Please can anyone tell me why , suddenly over the last few weeks my computer is often running low on virtual memory (I don`t even know what this means) :type:
Does this harm my machine? what could be causing it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Gwyneth

Are you running more programs than normal?

Virtual memory is part of the hard drive that the system uses like it uses your memory. It stores stuff it is going to need where it can easily find it.

You might go to control panel and system and look around for virtual memory settings. Usually if you allow windows to control virtual memory you won't get the error messages. If it is set to allow windows and you aren't using more programs than usual, something might have happened to your main memory.

Start button/accessories/system tools/system information. A window should open telling of the computer. There will be an entry about how much memory you have and this should match the amount that is installed.

There is also a listing of virtual memory as well as an entry of how much regular and virtual memory you have available.
