If that be a pun, it might weigh a ton . . .

    lol, funny.

(However, it was in leiu of a raise over the 7 years we've been here. But if we had gotten a raise, I doubt if we could have saved enough for a truck. So it really is worth a ton. :)) We were very pleasantly surprised.

I got a really pretty card from a couple in my church as well as taken out for dinner. Then the church is having a potluck the last sunday of the month in honor of Pastor Appreciation and in the past they have given me a monetary gift.

Our church gave me several cards, a monetary love gift and two 9th row center court tickets to a Suns game. We are extremely grateful.

Our pastor, music minister, and I (youth & education) each got a card signed by everyone in attendance that Sunday along with a round of applause. We would have gotten a free meal out of the deal too but we already had planned to eat with my folks to celebrate my dad and sister's birthdays.

Around these parts, Pastor appreciation is the same as the Pastors anniversary. The hold a speaciel service honoring the Pastor each year on the Sunday he was installed.

We even have a Pastors Aid committee who work all year toward this event.

I got a lovely book from one of my SS teachers titled

    Walking God's Path

The Life & Ministry of Jimmy Draper by John Perry

I appreciate that gift!!! I collect authors---autobiographies, and biographies of SBC Pastors, Christian College Football coaches, and Christian athletes!! (hint-hint)

I had just preached a really hard sermon on church discipline and it ran long. I did not even realize it was pastor appreciation day. But the chairman of our deacons had asked to come up and make an announcement at the end of the service. He was acting kinda of funny and I generally do not feel good about it when anyone simply asks to make an announcement without indicating what they are going to talk about. But when they do not indicate it is usually better not to ask. So at the end of the service he came up and recognized my wife and me. My wife said that when we were up there she prayed Lord could you make it a $300 gift because we had a $300 light bill this last month. Sure enough it was $300. God is good and the prayers of a faithful woman availeth much.

We got a lot of grief and a little bit of heart ache! Just kidding! Our folks here have been so wonderful and a blessing to us since our arrival, that this month could pass without any special recognition and we wouldn't even notice it.

I am no longer a pastor, but am a member of a church other than the one I pastored. At this new church I preach occasionally, teach a class on Wednesday nights and, when I am not out preaching someplace, play the organ on a volunteer basis. I was made very aware that we were having Pastor Appreciation Sunday because my wife is a member of the Landscaping Team and had shared in the plans to purchase some shrubbery and present it in honor of our pastor. I was scheduled to preach elsewhere, and noted that my wife was quite insistent that I drive to our church after I finished, so that I could "participate in Joel's recognition".

I did so, and found out why she was so insistent. The church also honored me as their favorite substitute preacher! Homemade cards from the children and "my" shrub, too! Lovely to be recognized even when you do not expect it or think you deserve it.

Only problem is that today I am also expected to go over there with my wife and dig the blessed shrubs in!

What a great idea. We buy the shrubs, name them in honor of someone and let them plant it!

I received more cards and a gift card for a Christian Book Store!

Since my birthday is in October, there is usually a combination birthday/appreciation covered-dish dinner. There are usually many cards, and a gift. They're kind of tight-lipped about it and spring it on us, but after 4 birthdays here, I can begin to read them.

The other thing is that they all wear badges the entire month with my picture on it and the words "we appreciate you pastor Gary." Some of the pictures get "customized" as the month goes on. I wear one with a picture of the church, and it says, "I appreciated you Newport Baptist Church."
