I was watching an interview with one of the sick and twisted family members tonight on H & C, and I think I might have figured out the answer to my question about them. It bothered me greatly that they claimed Calvinism and twisted it to preach hatred. I decided about a week ago to look at their website and see what they teach. Some of it is actually in line with what some of the Bible teaches...but, as they say, even a dead clock is right twice a day.

The answer came to me when she was praising God for his wrath against the UnGodly Americans like us, and Hannity asked her what sins she had committed. She got mad and refused to answer. Therefore, I think I understand the difference between her and me. She doesn't think she has ever sinned. I know I have. Thoughts?

I saw the same thing just a few minutes ago watching the overnight replay.

She seemed kind of shocked at 1st,(when Sean asked what her sins were) and then said something like "Oh, you tried that the last time we talked", and then went back to her spewing.

I would think that after a while they would grow weary of constantly condemning, hating, condemning, hating, condemning, hating, etc...

*Some* of the things they say might be true, but my goodness there is a right and wrong way to present that truth.

Sort of like the guy who murdered the abortion doctor.

YES, abortion is murder. But NO, you do not murder the doctor.

Interesting post, Joseph. Maybe she thinks they're perfecti like some of the medieval Cathars. Assuming that they think they are, does that mean they claim to be on a par with God? Maybe that would account for all their desire for smiting sinners - they think that because the OT in particular has God going round doing a lot of that, they're entitled to do the same. They're in for a shock when they meet Jesus, I guess.

They are just hard core legalists, Matt. Very hard core.

With you being in England and all, are you familiar with them over there?

Phreaky Phred Phelps and his slack-jawed gene pool? Yes, I know about them; there was a story on them on Sky (Murdoch's UK version of Fox) News a few months ago. His most recent high-profile antic of which I'm aware was to call for the picketing of the West Virginia miners' funerals.

    I can't write about him further on a family-friendly BB, I'm afraid.

I remember when they were ranting that the Bonfire Tragedy at Texas A&M was our punishment for allowing homosexuals in our midst.

I wish the media would stop giving air time to such hate filled people.

I call that a "God and Me" complex. Rather than one thining of himself before God as a sinner first, then going forth into the world with God's message, it's like it's God and them on the same side against the "sinners". And Phelps is like that too, but also many radical and even moderate KJVO and separatist types as well. And I would imagine "stopsinning.com" as well. And when you mix Calvinism into it, it becomes a deadly mix, because they can just claim "I'm perfect because I'm elect. You cay you can't be perfect? That's because you must be reprobate". They can use all of the scriptures the Campbellists and other works-salvation advocates here use regarding "perfection" and "perseverance", and if you can't do it; you're just not "elect" like them. The same with notions of doctrinal perfection. (Do you all remember Darwin Fish, and his follower who used to post here? And also Outside the Camp, most of the more familiar "cults", and some of the KJVO types get like that too).

Thank you, Chemnitz. This is the bloke who came to Canada and set about to put us straight. He was eventually barred from entry to Canada and sent his sons and daughters to carry placards in front of our parliament.

    Got it now, thanks,

    Cheers,

    Jim

Yes, this is indeed sad but I am even more saddened by the reproach that they bring upon the precious Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Could anybody just tell me a little about this group please? I never heard of it. What do they do, kill people who disagree with them or something?

I read all the posts on here but still dont see a clue about what this group does.

I know what you mean about how it feels when a nutcase group attaches itself to your church and then everybody automatically assumes your entire denomination is that way.

Im a SDA and the David Koresh guy and their group had absolutely nothing to do with my church and it was awful having to live with that stigma for so long afterwards.

I used to live in Texas about an hour away from Waco when that happened and we went up to that town nearby "Elk" I think it was, and asked some of the people at the restaurants and stuff what the Davidians were like and they said every morning theyd line up all the kids in army outfits and march around with guns.

and so because of that, lots of people assumed... well ok, if you become a SDA you will end up like that, which of course was absolutely stupid.

But if people dont know any better thats what they assume... and yes unbelievers sometimes will just also assume all Christians are that way too.

So far I got that they must live in England? and they advocate that you should stop sinning?

    OR WHAT??

I just finished looking at Fred Phelps's web site, godhatesamerica.com, and have concluded that guy is certifiable! He rejoiced at Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma, hopes that the death toll in Iraq will rise to 222,288, that Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and Coretta Scott King are in hell, and counted off the days that Matthew Shepherd has been in hell.

If he thinks hurricanes are so great, maybe he should move to the Gulf Coast. Oh, wait a minute! I just remembered that hurricanes are strengthened by hot air! Never mind.

Certifiable is exactly what he is! He has also given the enemy great cause for celebration du to the harm he does to the kingdom.

    Claudia,

This guy is a hatemonger...I know that word is thrown around a bunch these days, but he truly hates all sinners.

He has an intense hatred and venom for gays...in Phelps' world, they are the problem with everything in America. He spends most of his time telling gays that God hates them and wants them all in hell.

He is a nutbag, pure and simple. Most of his "church" (which is a group that goes around causing trouble whenever possible) has been sired by Phelps himself. You'd be hard pressed to find a more hating, angry, and bitter person.

He, and his "church" are everything you'd ever wish your church to not be known for. They serve as fodder for media to lampoon real Christians, and they are notorious publicity hounds. I keep hoping they'll go away...probably won't happen until Phelps can't father any more children.

No, we are not burdened with Freddy's presence over here in England - a fact for which I thank God.

Incidentally - I've heard this point made elsewhere - if God is still in the business of smiting people for immorality, then one is forced to conclude that His aim is rather awry, since He has never managed to total Las Vegas...Hmmm...food for thought for Fred...if indeed Fred was capable of rational thought...which I sorely doubt.

Can't we set him up for a bare-knuckle fight to the death with that Iranian chappie? We could market it as 'Battle of the Loonies'
