Here are my notes from this week's Bible study.......

-THE DOCTRINE OF PRESERVATION- (5)

Continuing with a series of lessons on.....”the Bible’s preservation”!

LETS GO TO....... Matthew 5:18
====================================
-GOD’S MOST FAMOUS PROMISE....TO PRESERVE HIS WORD-
(Famous...because it’s the one most quoted
Matthew 5:18

-THE TRUTH ABOUT........“Jots” & “tittles”-
------------------------
➀“Jot”(Gk.“iota”) (The smallest letter of the Greek alphabet)
➁“tittle” (The smallest mark....making a Greek letter
(Like the “dot” over an “i”!)
------------------------
I remember my mom telling me....
“You be sure an pick up every iota of that mess!”
(And we didn’t even know...she was speaking Greek!)

-WHAT THE LORD MEANT.....BY THIS STATEMENT-
(God is not going to allow any part of His Word
To EVER be lost:
--------------------------------------------------
Therefore He is going to arrange..for His Word to be kept:
For every generation to come!

Matthew 5:17-19 -THE CONTEXT......OF THIS PROMISE-
(That will give us more light on this subject
====================================
V.17A “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets:”
-GOD’S PURPOSE.....IN THE DOCTRINE OF PRESERVATION-
(To keep the entire record of His Word intact

And this is Satan’s purpose...in his attack of the Word:
To get us to disregard it...as not perfectly preserved!

V.17B “I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”
-THE LORD’S RESPECT OF THE WORD...SHOULD REMIND US TO RESPECT IT-
Note: (Jesus fulfilled the law...by His perfect righteousness
He did everything according to the law!
-------------------------
In many instances...reinforcing it’s authenticity!
--------------------------------------------------
Yet today many professing Christians...reject it’s authenticity:
By simply refusing to believe it:
E.G. (Jonah’s experience....in the whale’s belly!)

V.18A “For” (Because)
-A WORD THAT LOCKS THE CONTEXT...BETWEEN V.17 & V.18-
(The reason...Jesus didn’t come to destroy the law
Was because of His promise to preserve it:

The Lord’s complete fulfilment of the law:
Depends upon...His faithfulness to preserve it!

V.18B “verily I say unto you,”
-A TRUTH...THE LORD PERSONALLY ESTABLISHES HIMSELF-
(That God’s Word....will be preserved
--------------------------------------------------
Sure enough....there are a lot of subjects:
That God’s Word is silent about:
------------------------
But this is not one of them!

V.18C “Till heaven and earth pass,”
-SOMETHING THAT WE CAN BUILD OUR LIVES UPON-
(Because everything else will pass away
Before it will:
--------------------------------------------------
This also talks about a.....”time limit”:
But we will talk about that later!

V.18D “one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law,”
-THE DEGREE IN WHICH ...GOD WILL PROTECT HIS WORD-
(He won’t allow even one word...to be lost
--------------------------------------------------
Therefore we should trust...every word:
To be EXACTLY....what the LORD wants us to have!

V.18E “till all be fulfilled.”
-THE PROPHETIC SIDE.....OF THIS DOCTRINE-
(God will continue to preserve His Word
To establish the accuracy.....of it’s prophecies:

Then.....when all is fulfilled:
It will have completed it’s work!

This is when we will all be living:
In a “new heaven” and a “new Earth”!

Note: This truth also....blows Preterism:
Plumb out of the water!

V.19A “Whosoever therefore”
-A CLEAR CONNECTION BETWEEN.....V.19 & THIS PASSAGE-
(Our acceptance or rejecting of the above promise
Will effect God’s opinion of us:

So we had better.....believe what Verse 18 says!

V.19B “shall break”
-WHAT THEY ARE DOING....WHEN PEOPLE REFUSE TO BELIEVE GOD’S WORD-
(They are breaking the Scriptures
“break” Lit.(unloose, put off, dissolve)

If you have “doubt” about ANY of the God’s Holy record:
You are “breaking” God’s Word!

V.19C “one of these least commandments,”
-SOMETHING THE LORD....WANTS TO MAKE CRYSTAL CLEAR-
(“Not one word will be lost:”)
--------------------------------------------------
This is directly connected...to His statement in V.18
“one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law”

We can trust the smallest details.....of God’s Word!
--------------------------------------------------
-THE POINT........BEING MADE HERE-
When people mess around with God’s Word:
They are removing details....of His commandments:
------------------------
Causing people....not to follow His complete instructions!

V.19D “and shall teach men so,”
-THE WAY PROFESSING CHRISTIANS....ARE CONVINCED TO DOUBT GOD’S WORD-
(The are “taught” to
By unbelieving teachers & preachers & scholars!

Millions of Christians will have to give an account:
For spreading DOUBT about God’s Word:
When they stand before the Lord..at the judgement!

V.19E “he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven:”
-GOD’S OPINION.....OF THE DOUBTERS WE LOOK UP TO-
(Some Christians call them...Giants of the faith

But God calls them...“least in the kingdom of heaven”:
Because they spread doubt about God’s Word!

V.19F “but whosoever shall do and teach [them],”
-THE RESULT.....OF TRUSTING GOD’S WORD UNCONDITIONALLY-
(We will be pillars of faith
--------------------------------------------------
Pointing others to the truth:
About our perfectly preserved Bible!

V.19G “the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
-GOD’S PRAISE.....FOR EVERYONE WHO TRUSTS HIS WORD-
(Among believers...we will be called “great”
--------------------------------------------------
But most people...will think that we are crazy!
