So you don't believe the Bible. Rather you beleive that the Bible lies. Here is what it plainly says (in one of many verses)

2 Corinthians 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God,

Did you know that I am not a follower of Luther, nor a member of any current Paulistic cult?

From my own notes and research accumulated during 20 plus years of teaching Old and New Testament Survey college courses.

I never said anything remotely close to that. I do believe the Bible. But Paul was not an apostle. He was a disciple. There were only 12 apostles hand picked by Jesus and Paul was not one of them. He can call himself an apostle all he wants. There is no doubt that he was the greatest missionary of his time.

At any rate, that doesn't change the fact that Paul wrote some of his letters before the Gospels were written.

It appears that Paul contradicts himself. However, when one realizes that his letters are intended for a targeted audience and he is only addressing specific needs of an area than his letters makes sense. With the writings of Paul, you have to look at them as a whole and not seperate in order to see the big picture.

That only shows how corrupt and liberal the Catholic Church has begun. Go to ancient sources. Go to conservative sources that beleive the Bible. Why go to people that don't believe the Bible in the first place?

Oh dear DHK, do you realise how offensive this sounds...Until the advent of the printing press circa the 15th century, it was the monks of the Church that laboured to reproduce the Bible documents handed down from earlier times. This deposit of Faith is retained by Catholics untrimmed as in the Protestant Bible.

The Sunday Mass of the Catholic faith centres on a calender called the Temporal Cycle which revolves around Easter and Christmas. The readings used in every mass are taken from the Bible. This occurs in the Tridentine Mass although I have not got a clue what is happening in the pseudo-protestant liberalism of the Sunday service that masquerades as Catholicism at present.

That's not what the Bible teaches. There were more than 12 apostles in total.

That's not what the Bible teaches. There were more than 12 apostles in total. </font>[/QUOTE]Very true.

There were 12 original apostles chosen by Christ.
One of them, Judas Iscariot, betrayed Him. He went out and hung himself. He never was a true apostle, nor a true believer. He was an imposter. When he hung himself that left 11 apostles.

In Acts 1, we find the 11 Apostles choosing one to make up the 12. They chose Matthias.

Acts 14:14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,
--Here, both Barnabas and Paul are referred to as Apostles. That now brings the number up to 14.

1 Thessalonians 1:1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 2:6 Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
--Now is included Silvanus and Timotheus among the Apostles bringing the number to 16.

The word "apostle" comes from the Greek "apostolos," which simply means "sent one," or one sent, specifically one who is sent with the message of the gospel.
When the New Testament was translated into Latin the word mittere was used, from which we get our word "missionary," also meaning "sent one," one sent with a message."
An apostle, in its modern usage is a missionary. In essence every Bible believing Christian that is living for the Lord ought to be a missionary sent forth with the gospel, telling others of the gospel of Christ.
