there are schools out there that declare themselves to be academically credible, but are not!

I have no problem recommending a school that is fully accredited by TRACS.

With regard to Oxford Grad School, if you'll carefully read the statement on their website

    www.oxnetedu.org

you will notice that it says that they are in a Candidate status with TRACS. This can be verified by going to TRACS's website ( www.tracs.org ) and comparing the listings under Accredited Institutions and those in the Candidate Institutions (Ox Grad School is in this group).

Normally this means that they are not yet fully accredited by TRACS but are on the way to becoming fully accredited.

I just did not like the manner in which they seemed to represent that they were already accredited . . . I would have been more comfortable with a lot less marketing hype.
