None of them are "like the others".

They are each different scenarios requiring different solutions altogether. Over-simplification is dangerous.

Fears that President Obama’s $1bn pledge on European defence could provoke new Cold War

President Barack Obama has pledged up to $1bn in new US funding for European defence, reasserting Washington’s role in the region despite warnings from Russia that any military build up near its borders with eastern Europe could provoke a new arms race and a new Cold War.

The announcement at the beginning of Mr Obama’s four-day trip to Europe coincided with heavy fighting in Ukraine, where government forces launched a fresh offensive against the pro-Russian separatists who have taken over swathes of the eastern regions.

Translated from the original media double speak . . .

Obama and the neocons keep poking Putin in the eye with a sharp stick while the Washington/EU/IMF backed stooge government in Ukraine is busy killing off their political opponents.

    But typical of that member.

Russians are attempting to steal nearly half their country, and that yahoo wants to fault Ukraine for defending itself.

In Syria, the legitimate government of the country, which has ruled Syria for decades, is steering the nation back into order after years of deadly destabilization organized from abroad. The victor of the conflict and the territorial integrity of Syria is not in question. In Ukraine, elections were organized by violent usurpers who ousted the elected government in a bloody coup spearheaded by literal Neo-Nazis. They then launched military campaigns against the rest of the country in a bid to consolidate power before organizing rushed elections for the sole purpose of legitimizing their otherwise illegitimate unelected grip on power.

However, the regime in Kiev was unable to consolidate power before May 25 and in fact, the country is so divided, operations in the east look more like a foreign military occupation than internal policing. The EU's decision to uphold Ukraine's elections is an attempt to lend Kiev badly needed legitimacy ahead of continued and more intensified efforts to consolidate power. That the EU in turn is not only condemning Syria's elections, but actively blocking Syrians abroad from voting, illustrates the overall lack of legitimacy of the European Union itself. It also calls into question the myriad of institutions it uses to prop up such self-serving, biased policies.

And while the EU's hypocrisy swings wildly across the two most extreme ends of the spectrum, there is one common denominator between its position regarding elections in Ukraine and Syria. Both positions, for and against elections, help perpetuate campaigns of mass murder backed by the West in pursuit of its extraterritorial interests. In Ukraine, the Kiev regime's assault on the nation's east is fully backed by the West with many members of NATO already providing material support to ongoing operations. In Syria, since 2007, the West conspired to use sectarian extremists both inside Syria's borders and beyond them, to overthrow the government in Damascus. In 2011, this conspiracy was fully realized in a deadly conflict that has killed tens of thousands and left parts of Syria in ruins.

    < snip >

"Holding elections in the midst of conflict, only in regime-controlled areas" being a "parody of democracy" and therefore having "no credibility whatsoever" might have been a credible assessment by the European Union if it hadn't just fully endorsed as credible, elections in Ukraine held under precisely the same conditions. Indeed, the EU along with the US and rest of NATO, hailed recent elections in Ukraine as a success and immediately recognized pro-Western billionaire oligarch Petro Poroshenko as the new "president" of Ukraine.

However, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe's (OSCE) own report cited as proof that elections were "in line with international commitments and with a respect for fundamental freedoms," in fact reveals the exact same conditions inside of Ukraine the EU claims make the Syrian elections a "parody."

In the report, it admits that elections were not held at all in Crimea and nearly no voting occurred in the eastern most oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk. In the west where the only semblance of voting took place, the OSCE report admits opposition parties were regularly harassed, assaulted, and even driven from campaigning before the May 25 polls. And even as polls took place, the regime in Kiev was overseeing ongoing military operations in the east of the country that included armored vehicles, helicopters and even air raids.

I am still floored by the idea that Obama is actually "poking Putin in the eye":laugh:
    Yeah....
    I wish

Any President with stones would have "poked Putin in the eye" a lot more and long before this, Obama has been grovelling and kow-towing to Putin since day one.

    South-East Ukraine: Crisis Diary

While Crimea has already had a referendum, the situation in other Ukrainian regions is still unstable. People want their voices to be heard and are demanding a vote. RT managed to get footage from people living in various cities in southeastern Ukraine. Many of the videos and interviews you will see in this film have never been shown on television.

May 20, 2014 (Tony Cartalucci - NEO) - "Europe whole and free" and the "reconstruction and enlargement" of Europe. That is how the corporate-funded Atlantic Council - NATO's defacto public relations front and think tank - is describing the current agenda of the "transatlantic community" during their celebration of the "25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the 15th anniversary of NATO's first post-Cold War enlargement, and the 10th anniversary of the "big bang" enlargements of both the European Union and NATO."

Readers might notice that the EU and NATO's "big bang" enlargements occurred long after the Cold War ended - in other words, long after NATO's alleged reason for existing expired. Yet it not only continued to exist, it in fact expanded and continues to expand to this very day. Its presence in Ukraine and Georgia via proxy regimes installed through now admitted US-backed subversion is reminiscent to Nazi Germany's aggressive pre-war expansion. Russia then, as it does now, realized that with Nazi Germany nearing its borders, buffers against what was an existential threat were necessary.

    Buffers Vs. Empire Building

While Russian leader Joseph Stalin was a brute, and his seizure of Polish territory undoubtedly an act of aggression, it was one of several factors that helped slow the Germans down long enough for the Soviets to turn the tide and eventually win the war.

Today, similarly, Russia seeks buffers. Rather than construct them from seized territory, it has attempted to maintain its neighbors within its sphere of its geopolitical influence rather than within its own territorial borders. Nations like Belarus, Ukraine, and even Georgia all share close historical, economic, and cultural ties with Russia, much more so than with Western Europe. The arrangement Russia has sought has so far avoided the socioeconomic, military, and legal integration of its neighbors as the European Union requires, and unlike the Atlantic Council's bold intent to "enlarge Europe," Russia has yet to declare an agenda to "enlarge Russia."

Yet in the latest row in Ukraine, it has been portrayed as the "aggressor."

A recent episode of RT's CrossTalk titled, "Containment 2.0" concluded that NATO's continued expansion after the Cold War in the 1990's and early 2000's was designed specifically to encircle and contain the rise of any possible future Russian superpower. While CrossTalk's guests believed this stemmed from a belief across Washington that the US was a benevolent superpower that held the responsibility of policing the world and determining who could and couldn't wield power, there is a much simpler explanation backed by the summation of human history.

The US is engaged in empire building.

Hmmm . . . Atlantic Council, now where have I heard that name before?

    Oh yeah here it is . . . http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=92615 and here it is . . . http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2100324&postcount=53

Turns out this is where all the "evidence" was produced to dupe American's into believing that Russia invaded Ukraine. A verifiable nest of international financiers and corporate chieftains. Yeah the Atlantic Council, a favored source of "information" for the six corporate networks who are in turn owned and controlled by the same financial and corporate interests. Yeah, I knew I'd heard of them before.

Gee they wouldn't "slant" the "news" to benefit themselves, noooooooo.

Not so fast with the generalisations! The so-called 'People's Republic of Donetsk' is run by Russian Mafiosi and other assorted thugs and former criminals. Abductions, beatings, torture and rapes are de rigeur pm the streets of Donetsk, Luhansk and other eastern Ukrainian towns. These are not 'nice' people being brought to heel by Kiyev; the situation is analogous to the Krajina and Eastern Slavonia in 1991 or Bosnia in Spring 1992, when 'Arkhan' and his paramilitary sadists rampaged through villages performing acts of 'ethnic cleansing'.

Fighting rages in eastern ukraine town, residents flee

(Reuters) - Ukrainian government forces battled separatists with artillery and automatic weapons on Wednesday in a second day of fighting in and around Slaviansk, forcing many residents to flee.

The Kiev government, trying to break rebellions by pro-Russia militias, said over 300 rebels had been killed in the past 24 hours in the "anti-terrorist operation" centered on the eastern town, a strategically located separatist stronghold.

Rebels denied this, saying losses among the Ukrainian forces during an offensive begun on Tuesday exceeded theirs.

At an army checkpoint on the edge of town, heavy artillery shelling could be heard while a plume of black smoke rose above the outskirts. Automatic gunfire rattled out from nearby fields.

Families fled the fighting through a barbed-wire checkpoint with only as much as they could carry. "It's a mess," sobbed a young woman as she clutched her husband's arm. "It's war."

Andrei Bander left with his four-year-old daughter. "We are going. We don't even know where. We will head to Russia though because it's clear we need to leave Ukraine," he said, waiting for a taxi in a small a no-man's land between the two sides.

Read these MSM reports carefully. Take special notice with how they label the dissenters.

This is how they will be reporting the "news" when our own government comes after us. You and me. You and I will be the "bad guys", the "terrorists" the "violent ones" the "seperatists", the "right wing extremists" the "racists".

Or maybe you still think the government is arming itself to the teeth, militarizing the police, spying on all our emails and phone calls, and writing reports about how we and all the returning veterans are threats to national security because they want to protect us from the Islamists they are busy funding and arming.

When this comes to America and it will sooner or later, the government is gearing up for it now. They'll be pointing their words and their cannons at you . . . the "bad guys".

I've heard this quite a bit lately Matt. But then I also heard Saddam had WMDs and Assad used WMDs on his own people, turned out it was Washington and Saudi Arabia's radical Islamic proxy forces that used the WMDs and Washington and Downing Street supplied Saddam with WMDs. That's how they "all knew" he had them, they kept all the receipts.

No Matt I don't put much stock in what Washington and the corporate media says. They are proven liars after all.

Why should I believe anything a proven liar says? Especially when the facts and evidence doesn't support their lies.

But hey I'll give ya a chance to convince me. All ya gotta do is show me the proof Matt. Stack up all the evidence you can find and post it right here. I mean documented evidence not fear mongering and demonizing but documented evidence. Shouldn't be that hard if what you say is true. Right?

West feigns indignation as China allegedly shuts down US State Dept-funded BBC propaganda.

State controlled TV? You mean like the BBC? You know what they say about people who live in glass houses right?

Obama backs State Terror against Eastern Ukraine

Obama called Poroshenko’s installation as president a “wise selection,” even though, as classified diplomatic cables made public by WikiLeaks showed, Washington had previously regarded the billionaire as a “disgraced oligarch” who was “tainted by credible corruption allegations.”

Obama described himself as “deeply impressed by his vision, in part because of his experience as a businessman.” This “vision” guided Poroshenko in the corrupt and at times violent plundering of formerly state-owned assets, which turned him into a billionaire.

Russia, meanwhile, has unsuccessfully attempted to advance a resolution in the United Nations Security Council calling for an end to violence in eastern Ukraine and the creation of “humanitarian corridors” to allow civilians to leave the battle zone and enable the Red Cross and other aid agencies to get in. Washington and the other major Western powers have blocked the measure, insisting that there is no humanitarian crisis.

A Russian official Wednesday allowed that Moscow was not proposing the imposition of a no-fly zone over eastern Ukraine. The statement clearly recalled the 2011 maneuvers by the US and its allies at the UN in getting a no-fly zone imposed over Libya on the spurious grounds that it was needed to prevent government forces from carrying out a massacre in the east of that country. Once approved—with Moscow’s acquiescence—the measure was used to provide a legal fig leaf for the US-NATO war for regime-change.

As the Ukrainian regime launches a bloody crackdown in the east of that country, however, Washington and the Western European powers have no interest in raising humanitarian concerns. On the contrary, having already organized regime-change in the coup of last February, they are determined to consolidate their puppet regime by stamping out any resistance.

Ukraine and the “Politics of Anti-Semitism”: The West Upholds Neo-Nazi Repression of Ukraine’s Jewish Community

This article was first published by GR on February 26, 2014.

In recent developments, following the distribution of fake antisemitic leaflets in Donesk, the Western media has intimated that the pro-Russian federalist movement is integrated by neo-Nazis involved in threats against the Jewish community of Eastern Ukraine.

The Eastern Ukraine protest movement is accused of “unleashing a neo-Nazi wave against local Jews”.

Ironically, the Eastern Ukraine federalists –which include members of the Jewish community– have been the object of terrorist acts conducted by the two US-EU supported neo-Nazi parties (Svoboda and the Right Party), which according to the Western media are described as “ultra-conservative”. On April 19, in Slavyansk, Right Sector militants were involved in the killing of innocent civilians. The Right Sector –which is part of the government coalition–, overseas together with Svoboda, the civilian National Guard. The latter is supported by US-NATO.

The Ukraine’s National Security and National Defense Committee (RNBOU) which is controlled by Neo-Nazis plays a central role in military affairs. In the confrontation with Moscow, decisions taken by the RNBOU headed by Neo-Nazi Andrij Parubiy and his brown Shirt deputy Dmytro Yarosh –in consultation with Washington and Brussels– could potentially have devastating consequences. ” (Michel Chossudovsky, March 2, 2014)

This article sets the record straight. It establishes the complicity of US-NATO-EU in supporting neo-Nazi groups responsible for terrorist acts directed against Ukraine’s Jewish community.

    Michel Chossudovsky, April 20, 2014

    < snip >

Reports from Kiev confirm that the Jewish community is the target of the Right Sector and the Neo-Nazi Svoboda party, which is supported and financed through various channels by Washington and Brussels:

“Ukrainian Rabbi Moshe Reuven Azman asked Kiev Jews to leave the city and, if possible, the country, due to fears that Jews might be targeted [by Svoboda Brown Shirts] in the ongoing chaos. … Some Jewish shops have been vandalized and other threats to the Jewish community have been received.

“I told my congregation to leave the city center or the city all together and if possible the country too… I don’t want to tempt fate…but there are constant warnings concerning intentions to attack Jewish institutions,” Rabbi Azman told Maariv. (JN, February 24, 2014)

The leaders of the Ukrainian Jewish Community contacted Israel’s Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman requesting the assistance of Israel. (Edward Dolinsky, head of the umbrella organization of Ukraine’s Jews).

Israel –which is unofficially a member of the Western military alliance (US-NATO-Israel)– has remained mum on the subject: Real Politik Uber Alles. No statement has emanated from Tel Aviv. The Israeli government has not responded to the request of the Ukrainian Jewish Community nor has it made any statements.

America’s pro-Israeli lobby The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has not taken a stance on the issue. Not a word from Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu.

“Actually, as Winston well knew, it was only four years since Oceania had been at war with Eastasia and in alliance with Eurasia. But that was merely a piece of furtive knowledge, which he happened to possess because his memory was not satisfactorily under control. Officially the change of partners had never happened. Oceania was at war with Eurasia: therefore Oceania had always been at war with Eurasia. The enemy of the moment always represented absolute evil, and it followed that any past or future agreement with him was impossible…” – George Orwell, 1984

First off, the BBC is not 'state controlled'. It is funded indirectly by the state through the licence fee and is thus akin to a public service broadcaster. It has at times been one of the fiercest critics of the particular government of the day, so your comparison does not stack up.

Secondly, what sort of 'documentary' evidence do you expect there to be of the sort of crimes committed in Donetsk and Slavyansk? Do you expect a rape victim to produce documentary proof to the police?

My cousin's husband is from Dnepropetrovsk. He is half-Russian and half-Ukrainian (as many Ukrainian citizens are) so doesn't have a particular dog in this fight but he will tell you that Russians are being brainwashed by their TV into thinking that Kiyiv is run by a neo-Nazi junta and that the Ukrainian government are a bunch of terrorists who are conducting ethnic cleansing in the east. You need to have a chat with him...

Sure if you overlook what I just posted.

What I expect is for people who make such claims to back to them up with some hard evidence. Said the same thing to those who were claiming "Russia invaded Ukraine", the result an "epic failure" on their part to produce any evidence that wasn't coming from global financier linked sources. In other words people who have a vested interested in seeing the neo nazis in power.

I'd like that Matt. I have a ton of documented evidence that shows he's being brainwashed by the Washington, Soros, EU backed neo nazi junta in Kiyiv.

I can indeed back up my claims with documented evidence with ease. You?

Well you just showed us what your evidence is.

Poncho, I really hope your wife/girlfriend/daughter/sister is never raped, partly for the obvious reasons but also because I look forward to your demanding documentary evidence from the lady concerned to substantiate her allegation before you'll believe her. Good luck with that...

For the record, my said cousin-in-law lives in England and has done for the last 14 years; so much for your assumption that he's been brainwashed by Kiyiv....
