If your fork is antichrist and you stick your fork in your eye, and route it through your brain so that it influences your worldview, then the fork should be melted down and turned into a spoon.

I know of a denomination (they think they aren't a denomination)
that eschews computers as antichrist. Needless to say, their impact
    on the internet is zilch.

Praise God for their discernment. Please educate me on how television is proChrist.

I know of a whole bunch of denominations (who are actually denominations) who think evil communications are fiiine.

Perhaps they are wrong or perhaps the people they're trying to impact are stiff-necked?

There is nothing wrong with watching tv. I watch tv, however, I mainly watch dvds of old shows (I Love Lucy, etc) and I also watch dvds of Monk. I don't like many of the new shows. I also spend some time watching MSNBC and the Food network. I spend more time reading then I do watching tv on any given day. I have my favorite shows but, beyond that, I don't spend much time watching tv.

My choice of translation(s) is based on textual study and not on anything I see on tv. The poll in the OP is silly and, I am afraid, an example of someone trying to prove something. However the OP author must keep in mind that there is nothing scientific about the poll.

    1 Corinthians 15:33 (Geneva Bible, 1587 Edition):
    Be not deceiued:
    euill speakings corrupt good maners.

    1 Corinthians 15:33 (HCSB = Christian Standard Bible /Holman, 2003/ :
    Do not be deceived:
    Bad company corrupts good morals.

This is a very good example of someone using the
wrong meaning of a scripture to 'prove their point'.
The meaning of the Geneva Bible in 1587 is the
same as the meaning of the HCSB in 2003.
In 1587 (and probably even until about 1850)
the Geneva Bible was a better translation than
the HCSB (which didn't exist); in 2007 the
HCSB is a better translation than the Geneva
Bible. (Is anybody going to be calling me
    anti-Geneve Bible for saying this?).

    what imagery!!
If you stick a fork in your eye, and route it to your brain, you have a more serious problem that will not be solved by turning the fork into a spoon.

Seriously, we all have a choice of what to watch. If you don't like it, turn the channel, or turn it off.

My TV stays mostly on TVland, or Nick at nite, or kid shows..
then I watch news, get mad, and turn it off.

    BTW, BB is addictive!

BTW...I'm perfectly OK with a computer. I'm running Windows 1769.

I would run Windows 1611, but I could never log in. My username has a "v" in it, and Windows 1611 doesn't support that letter.

    You guys are killing me.

I love how you can take a group of different verses - from different contexts and put them together to work for whatever agenda you're wanting to go to.

    LOL - about the Windows!!

The problem is when you see something you shouldn't have and then must turn the channel because of what you just saw.

you should learn to get over the cartoon influence of your childhood and pray about what you see on the news.

The news media is pretty much akin to the soothsayers, astrologers, andwizards of yester-year.
Nope, it is a medium to see where the church has fallen into much worldliness. If I were addicted to BB as you seem to be, then I would have to ask the Lord to forgive me and REPENT.

There are those addicted to BB, but that is easily seen by the many posts and how often they frequent the "bar".

I think you paint with too broad a brush by insinuating everyone who posts a lot or often are "addicted" to the BB.

Hmm - I know a number of pagans online who don't have a TV in their house either. Maybe they're more Godly than me! Hmmm - have to think about that one!

The problem is not always what you saw but what your mind did with what you saw. How did you process what you saw? Were you horrified or repulsed by it? Were you enlightened or educated by it? Were you blessed by it?

True, right here on BB one can see the depths to which certain folks will sink to promote their beliefs "in the name of God."

A more accurate guage than the number of posts is actually what is in the posts. There are those who continually promote error. Their addiction is likely not to BB itself, but to the pure enjoyment they feel when they stir up strife with their continued promotion of eror.

It's a good example of a potpourri Bible position. You can disagree with me on anything I say as you can just pick and choose which Bible you want to believe in depending on the circumstances.

If you want to go with "bad company" so be it, one who watches television is keeping "bad company" with the television idols they are associating with and letting into their minds. Whether you want to call it bad company or evil communications the end result is the same, either your good morals or your good manners are being corrupted.

"Intimacy with the profligate society around was apt to corrupt the principles of the Corinthians." - Jamieson, Fausset & Brown

How do 21st century Christians in America most interact with the folks of society that have abandoned themselves to vice? I submit that one of the primary ways is through television.

I agree that this is a serious, pervasive problem throughout Christianity and within Christian leadership.

Let's take this conversation to the television then. I'll meet you on channel 7.

This thread has nothing to do with Bible versions or translations, and I wouldn't know where to put it - so I am taking the easy way out and closing it.
