Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi is going to stop in Syria during an upcoming Middle East visit. As usual, Bush is against it, seems like diplomacy is something he knows little about. I think it is a good thing to talk to our potential enemies. It just might prevent a war.

"We do not encourage and, in fact, we discourage members of Congress to make such visits to Syria," said White House deputy spokeswoman Dana Perino. "This is a country that is a state sponsor of terror, one that is trying to disrupt the (Prime Minister Fouad) Siniora government in Lebanon and one that is allowing foreign fighters to flow through its borders to Iraq.

Another in your face insult to this administration by the leftist Democrats. Consorting with the enemy. She's remarkable.

    Meanwhile...

In a move that reflects Washington's growing concern with the failure of diplomatic initiatives, CIA officials are understood to be helping opposition militias among the numerous ethnic minority groups clustered in Iran's border regions.

The operations are controversial because they involve dealing with movements that resort to terrorist methods in pursuit of their grievances against the Iranian regime. SOURCE

Pelosi doesn't know much about diplomacy either, but as a democrat , she instinctively knows how to sell out her country.

Excellent move. There are many groups of Iranians who will work against the mad mullahs with some assistance. We should provide such assistance.

Do you mean like when Neville Chamberlain tried to talk to Adolph Hitler?
Do you think you will ever be able to convince these countries that Israel has a right to exist?
Make your choice. Either you support Israel or you support Syria and Iran. There will never be any middle ground. That is the crux of the issue.

Israel should always and forever have our support. It may be the only reason God hasnt taken us out. Iran should have been dealt with by us before Iraq ever came to the radar screen. Which one is a greater threat to our national security and economy? Duh.

Nothing stated above has nothing to do with the fact that the Bush adminstration is inept, lacking in moral direction, leadership, and are power hungry. The liberal democrats are slightly worse, but to put up a lesser evil on a pedestal as something to be admired is pathetic.

No, I was thinking more along the lines of Reagan talking to the Soviet Union, which averted a war, or Carter brokering talks between Israel and Egypt, which produced a peace treaty that is working to this day.

Of course you would look for the worse case scenario, it fits your modus operandi.

If it were Condaleeza, or Cheney, or someone like Ron Paul or Newt Gingrich going to Syria, these same voices would be hailing it as the greatest move in peacemaking since Reagan sold us out to the Contras in Nicaragua by selling arms to the Iranians. Their objection is that it's Pelosi, and their fear is that she might actually make some kind of progress with Syria, whereas the hardliners haven't achieved anything.

It's hard to believe someone could be mistaken so many times in just two sentences.

If it was anyone at all, including Pelosi, that was dispatched to speak to the dictator of Syria by the President, I would be fine with it.

As it is, conducting foreign policy is the exclusive province of the Executive branch, and Pelosi is butting in where she doesn't belong.

Just like Kerry and Harkin, who negotiated with Hugo in the 70s, and stupidly interfered with real negotiations being carried on by the State Dept, Pelosi's visit could have unintended negative consequences.

Yea, foreign policy has worked out fine under this inept President, right?

It is only a matter of time until the Congress forces the President to withdraw the troops. At that time it would be nice to have some communication channels open with countries in the region. I applaud what Speaker Pelosi is doing.

How do you get Ron Paul in that group??????????

He is as despised by the neo-cons as is Nancy Pelosi since he doesn't toe the party line.

I am not an Israeli, Syrian, or Iranian. I am a human being and care about all of these people. I am more concerned with the right of the United States of America to exist in peace.

Binary thinking is sad when a normal citizen embraces it. It is dangerous when a world leader does the same. Geopolitics are not black and white, but many shades of gray.

Yeah we should wage war on terrorism by employing terrorists. Brilliant! How do I get that cool Machiavellian two faced smiley icon to work?

You're either with us or with the terrorists! What a fine example of a total propaganda campaign that worked almost totally. BTW, you needn't worry about Pelosi supporting Israel. She's already been approved by AIPAC otherwise known as "the lobby" of our trusted ally that spies on us and sells our weapons technology to our enemies (Russia/China) for political favors. Pelosi knows her place in the scheme of things. She'll make show for the cameras but she will support attacking Iran and Syria as if her very job depended on it.

Reagan stood up to the Soviets. He didnt softsoap. He threatened them. He outfoxed them with his SDI and had them scared to death. He didnt appease them which is the only kind of talks you have in mind.

That is a funny quote coming from someone with a name like Magnetic Poles.

Lets hear your plan on how we are going to talk the Jews and the Muslims to live in peace. I have a feeling Israel will get the worse end of the stick. I am a little more realistic. Read your Bible if you have one.

All the while knowing what the American people didn't. The Soviet Union was dead broke and would have fallen all by itself if we did nothing.

I think this more than any of your other posts, says the most about your narrow viewpoint.
