Haven't got it yet, but soon.....

But I do have the Coltrane/Monk disc released last year, at Carnegie. If you like Monk, check out "Straight, no Chaser". Charlie Rouse has a much sweeter & more melodic tone than Coltrane's manic style.

    free jazz

I really like free form music: Peter Brotzmann, John Coltrane(his later stuff), Pharoah Sanders, Cecil Taylor etc. It is jazz but with no structure, totally improvised. I like gregorian chant. I love to sing the psalms (Im Reformed of course), I LOVE the old hymns.

I'm listening to a Blood, Sweat, & Tears concert from 1974. I always loved that band.

    Good stuff.

    Coltrane was the man!
Well, at least one of them....

I only had one disc with me on this trip, and it is a greatest hits compilation by Anita Baker. I was introduced to Kansas City traffic this morning (specifically, the bypass that circles the city) and listened to it from start to finish.............. twice. Anita has the voice of an angel.

The Cowboy Junkies are in Richmond next week, but I will be in Memphis and Little Rock. I really hate that I am going to miss them, but they are going to play Wolftrap this year, so I might make the trip up to Vienna.

Speaking of Wolftrap, Peter Paul & Mary are going to be there in August. Are you and the wife up for a trip to Washington, DC? They play on a Saturday, and Arlo Guthrie and Richie Havens play the following Sunday. I can pick you up at the airport - Reagan, Dulles, BWI, or even Richmond!

    Regards,
    BiR

I'll be in Seattle in August to see a few Red Sox games, and that's our summer budget, sorry.

I met Arlo Guthrie about 20 years ago, he was actually a very caring & empathetic guy. And very funny. I've seen Richie Havens a number of times, but I'm not a huge fan. You are also correct about Anita Baker. I have two of the Junkie's CDs, but don't listen much. They never grabbed me.

    But I wouldn't walk across the street to hear P,P, & M. Sorry, I think they're rediculous.

Go see the movie "A Mighty Wind", it's the Spinal Tap of folk. Hilarious.

Sorry: I missed this Bro. Curtis.
Here in Memphis there is an AirAmerica affiliate, so I don't have to rely on my XM2GO.
I can hear it all the way to Little Rock.

I recently changed my phone and internet service to Time Warner - and upgraded my TV to HD and digital.

Time Warner has a music channel - Blue Grass only - I often have that playing when I am reading sappy love stories!

Now if only Time Warner would have a Southern Gospel only channel!

Darcel McCoy. You can find his stuff through Faith Music Missions.

He recorded 3 solo albums that I know of, and one with his family. Unfortunately he was killed by a drunk driver in 2001.

If you enjoy strong voices with a piano, this guy is excellent. Another one that FaithMusicMissions does that is similar with the piano and strong voice is David Owens. I highly recommend both.
