"The $621 million project, however, was completed more than $350 million over original projections and four years behind schedule. "

Over 100% over budget? Four years behind schedule?

Washington stinks alright - but it ain't the tourists !!

    IT GETS EVEN WORSE:

    this is from: http://briefingroom.thehill.com/2008/12/02/demint-capitol-visitor-center-fails-to-honor-faith/

    Those Godless scum.

I hope the place collapses (with no loss of life). May it be eaten by termites and infested with roaches. That's not a far cry from congress, which is overrun with blood-sucking parasites.

People, quit voting for incumbent congressmen. If you do, you better be able to give a list of reasons why...and if any of them include "he/she gives me..." then you're part of the problem.

Throw 'em all out, and start over. There might be 20 exceptions in the 535.

Not only throw them out, dismantle the two parties so we don't have the self indulgent rats rotating in and out of office. There is no solution to this problem until we elect people wanting to serve, not people wanting money and power. The only way to do that is to get rid of the two major parties.

AND we can't rid of them because everyone wants someone else's bum to go in most cases. When will we all be fed up enough for a real uprising?

We need to start supporting third party candidates on local and state levels.

Pardon the length of this...I just sent this to my local paper: And before you tell me I should 'edit it for tone,' be aware...I did! :D

    **************************

Sorry…I don’t usually do current event emails, but here’s what the losers we elected (D’s AND R’s) have been busy doing: Building a “capitol visitor’s center.”

While we languish in a recession and fight terrorism, this is what these morally and ethically deficient wastes of organic matter have been working on.

    But it gets worse.

    · Originally planned to cost $71 million (as if that’s not wasteful enough)…it now is going to cost you and me $621 million dollars. You know…maybe they should ask for a bailout. It works for everyone else.
    · $85 million dollars of this is a TV and radio studio (and you thought this was a visitor’s center), with adjoining makeup facilities…so your idiot congressmen could produce propaganda, er, “informational broadcasts” for constituents. (That’s otherwise known as tax dollars paying for their re-election publicity. Hugo Chavez would be proud).
    · Chief senate scumbag Harry Reid was excited about the facility because, and I quote: “My staff tells me not to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway," said Reid in his remarks. "In the summer because of the heat and high humidity, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol.” That’s what these cretins think of the Americans that pay their salary. Harry, you should listen to your staff. Of course, you should listen to the American people too, but since your “give a darn” is terminally ill, we’ve come to expect such behavior.
    · The central theme of this monument to cranial rectitis is faith in government (very much a digression from our actual history). To that end, tourists will be reminded of our faith in government rather than God upon entering the premises. Visitors will enter reading a large engraving that states, ‘We have built no temple but the Capitol. We consult no common oracle but the Constitution.’ That sound you hear is our forefathers rolling over in their graves. Thank God that I can tell Him myself that these agnostic pretenders speak for themselves and not me.

I call upon Americans to do the following:
    1. Quit voting for incumbents. Out of the 535 in office, I doubt less than 30 are anything less than parasitic reprobates whose conscience was voted out about the time their bodies were voted in. If you can’t come up with 10 reasons to vote for someone that don’t involve, “He/she is giving me…” then you are part of the problem yourself, and you should do us a favor and “forget” to vote at least 100% of the elections. If they are all removed from office, maybe their successors won’t be half as stupid, arrogant, and morally bankrupt.
    2. Do not EVER visit this lavishly funded latrine. Let it sit vacant. Yes, it will waste money, but it’s going to do that anyway. Treat this sewer, and the scum who “funded” it by stealing your money, as you would a bad movie: starve it of all attention, and don’t share a dime of your discretionary funds there.
    3. Feel free to bring termites to the facility. Stupid as these folks are, they probably didn’t even get pest protection…and since most of them are either pests, parasites, or dung beetles, they likely have an innate fear of the Orkin man.

I’m just kidding about the last one. Barely. But if you love your country, appreciate your wallet, and are sick of the dirtbags in DC stealing your money to build godless monuments to their own stupidity and excess, then start screaming bloody murder.

For more, read the following…but be warned: it might make you sick.

Long lines + hot weather results in what?

He referenced House Minority Leader John Boehner's comments about the long lines of tourists that stream into the Capitol complex, and said: "In the summertime, because (of) the high humidity and how hot it gets here, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol."

As the crowd laughed, Reid said, "And that may be descriptive but it's true. Well, that is no longer going to be necessary."

There should never, ever be a long line to this boondoggle.

These idiots who had it built don't deserve anything but derision for such.

Come on...we just built a $2 million dollar education facility. This thing equals THREE HUNDRED of our buildings!!!

Someone should be in jail. I say start throwing 'em in, and when it fills up, build another jail.

    I agree Rbell...

BTW, this thread triggered a google ad titled... "Armpit odor solution" lol

    Rbell for congress!

Also, here are some of Senator Jim DeMint's comments to Glenn Beck about this waste of taxpayers money:

Read the whole article.. it is quite good...
Senator DeMint even gives some ideas on what we as Americans can do to fix this big multimillion dollar atrocity!

Washington DC was high ground in the middle of a malarial swamp and no one was supposed to live there in the summer except slaves and white trash overseers.

90 degrees, 90% humidity. Take a shower in the morning and 3 minutes later you are wet with sweat. At least that's how it was before AC.

I can smell the stink that comes out of Congress all the way down in Central KY! :D

The stink that Congress is so averse to smelling there, is that of "We, the People" when we actually visit Washington. D.C..

I can't imagine that DC smells any worse than my local Post Office----garlic, onions, and body odour.
