I am reduced to tears for your kind comments. Thank you. I hope you will be blessed by the movie. </font>[/QUOTE]Yep, it was a great movie, and I will go to see it again and again! Since I am a single guy, it was a good start for my first date with my lady friend. She enjoyed (and cried!) it very much.

Peace and love to you in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour!

    Ladyeagle,

Agreed! This movie is opening doors to talking to absolute strangers about Jesus Christ & having them be receptive to the Gospel - that in itself is awesome!

As I understand and commend your positive outlooks, I do have to remind you that we don't "need" a film to open any doors to reach the lost. We do not see the apostles using plays in ampitheaters, personal tragedies, or forms of entertainment to reach the lost. What we do see, is the love of Christ Jesus and the love they had for others to share with them the gospel, even in the face of persecution and death. The urgency and passion they had to save the lost and bring them to Christ Jesus regardless of whether they were in a postion to be receptive. It is the Lord our God who softens their hearts toward repentance. We are to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth, and to every creature. WE do not need a movie, or entertainment, or seeker friendly service to reach the lost. WE need the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace. We need to go out in every situation in every day of our lives and share Jesus Christ with them, no matter what. We do not need them to be open for Christ, we just need to share him with them everywhere and everyday.

love in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour,
    michelle

Nevertheless, Paul did use what was already out there in the society as a springboard for preaching the Greeks. Today, movies are a part of our society, so why not use them for the same purpose. If you complain about what you claim Mel added to the movie and still watch other biblical movies (Jesus of Nazareth, The Greatest Story Ever Told, ect.) then, you are employing a double standard.

It saddens my heart to see so many Christians can not spot biblical error. I posted a lost of errors in this movie and asked for scripture to support them if you feel there are no errors, nothing wrong with this movie, but as of yet no one has been able to support them as being true.
If this movie is opening doors to talk with friends and family about Jesus, I have to wonder why you have waited till this movie? Did we have to have a dramatic emotional movie to tell people about Jesus? If salvation is about emotions it isn't biblical salvation, it isn't true salvation. I fear many are neglecting the truth of scripture and replacing it with this movie. Accepting stuff in it they would never have accepted from someone who would join this board and change and add to scripture like this movie.

Donna, be careful how you present what you are saying.

    1. I have not and will not use this movie as a tool of evangelism any more than making people read 'The life and times of Jesus the Messiah' by Alfred Edersheim.

    2. You have not presented any errors. You have presented some insertions to the story (which are just that).

    3. What is sad is that many Christians will whine and complain without any substance. So far the arguments have been extremely weak. Hey, I am one of the most anti-catholic people on this board. I hardly overlooked that.

No one needs to answer your list because we are not saying this is a scriptural word for word account but a portrayal, a movie about the last 24 hours of the life of Christ.

This reminds me of a former online friend who joined a church where the pastor tore hymns to pieces and demanded his church not sing the majority of hymns because they didn't exactly fit what he felt the Bible said. They ended up singing psalms or hymns the preacher wrote himself.

Donna, I had someone point out your posts when you first got home from the movie saying you liked it and were going to take your son later in the week.

Diane, several have said there is nothing in the movie that isn't in scripture. The list makes it obvious it isn't totally scroptural. And if anyone wanted to know truth they'd actually read some of what Emmerich wrote and know it is totally based on her writings.
I still like it, and I'm still going with my son. I never said I didn't like it, or that it was a bad movie. I have just seen so many who can't see anything it not biblical. Defending it as if it were as inerrant as scripture, as if it were scripture itself, who apparently can not tell the difference.

Daniel, the problem is there are people who think the added stuff is scripture. I've seen people on here who said the movie was 100% scripture with nothing wrong with it.

Donna, read my post again - I said:

"This movie is opening doors to talking to absolute strangers about Jesus Christ & having them be receptive to the Gospel - that in itself is awesome!"

I don't need an open door to talk to my family & friends about Jesus - in fact, most of them already KNOW HIM!

Yes, we are to spread the gospel but I challenge all of you who are so judgmental - when is the last time you walked up to a complete stranger & introduced them to Jesus? Ever?

This film is being talked about by the person who bags your groceries, the vet, your hairdresser, the teller at the bank - the strangers you don't know & now the door is being opened for even the shyest person to talk to a stranger about Jesus! That is awesome!

Talk to a stranger about Jesus, yes I have. I've talked to many strangers, and I didn't need a movie to urge me to do it.
Introduce them to Jesus? Do you mean they were saved?
Thats God's job, not mine, not yours.
It would be awesome if christians volunteered to go out share the gospel with anyone freinds, family, even strangers just out of obedience to God, not because of a movie. Now that would be awesome.

hmm, don't recall Edersheim imagining blood spurting out of his palms (stigmatistically!), bowing to Romish authority, or making up stuff abt what happened in Pilate's chambers n calling it all a god-given vision.

    o, but i guess i'm confusing it w Emmerich. ;)

I've heard this silly "there's nothing wrong with it" and "there's no biblical error in it" so many times. When you point out the abundant errors, changes, additions, deletions in the Passion movie, they say it's just Mel "filling in the gaps" or some such nonsense.

If I made a film about your dad, and added silly junk, deleted important details, and added gratuitious violence, you would be offended and say it was not accurate, and you did not appreciate my playing fast and loose with the facts. You might accuse me of disrespect.

But Mel can distort the life of Christ, and so many "Christians" rave about how great it is.

Do you mean movies, books, and sermons can throw in all kinds of silly nonsense when telling the blessed story of God's plan of salvation?

That's absurd to me, my brothers and sisters. Please think about what you're saying in your unquestioned zeal about a heretical film.

The devil as a woman? Jesus dangling from a chain over a cliff? The devil in Gethsemane rather than an angel strengthening Jesus? Constant panning to Mary who is "suffering with" Jesus, as Co-Redeemer with Christ? More lashings than is historically accurate? Pontius Pilate made to look like a nice guy, this butcher of Rome? Not a good tool for witnessing. Not at all.

vaspers, was that a serious post. I think you got confused by your own intentions.

    1. There are NO errors. Even in this post, you did not point out any. You only stated that their are.

    2. Christ did indeed endure severe violence. Do you deny that? Note that you can make an exhaustive movie about Christ. That would be impossible. Come on, it took almost 10 hours to put the Lord of the Rings books into movie form and that left alot of stuff out.

    3. Mel didn't distort anything. I have said numerous times that I do not think Mel is saved. I am highly ANTICATHOLIC. So, I have no agenda.

    4. The film is not heretical. Please point out just one ERROR for me or a false teaching that I must have missed.

    5. Satan is not presented as a woman. Get a clue.

    6. I would agree that Christ falling while chained is suspect, but by what authority do you say it didn't happen?

    7. Satan was there to tempt him. You don't know that didn't happen do you. I would never preach that it did, BECAUSE THE SCRIPTURES DO NOT SAY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

    8. Just because it doesn't mention the presense of the angels, doesn't mean he was trying to say they weren't there.

    9. Does the Bible say how many lashings Christ took? If not, back off your ridiculous claim.

    10. Pilate was portrayed perfectly. He was in a difficult position because of the Jewish leaders and because of Ceasar. Show a little historical knowledge before you pop off.

    11. I will NEVER use the film for evangelism.

    12. Can we have a serious discussion about this? Is this really all we get? A few disgruntled people who don't know what they are talking about trying to convince those of us who have seen the movie of all the errors.

What about when the men did not fall backwards to the ground when Christ says "I AM He" in the garden? BTW, how many men does the movie portray coming to take Jesus?

    Those are the ERRORS?

    Try again.

First, as I must continually point out, just because it doesn't show something, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I don't remember them showing his baptism either. Is that another of your little 'errors'?

How many men does the Bible say came a got Christ?

Sorry for jumping into this conversation w/o notice. I didn't realize it was such a hot-button issue with you. To me it seems like an error of ommision, especially when you consider that the scene is in the movie. If you don't think it's an error, no biggie. I was just wondering if you had considered that omission.

I guess I wasn't clear. I didn't intend to say it was an error. I just wanted to know about how many men the movie shows when they come to get Christ. John 18:3 says that a Roman Cohort (NAS wording; KJV uses the word, "band") came to take Jesus. According to the marginal note in my NAS, that's about 600 men, with lanterns, torches, and weapons. Pretty amazing to think that a mere spoken "I AM" would throw 600 Roman soldiers to the ground!
