AAAAAAAMEN!! Try Answering These From Your NIV

By Rex L. Cobb INSTRUCTIONS:
Using the New International Version Bible, answer the following questions to this NIV quiz.
Do not rely on your memory. As the Bible is the final authority, you must take the answer from the Bible verse (not from footnotes but from the text).
1. Fill in the missing words in Matthew 5:44. "Love your enemies,__________ them that curse you, ______________ to them that hate you, and pray for them that __________ and persecute you."
2. According to Matthew 17:21, what two things are required to cast out this type of demon?
3. According to Matthew 18:11, why did Jesus come to earth?
4. According to Matthew 27:2, what was Pilate's first name?
5. In Matthew 27:35, when the wicked soldiers parted His garments, they were fulfilling the words of the prophet. Copy what the prophet said in Matthew 27:35 from the NIV.
6. In Mark 3:15, Jesus gave the apostles power to cast out demons and to: ____________
7. According to Mark 7:16, what does a man need to be able to hear?
8. According to Luke 7:28, what was John? (teacher, prophet, carpenter, etc.). What is his title or last name?
9. In Luke 9:55, what did the disciples not know?
10. In Luke 9:56, what did the Son of man not come to do? According to this verse, what did He come to do?
11. In Luke 22:14, how many apostles were with Jesus?
12. According to Luke 23:38, in what three languages was the superscription written?
13. In Luke 24:42, what did they give Jesus to eat with His fish?
14. John 3:13 is a very important verse, proving the deity of Christ. According to this verse (as Jesus spoke), where is the Son of man?
15. What happened each year as told in John 5:4?
16. In John 7:50, what time of day did Nicodemus come to Jesus?
17. In Acts 8:37, what is the one requirement for baptism?
18. What did Saul ask Jesus in Acts 9:6?
19. Write the name of the man mentioned in Acts 15:34.
20. Study Acts 24:6-8. What would the Jew have done with Paul? What was the chief captain's name? What did the chief captain command?
21. Copy Romans 16:24 word for word from the NIV.
22. First Timothy 3:16 is perhaps the greatest verse in the New Testament concerning the deity of Christ. In this verse, who was manifested in the flesh?
23. In the second part of First Peter 4:14, how do [they] speak of Christ? And, what do we Christians do?
24. Who are the three Persons of the Trinity in First John 5:7?
25. Revelation 1:11 is another very important verse that proves the deity of Christ. In the first part of this verse Jesus said, "I am the A______________ and O___________, the _________ and the _______:"
Conclusion: Little space is provided for your answers, but it's much more than needed. If you followed the instructions above, you not only failed the test, you receive a big goose egg.
(Ed. These are all missing in the NIV.) So now what do you think of your "accurate, easy to understand, up to date Bible"?
If you would like to improve your score, and in fact score 100%, you can take this test using the Authorized (King James) Bible.

Only because the quiz was written using a KJV - in one of the many previous uses of this quiz someone wrote a similar quiz using the NIV and any KJV user would have received a "goose egg."

The NIV and the KJV are two different translations - no one would argue that.

C'mon C4K! The KJV has been around alot longer than the NIV. Of course if you reverse the quiz it would make the KJV appear wrong. You don't believe the KJV to be God's preserved word? Do you believe it to be inaccurate?

Why don't you come up with a real defense for the revered NIV. The KJV has stood the test of time and accuracy.

This "test" is just more propaganda written with the intent of demeaning the word of God. Yes, the KJV is the preserved word of God. But His word is also preserved in the NIV, the NKJV, the NASB, the ESV and other legitimate English translations. All of these translations perfectly preserve the Gospel message, the plan of salvation and the history God handed down to us. The belief that only one particular Bible version is the real word of God is certainly non-biblical, to say the least.

Hey, Roger, you're getting sloppy, man!:D This thread should have been closed from the beginning... (intended only as a joke)...

Your argument is emotional and baseless. Back it up! You say the KJV is God's preserved word. Why add or take away from it? There are specific warnings against it. Don't mess up the pure water of life. Don't mess with it or try to change it. Keep your stinkin feet out of my drinkin water!!

Soulman,

Do you attend Jack Hiles church? That phrase 'Keep your stinking feet out of my drinking water' is the title of one of the sermons he preached.

Actually most of these are disputed variants and won't be found at that particular verse in the NIV (except perhaps in a note).

Some of the answers can be found within the pages of the NIV at the verse where they were originally transcribed from.

Tis a shotgun post - too much here for worthy discussion.

Deacon, are you sure there's too much here for worthy discussion? It seems there isn't enough evidence here to support this attack on the NIV, so why bother? There can be no worthy discussion when someone slanders God's word.

Soulman, there really are Bible versions that mess with God's word, but the NIV, the NASB, the ESV and the NKJV are not among them. There are such versions as the Joseph Smith Translation, also known as the Inspired Version (Mormon), the Clear Word Translation (SDA) and the New World Translation (JW) which actually do change and pervert the Scriptures so that these errant groups can have a Bible that agrees with some of their false teachings. But when it comes to the mainline English Bible translations, they accurately reflect the manuscripts from which they are translated. God's word is preserved in the KJV. God's word is also preserved in various other English Bible translations like the NIV. Sorry, Soulman, your argument is empotional and baseless. Why don't you back up these railings against God's word?

I did actually have it ready to close - but decided to let it go for a few pages. Soon we will be sing "Here we go round the mulberry bush" again.

Any time one compares versions they are going to find differences - the "quiz" it pointless.

I'd love to see this quiz written testing the KJV from the Bishops Bible.

BTW, those who know me also know that I am no defender of the NIV - there are just MUCH better criticisms than this one.

Thank you, Brother Soulman, for the O.P.
It has been over six months without this 'quiz'
appearing. We need to do it twice a year.
(Seriously, this is better than the 'God hates
Halloween' discussion that preceedes it and
way better then the 'Christiams isn't scriptural'
discussion that follows it.)

Soulman: //You say the KJV is God's preserved word. Why add or take away from it?//

Double standard detect!
The KJVs have been added to and taken from :(
I have three DIFFERENT copies of the KJV.
I compare them frequently in this topic:

http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=31304&page=8

Here are the two KJVs that I use daily:
1. KJV1611 Edition
2. KJV1769 Edition

Here is the KJV that I use on a weekly basis:
3. KJV1873 Edition (may be just like an unauthorized
KJV1850 edition by the American Bible Society

Just thought I'd post here before the rhetoric became inflammatory. Whoops! Too late! I just saw post #1.

Good grief.

BTW...our forefathers in 1620 ran this quiz on puritanboard.com about the newfangled KJV supplanting the revered Geneva Bible...they just changed the names of the suspects to protect the innocent...

How often has this silly "quiz" beeen posted on various boards? About as many times as the sarcastic "counter-quiz" has been, a quiz to be answered using only the KJV.

How many times has the following question been asked and NOT answered..."Where is the SCRIPTURAL SUPPORT for the KJVO doctrine?"

The KJVOs say there's only one final authority, Scripture. However, if their doctrine isn't found in Scripture, they need a SECOND AUTHORITY to sustain their KJVO doctrine. Who/what is it? Which one IS the final authority?

Tee, Hee.
Checking this quit on the internet I found out something
interesting.

From the O.P. (error bolded by Ed):
//Fill in the missing words in Matthew 5:44. "Love your enemies,__________ them
that curse you, ______________ to them that hate you,
and pray for them that __________ and persecute you."//

Mat 5:44 (KLJV1611 Edition):
But I say vnto you, Loue your enemies, blesse them
that curse you, doe good to them that hate you,
and pray for them which despitefully vse you, and persecute you:

Amen, Brother Keith M -- You are so RIGHT ON!

As such the quiz shouldn't appear on a kindly
board where we discuss various Versions and Translations
toward understanding exactly how God has preserved His
Written Word: the Holy Bible. God has preserved His Written
Word in all valid English bibles as well as in many other languages
both in the past and in the present.

Try Answering These From Your KJV

(Then try the NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION!)

Using the King James Version of the Bible, answer the following questions. Do not rely on memory. As the Bible is the final authority, you must take the answer from the Bible verse (not from the 1611 KJV marginal notes which have mysteriously been removed from most "modern" KJV's, but from the text.)

(1) John 14:14 contains important proof of Christ's divinity, since prayer is to be offered to God alone. According to this verse, who is it we are to ask for anything in Jesus' name?

(2) Fill in the blanks from Acts 4:25 -- "You spoke by __________ through the mouth of your servant, our __________ David."

(3) In Acts 16:7, Paul and his companions were not allowed to enter Bythinia. According to the verse, the Spirit of __________ prevented them?

(4) In Romans 1:4, who was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead?

(5) An important verse which teaches that the Holy Spirit is a person (and not a "thing" or an impersonal "it" ) is found in Romans 8:26. Find the personal reference to the Holy Spirit.

(6) Fill in the blanks from Romans 8:34 -- "...who is the one who condemns? __________ __________ is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God,
who also intercedes for us."

(7) Titus 2:13 is one of the clearest statements of Christ's divinity in the New Testament. According to this verse, for whose glorious appearing do we wait?

(8) Another important verse demonstrating Christ's divinity is found in 2 Peter 1:1. According to this verse, through whose righteousness have we received our precious faith?

(9) Complete the following phrase from the first part of 1 John 3:1 -- "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is
__________!"

(10) Fill in the missing words from Jude 25 -- "...to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through __________ __________ __________ __________, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen."

Conclusion: Little space is provided for your answers, but it's much more than needed. If you followed the instructions above, you not only failed the test, you receive a big goose egg.

(These are all missing in the KJV.) So now what do you think of your "pure, preserved, inerrant Bible"?

If you would like to improve your score, and in fact score 100%, you can take this test using the New International Version of the Bible. O:)

Hmmm...that's something to ponder.

And the NIV certainly isn't my favorite translation either. But I hate to see God's word in any translation being demeaned and belittled.
