I heard a preacher make a statement saying the love of a Christian husband and wife in this life will be no more when they get to heaven because this type love is a fleshly love and will end at the grave. As I was thinking about this statement I thought of all the Christian mothers that have lost infant babies. Would there not be a desire to see these babies when the mother goes to heaven ? The mindset of the preacher that made this statement is that all Christians will continually worship the Lord forever and ever around the throne of God. I know there are more wild idea's about what goes on in heaven than what people can back up by scripture but wouldn't heaven be heaven not only to worship the King of Kings but also to see our loved ones ? or is the stranger in heaven that we have never met on earth have the same status with us as our mothers, fathers, and children ?

I think there will be a perfection in love and that the love and bonds we have with our closest family will extend to all people. We do speculate about what the Eternal State will be like, but we keep in mind that there will be a New Heavens and Earth, so our existence will be a perfect state which resembles this fallen creation. I don't see it as standing around the Throne of God for eternity, but an existence in which I speculate will have a normalcy (if that can be said, lol) of existence, again, similar to our current existence, yet perfect and as God originally created the universe (but better).

As to physical relations, we will be like the Angels who do not marry. This was taught in relation to conditions now, and implies cessation, but I am not sure we can be dogmatic about that. It may be that due to the mess mankind makes of marriage in this existence, marriages now will not be in place, but, I think this is an area where we should be careful to point out we can only speculate beyond what the Word tells us.

And I will throw this in, and list it as sheer speculation on my part: we see a similarity between God's creation of Angels and our own. Today, Angels minister to men, and I have speculated that God may do a "new work" and that we, as glorified beings, may minister in this New Work.

I do think we will minister among men in the Millennial Kingdom.

    God bless.

We are not given much information, but I think it is safe to say that we will experience the true and fullest fellowship with each other that will make the intimacy of marriage pale by comparison.

First thing to point out is that resurrection is the end state for humankind. We will have resurrected bodies and live upon the earth (and possibly beyond) when the heavens (where God rules completely) and earth (where others have previously ruled to some level) become fully integrated. It appears that things will be restored to the way they were created to be (Genesis 1-2) except that all those who are in God's economy are people who have voluntarily and personally chosen to be there, and through participation in God's rule (aka, the Kingdom of God) have had their characters redeemed.

Is specific and intentional worship involved? Sure. Is a lifestyle of worship involving creative work (exercising the dominion of Genesis 1) a major part of eternal existence? Absolutely. That's what reigning with Christ is about.

A Calvinist complaining because God isn't fair. Priceless.

There are two different things going on here which are more in contrast than they are comparable. The husband and wife relationship and will it carry forward into eternity. Then there is the relationship between the parent and the child.

However, I see nothing wild about anything you have said thus far and I know that those ideas are taken from scripture:

Mat 22:23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,
Mat 22:24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
Mat 22:25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
Mat 22:26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
Mat 22:27 And last of all the woman died also.
Mat 22:28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
Mat 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Mat 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

And what of the man who had six brothers?

The only marriage in Heaven is the marriage of the Lamb to the church. There is no male or female.

As far as natural affections? They're burned up. We will feel no pity for the souls in hell, even if they were very dear to us while on earth. Quite the contrary. We will rejoice and wash our feet in their blood.

There is only one affection, that for the Son, and those whom He loves.

My grandfather once said concerning the many views by different preachers on how many resurrections there will be and the pre-million, post-million, A-million view, just be ready for whatever comes. My post was not meant as a complaint but as a learning tool. Thanks for all the reply's except for InTheLight, he can go chase a skunk which is a Pole cat down south.

Can you think of any post by ITL where he said anything of substance:laugh:

    Now concerning the OP-

We have been so affected and infected by sin that even what we consider great delights are mostly tainted by sinful, fleshly thoughts.

For example if you took 100 random persons.....even church persons and asked them for their thoughts of what it is they desire or what it is that would be an ideal situation the responses would be predominately naturally based thoughts based on the physical sights and senses.

Vacation destinations...foods...sexual things...sports and other amusements.

    yet we are told this....
    Isaiah 64King James Version (KJV)

64 Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,

2 As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!

3 When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.

4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

    then here;

    1cor2;
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Now paul expands on the verse in isa 64....the indication is we are to meditate on what revealed truth we do have and understand that we only see in part now......we only have a few glimpses into the heavenly realm and that is contained in the scriptures alone.

we of all people are to search and work in the scriptures and see with spiritual eyes what can be .....

    Psalm 1King James Version (KJV)

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

We are to start with the revealed Lord and King...rev 4,5......Jesus ruling from the heavenly throne right now.....

We start by studying the current reign and revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ. His sttributes and the excellency of his Divine person...all the "other " things will be added unto us.....

I used to worry about that but I don't any more because it is in Gods hands and he always does right... How can we mortals understand the things of God unless they are revealed to us by the Holy Spirit?... But I do know this:

I Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him... I heard a minister say one time some people feel that Heaven will be one continuous Church service?... He said I disagree... Heaven will exceed way beyond our wildest imagination and we will be satisfied... I believe that too!... Brother Glen
