unique KJV edition of the Hebrew-Greek Key Study Bible

The KJV edition of The Hebrew-Greek Key Study Bible edited by Spiros Zodhiates and printed in 1984 by Baker Book House is another of many unique and different KJV editions in print today. After examining over 100 editions of the KJV, I have found that there are many different and varying KJV editions in print today. There may be as many as 20 varying editions of the KJV in print today.

It has been pointed out before that the KJV edition printed by the American Bible Society in the 1800's became the standard KJV edition followed by some other American publishers. In my opinion, this present-day edition of the KJV was also based on a KJV edition printed by the American Bible Society along with at least another KJV edition such as the Oxford edition in the Scofield Reference Bible or some other Oxford KJV edition. It could be described as a unique combination of renderings from the KJV edition printed by the American Bible Society with at least one other KJV edition. It was possibly based on more than two KJV editions. Its editor or printer also may have introduced a few changes.

Here is a rendering that suggests the influence of the Oxford edition in the Scofield Reference Bible on the text of this 1984 KJV edition.

Actually I do not think that Zodhiates took it upon himself. This would seem to be another example of his KJV text following the text of a KJV edition printed by the American Bible Society. In several of the other examples I listed, Zodhiates' edition seems to follow the ABS KJV editions [although not in every one].

While I do not know for sure, I wonder if the early KJV editions printed by the American Bible Society were not first based on a KJV edition printed at Edinburgh, Scotland. I do not have the Edinburgh KJV edition printed in 1810 that I had borrowed to check, but a Edinburgh KJV edition printed in 1842 has "Spirit" with a capital "S" at the first occurrence at John 6:63 just as ABS KJV editions also have. The KJV edition printed in 1846 at Portland, Maine, seems to have been based the text of an ABS edition or else on the same KJV text on which their editions were based.
