There seems to be a big gap between two types of posters. Group one memorizes a bunch of rules they read in Scripture or learned growing up, tries to obey them under their own power, and seeks to impose their Pharisee mindset on everyone else.

The second group is lead by the Holy Spirit in them, living in freedom from sin to become more like Christ each day. They tell others about the Gospel and what Christ has done for them on the cross. They worry more about a lost soul than they do about movies, TV, cigarettes, whether someone drinks or not, or what someone wears to church.

I consider myself the second group. But better to be in one of the two groups than neither. Think about it.

I have been debt free for decades. I have better things to do with my time than listen to radio shows that tell me how to manage money. I can figure that out on my own.

Just a thought on the matter...

It would be pointless to talk to "the lost" about ANY of the things listed above anyway because they do that kind of stuff because it is their nature to do so. Now the saved, on the other hand, may be in need of some instruction regarding their behavior...AFTER being born again. Doing (or not doing) that kind of stuff won't make them any more or less saved...but some proper and Biblical instruction regarding their behaviour may have a positive effect on their (visible) testimony toward "them that are without". IF we are truly "growing in grace" most of that stuff will be a non-issue because it will fall by the wayside. A true "Pharisee" would tell you that you have to do or NOT do that kind of stuff in order TO BE SAVED or TO GAIN FAVOR WITH GOD. That IS wrong.

That said...I will say that as Christians, our "main mission" should be to
spread the Gospel, the good news of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did for them at Calvary.

    That is MH(as possible)O.:jesus:

And who gets to decide which group is which? You've already determined the types, so we'll just select you to determine who the pharisees are who are not allowing the Holy Spirit to lead them and are still enslaved to sin.

I think there may be a third group of posters. Folks who think God gave them the job of exposing perceived faults in others. They post "this guy is semi-Pelagian" that guy is an Open Theist, and this other guy is a legalist.

I think the test is whether the OP expresses a view taught in scripture, i.e. fault finding is condemned in scripture, or whether it seems calculated to tear down others.

This third kind of poster justifies ignoring scripture by claiming two wrongs make a right. LOL We are judge ourselves, not another man's servants!

To identify a person as a Calvinist or a non-Calvinist is not the same as saying this guy is a heretic, a semi-Pelagian, a denier of the Fall.

Just because finding fault via slander is two fold wrong, does not make it right. LOL

Now what scripture or scriptures teach on fault finding? Is there anyone here who knows?

In all honesty I don't think the cal/armin camps can agree on anything. They can't agree on who God is, They can't agree on what Christ came to accomplish. They can't agree on who is the object of why Christ came into the world or why God sent him. So all of this makes for different post and different posters.

Are the teachings and commands of Christ on fault finding a mystery to all of His disciples? Romans 14:4.

There are two types of posters on here. There's the one kind of poster who steals birds, like Brother SN does, and then there's the ones who lose arm-wrestling matches like Brother Tom Butler does.

BTW, I heard after you two joined your home church in Lone Oak, they got very missionary oriented. It seemed like they couldn't volunteer quick enough. So was it because you two won't brush your teeth, fail to bathe at least once a week(whether you need it or not), buck line when you have dinner after church, won't "amen" the pastor during his sermon, or is it something else? I heard that they believe since you two joined, they wanted to get far away from you, so they became missionairies. :D :wavey: :love2: :flower:

    Bingo!

On the surface it seems that we should be able to agree on who God is and why Christ came into this world, and that is true in the abstract. But when we drill down on God's redemptive plan, His nature, and even His interaction with His creation (mankind) we have irreconcilable differences. This is why we have Calvinist churches that preach against Arminianism and Arminian churches that preach against Calvinism. This is why we have posters on this board who ignore or block each other. This is why insults abound. Emotions and tempers flare, not because we agree, but because we don't agree.

There will always be the exception to the rule, but outside of the BB the two camps typically do not keep company with each other. If I want to debate an Arminian I am more likely to do so on the BB then in my church since my church is Reformed. Conversely most mainline Baptist churches will find the same reality concerning Calvinists.

Many moons ago I was bothered by all this division. I finally came to realize that division for the sake of truth is worth it. After all, we are contending for the truth of God's word that leads to eternal life. If we get that wrong then what hope do we have of escaping the wrath to come?

Let me conclude by saying that division should never be our goal. It is sad that genuine Christian brothers cannot dwell together in unity. I would like to say that persecution brings about unity that otherwise would not exist. But history says otherwise. Study the Donatist controversy of the early church and your will see Christians who persecuted each other while the state was persecuting them both. We need to find unity where we can for the sake of the gospel, all without compromising our convictions. Is that even possible? My experience says it is doubtful.
