In answer to the question of why isn't Obama way ahead in the polls, I keep hearing political pundits say that because of summer vacations and back to school shopping the voters just aren't paying attention to the presidential race yet.

    Aren't paying attention yet?

    How can this be?

    The first black nominee?
    The Hillary back story?
    24 hour cable news?
    Blogs?
    Talk radio?

And voters aren't paying attention because they are too busy back to school shopping?

    Does anyone buy this explanation?

No. But the general public has other things on their collective minds, unlike the talking heads and political junkies. Things like whether to fill the gas tank to go to work or spend that money to put food on the table or keep their house payments on time, dumb things like that.

I am amazed by the lack of knowledge of the issues by my work peers and church peers. They all seem to have adopted the attitude that Bush is bad but they cant tell me why he is. They say that Bush ruined the economy but they cant tell me how, they say that we need Obama to fix the economy but they cant tell me how he is going to do it. All they know is that Bush got us into a war and they dont know why, and they also say that we need obama to bring all the troops home, but they havent even considered the fact that Iran will move right into Iraq and place their missles on iraq's western border so that they can easily reach Isreal.

Most basically have no clue what's going on in the world, nor do they care to find out. They just roll with what they hear....the war is unpopular and Bush has ruined the economy. Its a shame that folks dont educate themselves with such an important election coming up.

Most people here in the south claim to be democrats because their parents were democrats and "they were raised that way". But yet if you ask them their opinions on issues, they will give you mostly all republican answers. They dont have a clue as to what the political platforms of the partys are, and really have no interest in finding out.

I am glad for the political debate on this forum. Even the folks on here that I dont agree with at least have researched their position and have some knowledge to back it up with.

Yes, I agree, at least most of the folks I know are not really interested in this election.

My wife is not politically minded and doesn't keep up with it, yet, in about five minutes time I convinced her to become an Obama supporter today.

Am I good or what?

It is things like that which will eventually doom Senator John Sidney McCain III's campaign.

We have to wonder about some supporters who appear on TV. Watching TV tonight it turns out that a Clinton supporter that the McCain campaign used in an advertisement didn't even know Senator McCain's stated position on abortion as being pro-life - she thought he was pro-choice.

    Or maybe she knows something.

Some of us have known all this time that you are an Obama supporter, no surprise, Ken. Bob Barr/Ron Paul were only pawns for you. Sad.:tear:

If McCain was doomed, he wouldn't be neck in neck with Obama right now. At this point in '04, Kerry had a large lead over Bush in the polls, and Bush ran away with it. If this is any indication, McCain's win over Obama will be a landslide.

My wife wasn't paying much attention until yesterday when I proved to her that Senator John Sidney McCain III is a warmonger.
