You did not answer my question. Do you think Christ banned the death penalty ? Please, yes or no.

To answer your question, I think it's good to strive to obey God, and not seek reasons not to. There's no way you can deny your stance comes from your reasoning. Nipping at the edges of scripture, and putting your own prejudices into the argument has done nothing to give you any spiritual weight behind your assertion.

And I refuse to even enter into an argument about what Christ didn't say.

CBT, do you really think that you yourself can attack the image of God and just walk away without paying for it?

CBT, you do not even bother to cite book, chapter, and verse for these allusions.

Do you use these allusions to support Roe V Wade and Dred Scott?

Do you think that you yourself, CBT, have the right to murder someone made in the image of God and that the state has no right to execute you?

How do you explain Pete Seeger's support for the Stalinist murders of tens of millions of people?

You simply refuse because you have no answer and are not honest enough to admit it.

I gave you the answer. I knew you would never accept it ... because I gave it.

Now, if you are not going to be honest and answer questions then please do not ask questions.

So, show me where Christ said it is all right to have a system whereby innocent people can be executed.

Show me where Christ in the NT says it is acceptable to execute innocent people of crimes they were accused of, then I will change my stance. That is all I am asking.

Otherwise known as the "have you stopped beating your wife" premise.

No human-designed system is perfect. People are found guilty based on the evidence and testimony available. But you're advocating that we abolish the death penalty because a few mistakes have been made. What about those that admitted their guilt? Or those that have asked for no appeals and a speedy execution? What about those that would rather be executed than live a life of misery and suffering?

You still haven't answered: Forcing someone to suffer and be miserable for five, ten, twenty, fifty years--how is that Christ-like? Where is the scripture to back that up?

Actually, I did answer. And I have been respectful to you in these conversations and demand the same in return. I refuse to engage with you wondering what Christ WOULD have said. And I refuse to accept such wonder as a factual, or rational argument.

God gave us the death penalty, and demanded we use it. It is up to you to show where Christ corrected his father.

So in your opinion it is alright that some innocent people are executed.

On confessions, we all know that there are false confessions and that some are coerced. I will advocate the death penalty when a system is found whereby it is impossible for any innocent person to be executed.

I refuse to engage with you wondering is Christ-like with a person who only wants to be obtuse. I am sure you would never agree with me anyway, so why bother. And I refuse to accept such speculation as a factual, or rational argument.

Who were those last three sentences to, and what do they say ?

You have not put up a Biblical argument against the death penalty.

And you have not put up an argument saying that Christ approves of executing the innocent.

That's rich. And obviously, you won't respond to my "Christ-like" query because it defies explanation in light of your other positions.

This thread is obviously done, so allow me to submit my final post. The following is based on CTB's comments in this thread, and his anti-abortion-but-supports-abrtion-rights-of-others comments in other threads. You see, CTB is a confusing, contradictory dichotomy:

CTB opposes the death penalty for all, including the guilty, because someone might be innocent; but he supports a death penalty, without hope of appeal, imposed on those that are definitely innocent.

He advocates sentencing the guilty to years of misery and suffering, in the hope they somehow turn out to be innocent; but the unborn, because he believes them to not be "living" yet, receive no such courtesy.

I believe this to be a mostly accurate assessment of CTB's thoughts and opinions, based on this and many other threads. It won't surprise me if he denies it, and tries to say differently; because I know that in his own mind, he clearly understands what he thinks he believes. But let us not forget that he also believes that we should not have firm beliefs, that we should always stand ready to change our minds. In this regard, there is the possibility--the hope?--that one day, he will come to the same understanding as the rest of us.

There are a couple of us who have been saying all this for a couple of years now. With is postmodern existentialist thinking and ambiguous use of words he thinks he is smarter than everyone when in fact no nonsense people just see his facade as foolish and unintelligible. There is nothing in this world that is more absurd than continuity thinking.

In my opinion the greatest murderer of all time is the rage of the emotional system which grows colder with time.

Do you approve of a system where innocent people can be executed? Is it simple collateral damage?

No, you are asking to be excused from logic and hermeneutics.

Apparently, you believe in the Fatherhood of God, the Brotherhood of Man, and the Neighborhood of Malibu and the Dollar.

Jesus never said that the innocent should be executed and you know it. What you are saying is that it was a mistake to tell Noah to execute murderers just because man is made in the image of God. So you are saying that God did not know what He was doing when God commanded:

Genesis 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

Furthermore, you have said that we should go the extra mile with murderers, and turn the other cheek with murderers, and not cast stones at murderers, and to be kind to murderers.

Well here are some famous references that are also out of context: Matthew 27:5; Luke 10:37; John 13:27.

It is a pity that you do not want to have a free debate, CBT.

You are not being rational, C.T.Boy. This argument is not about executing the innocent. It is about executing the guilty.

You are the only person on the board who has bragged about being smart.

Show me where Christ says it is alright to execute innocent people. Simple request. I answered your question. Now please respond to mine.

That has been my point from the beginning of the OP. The innocent, and we know there are some on death row, should not be executed. This will mean that those who are guilty will stay in jail all their life. You dwell on executing the guilty, but never seem to care at all about the innocent.
From post no. 3 ... which I posted.
