While watching the Astros take on the Nationals the past few days in Washington, D.C. I learned that there are different caps worn based on political affiliation.

The Nationals' cap is red with a "W" for Washington.

Republicans and supporters of President Bush wear the regular red cap with the "W" as "W" was a symbol for the Bush campaign in 2004.

Democrats and opponents of the Bush administration wear a black cap with "DC" on it.

The Nationals have another cap as well. They wear the red hat with a script W at home. (That is the GOP hat that I own) and a blue hat with the same W on it while on the road. I don't know why a black hat is needed. Red for Republicans, Blue for Democrats... everyone should be happy.

Quite a turnaround by the Astros after being 15-30. :D

    Very true, Ken.

This is exactly what they did last year, except the turn around then did not come until after the AllStar break.

MP, you hit the nail on the head. [IMG]

I'll bet Carlos Beltran is kicking himself. [IMG]

There are more parties than just those two. And there are those who disagree with their own party.

The people not in either party are such a fringe minority that it isn't worth the additional cost of making a hat for them. Plus, we're talking about WASHINGTON DC. It is the one place where it can be said if you aren't an R or a D you don't have a voice. It is run by the two parties.

And, if you don't agree with your party-- change it! (That is what I decided to do, and it is working well.) That doesn't mean you need a special hat for an athletic team because of party line affiliation.

And yet, those extra hats are being bought, sold and worn!

Nevertheless, idealists and cranks persist. Remember, there were not always these two parties.

I'm happy for you. However, some people prefer to work within their party rather than abandon it like a rat from a sinking ship.

The party line affiliation was your idea and you were the one questioning the black. Just because you feel like two parties and two colors are sufficient doesn't mean that the athletic teams are obliged to follow your rule. [IMG]

I guess I didn't make myself clear. I am working within my party. Working to change it that is. I am now the chairman of the county party, a member of the state Republican committee, etc. I don't want to run away. I want to make things better.

As for the hats. I didn't suggest the black, someone said that Nationals fans were wanting, or wearing them. I just mentioned that the team already wears red and blue hats depending whether they are at home or on the road. I thought they did a good job of including all the folks in DC.

Except it isn't "all". You may say we "others" don't count for anything, but we disagree. [IMG]
