    $ 17,295,259,832,000.06

    that is 17.3 trillion dollars.

    At 300 million americians That is about a $60,000 debt per person.

    There are about 65 million Americians in the work force. That means each working Americian is responsible for about $ 265,000.

    Even if interest is only 1% that would be 175 billion dollars a year; 14 Billion dollars a month or 486 million dollars a day, 20 million dollars an hour; 337,ooo a minute, or- 6,000 dollars per second. remember - thats all at an interest rate of only 1%!

    Is it time to do somthing?

    Yes, it is time to do something. It's time to reorganize government, and I don't mean just change the job descriptions of cabinet members and look for cost-cutting measures. It's time to put an end to big government by taking government back from the professional politicians. We need to call a Constitutional Convention -- the "redress of grievances" guaranteed in the First Amendment taken to logical conclusions -- and institute small government that cannot be grown out of proportion.

    We need six basic departments at the Cabinet level. Defense, State, Commerce, Treasury, Justice, and Interior. Those department heads should administer their departments with a minimum of support personnel, and in the case of Commerce and Interior, most of the authority for spending should be passed down to the states. Virtually everything else the federal government has been doing since FDR is rightly a state-based responsibility that never should have been usurped by Washington.

    We have no need to interfere from the federal level in housing, economic development, health sciences, education, energy, or most of the other cabinet-level positions. We have created a bureaucracy that has become a multi-headed monster that Hercules couldn't decapitate, a bureaucracy that spends money at an alarming rate without respect for where the money came from or how great the sacrifice is for continuing supply of it. It is time to plunge a dagger through its heart and let it die, but no one in Washington is ever going to be able to carry off that mission. We, the People, are going to have to do it for them.

    Yep. That's where it was for years. Since it became it's own department, the VA has become an immoral and unjust mess.
