As I noted before I can tolerate the new advertisments we find popping up on the Baptistboard since ownership changed.

I understand that I can minimize the ads I see by signing in.

I am deeply troubled that the ad placements are being put within posts.

After reading a post by a modeartor (Philip) where he mentioned the Catholic Church I noted that there was a hyperlink to a Catholic web site, later in the same post I noted a link to a Catholic singles dating service.

    This is not proper!
My posts will not be used to encourage other readers to go to a catholic web site.
I personally can"t tolerate that and may consider leaving the BaptistBoard.

    I have had similar problems.
Someone posted about mixed swimming and so swim wear ads came up linking to not so good sites.

They are Google ads so whatever you are talking about, something will come up.

I too have seen Catholic ads, I think I even saw Wicca ads once.

That is the problem with Googls ads on a Christian Board.

Of course each of these have popped up in our post above too.

One only need log off to see them.

    It's called IN-TEXT ADVERTISING [LINK]

Mormon ads, Wicca ads, Catholic ads, Jehovah witness ads, can we list any other content that each of us advertise when we innocently post on this board.

    Troubling, :tear:

    Singles Dating
    Vbulletin Skins
    Catholic Classifieds
    Catholic Dates
    Catholic Matches

That is what I got looking at this page. :(

I am happy to say that most ads that come up with my posts are things that advertize inerrancy, reformed theology, and things that are found in the Word of God. :)

I noticed when someone mentioned my pirate, that several pirate links appeared. I know some links pay google to advertise and market their product this way. Not sure why we get it here under the new format.

    Hello All,

I want to first of all apologize for any inappropriate ads you have seen while uising the Baptist Board. Indeed our ads are served contextually, so if a discussion on Catholicism takes place you will see ads that target the word Catholic. We are working on a system that will allow you to report any inappropriate ads to us so we can then block them from our site.

The new ad setup is currently being tested out and we will be making more changes to the ad format.

The cost of running the Baptist Board is not small and we use these ads to help defray the cost of keeping the Board running. We are committed to making the browsing experience more enjoyable for you the member. This why we are showing more integrated ads to the casual visitor, hoping that they choose to become a member.

    Also
BTW, The BB had been using Google Ads since before we acquired it from the original owner.

Feel free to PM me with any further questions you may have.

I'm all for defraying costs that help to keep BB up and running.

I followed the links to a mystic femnism site once. Very eyeopening what others are involved with.

Just as a couple of thoughts. It is good to know what the world is looking at. I am frequently amazed at how naive I am. I do realize that not every one is as sheltered as I am :tongue3: . Would it be possible to use some of the ads we see as an opportunity for prayer? Certainly many people looking at the places that Rob mentioned are seeking. If we pray for the people looking at the sites we see advertised, perhaps they'll look for the truth instead of an imitation of the truth. Just thinking outloud. . .

This is why I love my Firefox.

Between NoScript, AdBlock, and FlashBlock, I don't see any of them.

On the old format, we reported the URL to webmaster (there is a thread for this in the mod forum) and he banned them.

The Google ads generate no money if they're not clicked on. They used to pay the BB 10¢ per click.

We are working on an automated reporting feature which will allow you, the user to quickly and instantly report unwanted ads.

Also, just a word of caution: Though we recieve a small portion of money whenever a user clicks on an ad, do not click the ads unless you are genuinely interested in the Ad. We have had users just click on ads thinking that it helps us, when in reality it is fraudulent to do so.

Thanks for your patience in this matter. If you will notice we have made changes to the way the ads are placed if you are not logged.

Frankly, I think they are just like adverts on the telly. As adults we can ignore them, and they do no harm.

    Cheers,

    Jim
