I would say that not everyone knows that John was the first Baptist.

John was an immerser and was called that because of the immersion he called all to obey in repentance for the remission of sins.

So He did not teach faith alone.

So is John the baptist the founder of the Baptist churches?

I was under the impression that Jesus was the founder of His church, so if John was the first baptist was he a Christian? Are baptist then of John's church or Christ's church?

Er...no; to say that he was is one of the more ignorant and risible statements I have seen here.

    Be careful, JSM17.

You already get by with proselytizing on this board. My understanding is that trying to proselytize Baptists away from the Baptist congregations is against board rules.

People have been banned for that.

I am not a moderator, and I am not Baptist, but I still suspect that comment was put up mainly to offend. There is a difference between
    a) posting comments to discuss a subject but collaterally might hurt feelings, versus
    b) posting comments that are mainly intended to offend or insult.
    The latter is flaming.

What you have above borders on flaming. That is against board rules. I am not Baptist, and even I perceived the effort to be mocking. The mockeries of church groups that you enjoy in your group's `Bible classes' will not be well received here. Tread lightly.

No, Jesus Christ was the first Baptist before the foundations of the world. All other "denominations" are false and all members of them will burn in hell!

John is the first person any English version of Scripture 'calls' a 'Baptist' to my knowledge.

    Amen.

Fact is, the group to which JSM17 is proselytizing to can cause great harm to Christian lives. Most portions of the Churches of Christ are `against these Christians, against those Christians, against those other Christians, etc.' Christian life suffers when it is influenced to be like that. Worse, there are portions of the Churches of Christ that can be downright corrosive, with adherents who would have shown more Christian virtues had they not got involved in those groups. Baptists and others should not have to spent time on a Baptist board trying to prevent Baptists from being diverted away to groups like that.

Further, if the proselytizing is going to extend to mocking and ridiculing Baptists, it goes way too far.

JSM17 I am closing this thread because it is started on a false premise.
First you took a quote from me without giving the link from where it came (thus out of its context).
Second, the comment is facetious. Just by reading it carefully you can see that it isn't my normal style of writing. I don't normally refer to "Us Baptists." That does't mean "U.S. Baptists, BTW, or I would have punctuated it properly. IT is us, as in we. I would have said, "The Baptists...," or "The Baptist movement..." I don't write like a hillbilly.
Third the comment was made in opposition to your harping on the Biblical name of "churches of Christ." Thus you have taken my comment out of context.
Just as "churches of Christ" is not a Biblical denominational name neither is Baptist. That is what I believe. I was showing you that in a very facetious way, but apparently you did not get it.

Fourthly, and most importantly, since I don't believe literally what you quoted as my belief it becomes a misrepresentation of my beliefs. That is dishonesty.
Thus this thread must be closed.

edit: I could have said that the Presbyterians were just as Biblical as the Baptists, for they took their name right out of the Bible as well:

1 Timothy 4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

But that probably would have gone over your head as well.
