I would like to look at one particular sin … and see what Scripture says about
the person who habitually engages in this sin … i.e. fails to overcome this sin.

“These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil,
a false witness who speaks lies, one who sows discord among brethren.” (Proverbs 6:16-19)

Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil ... Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord,
but those who deal truthfully are His delight” (Proverbs 12:20, 22)
“A righteous man hates lying” (Proverbs 13:5) … “I hate and abhor lying” (Psalm 119:163)

    Let’s remember …
“When he (Satan) speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources,
for he is a liar and the father of it (lies).” (John 8:44)
Liars are following Satan … they certainly are not following the Spirit.
IMO, lying is almost the opposite of love!

The following 3 passages apply to absolutely everyone …

“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers sexually immoral,
sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns
with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)

“But there shall by no means enter it (the eternal city) anything that defiles,
or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in
the Lamb's Book of Life.” (Revelation 21:27)

“But outside (of the eternal city) are dogs and sorcerers
and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters,
and whoever loves and practices a lie.” (Revelation 22:15)

The 3 passages above are referring to HABITUAL SIN (not the occasional sin),
and Jesus’ warning to the habitual sinner is spiritual death, i.e. no salvation!

The opposite of this is REPENTED-OF SIN

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

Continual genuine repentance ... PLUS ... the help of the Holy Spirit ... PRODUCES ... the overcomer!

To all the churches in Rev 2-3, Jesus warns that they must be “overcomers”

    • “To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life”
    • “He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death”
    • “He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name
from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels”
    • “He who overcomes … I will write on him the name of My God and the name of
the city of My God, the New Jerusalem … And I will write on him My new name”
    • “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne”
    Revelation 2:7, 2:11, 2:26, 3:5, 3:12, 3:21

And He adds that those with spiritual ears will heed the warnings!
    Revelation 2:7, 2:11, 2:29, 3:6, 3:13, 3:22

Guess the thief on the Cross didn't quite make it, eh?

And those who overcome ARE those saved by Grace of God, because he saved us, THAT is why we will overcome!

Not that we get saved sorta, and unless we work up to that overcoming level will get rejected in the end!
