Well some of this I am familiar with, and am aware that the Jacobite movement eventually withered away. But as I say, it can get very convoluted if you try to give it a closer look. Example: I remember reading that some Jacobite nobility, Catholics from the south of England, considered themselves to be the true cavaliers, who I'd always thought of as being Anglican. And these Catholic cavaliers were allied to Gaelic speaking clans in the Scottish highlands at times, other times not and so on and so on. This is the type of thing that is hard to keep track of, and seems hardly worth keeping track of unless one enjoys a good headache.

At that level, it becomes the work of specialists.
However, for th purposes of the AmRev, it proves there are principles at work that a cursory look focused only on the mid-1700s won't see. If one looks solely at the period immediately prior to 1776, you don't see the unstated (because back then everyone knew and/or shared them) presuppositions.

If one can not properly understand the Civil Rights movement of the 50s and 60s without a knowledge of the preceding hundred years of American history, the same can be said of the AmRev.

True. It is like the old maps with large unexplored areas marked only 'Here be Dragons'.

There be dragons in several areas of my maps.
