Rubato 1 asked about starting a sermon thread, so I thought I'd start one.

I began going through Exodus last week. The series will probably last 4 months, which is long for our Sunday morning series.

What are you guys preaching on?

Sunday AM I am in a series entitled "Renewing Our Passion for God" that is going through Romans 5-8. This week I am in Romans 6:1-11.

Sunday PM we do not have the traditional preaching time in our service. We have a discussion about the text from the morning service and about how we can better apply that text and teaching to our daily lives. It was something I incorporated in my DMin project and the church really enjoyed it and asked to keep it. It has turned out to be a really good thing.

Because my family has a small hunting lodge in Maine I have been asked to preach at a "wild Game Supper". Here is my outline for that.
Psa 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

Why would a hart (deer) yearn for water?
    1. For Refreshment 2. For Rejuvenation 3. For Refuge

Here is something on the "Cities of Refuge" Josh.20
Principle for capital punishment, Gen.6:9, however God made a provision for someone accidentally taking the life of another. These cities were:
    1. Divinely Appointed, 20:1,2, IPet.1:20
    2. For the Guilty, 20:11,12 Rom.3:9-23
    3. Way was clearly revealed, 20:7-9 Acts 4"12
    4. Accessible to all, 20:15 IIPet.3:9
    5. To be entered without Delay, 20:6 IICor.6:1,2
    6. Only Hope for the Guilty, 20:12 John 3:17-19, 36
    7. Safet there until the High Priest died, Heb.9:11-15 16,17
    8. Stocked well with provisions for life! Phil.4:19

However if they didn't get into the city they would perish. David said "Died Abner as a fool dieth"

Only problem with a "type" they break down. God has told us the we are guilty! And the wages of our sin is death!

But you want something to get you shouting......read, Luke 23:34!

Preach this fellows, it will bless your heart!

Just finished a series called "gr8ful"--deals with living a life of thankfulness (3 weeks).

About to start a month-long series starting mid-February called "waiting." Deals w/sexuality, etc.

In between, we're gonna do 4 weeks on the Sermon on the Mount.

    (my target audience: teenagers)

Our church is working through the Outflow evangelism series... we are doing it church wide, so every sermon, lesson, small group, and youth meeting we are all on the same page... Then on Feb 2 we are going to Clarksburg for a state super-event in which we will meet the author of the book, and he will put on a seminar.

This is the best evangelism series I have ever seen, and I think I have seen them all!!!
It is a natural way to evangelize, without teaching people steps to try to convince people to win souls... Most series I have seen seem too much like a salesman's approach.. you approach a stranger, start a conversation, move to religion, then Romans road, then the closer.. .Rom. 10:9-10... This one starts with us... and when we are filled up, we will flow out to others....

Here is the link to the book/series... http://store.grouppublishing.com/OA_...&section=10710
We ordered ours through amazon.. the books were like $11. And everyone in church has one, and is reading their daily readings...

What an amazing thing it has been...
Our whole state convention (WVBC) is doing the series together...
    (Well, most churches are)

for those of us who have a blog, it might be good to follow TCGreek's example and post our outlines. It would probably help our people to be able to see them.

This coming Sunday I conclude a four-week series on, "What's Worth Caring About Here?" The design has been to get the members of this church, some of them dejected by the departure of their long-time pastor, other scared of the financial crunch ahead, to consider what they value in their church, who they value, what their dreams are, and to what they will commit. My closing message is from Psalm 142 ( .... no man cares for my soul) to ask them to acknowledge the consequences if we do not care enough to share the Gospel.

We will distribute cards on which we will ask people to commit to some aspects of "time, talent, treasure, and truth".

Some have mentioned putting sermon outlines on their blogs. I do not run a blog, but I post full texts on SermonCentral.com. Interesting to see what other preachers are doing.

I have just finished a series "Great David and His Greater Son", drawing on various aspects of David's life, and seeing how much more fully they appear in our glorious Saviour. Now I have started a series on Ecclesiastes.

Wednesdays I am preaching / teaching the General Baptist Statement of Faith. I have three weeks left then I will start a series on Romans.

Since I have only preached on Sunday's twice I don't really have anything going for that. The Pastor is going to be gone for a couple of weeks in March so I will soon get my chance to see what it's like to preach Sunday Morning and Night. I better get to work NOW!

I am still praying about where God will call me - please join me in that :) But, whether starting my own or going to an existing one, I have started a number of series in outline form - indeed, that's what I started doing when I found myself too anxious to see what God would do, instead of waiting on Him:

    1. 5 W's and an H - a series mostly for if I was starting one, based on those elements beginning journalists learn. It would be, in some order: Who are these Christians (talking about what we believe - Mark 2:1-10 with perhaps Ephesians 2:8-10 also); What is Truth (or faith or maybe something else); Where did the Bible come from (2 Peter 1:19-21); When will Jesus return (various verses on the Rapture and Tribulation, also emphasizing that Israel is still God's chosen people); Why Do bad Things Happen (undecided, a couple possible verses); and, How do I get to Heaven (straight evangelistic, though the others will be, too; I figure there might be few people who come, then they start inviting visitors, to build up to this one)

I've also started outlining a series on the life of Abraham called "living by faith," about 10-12 parts, one on prayer, just trying to narrow it down is tough (maybe I'll end up using the Lord's Prayer as a guide - there are *so* many good prayers in the bible); a series of revival messages on Jesus based out of Isaiah 9:6 and the names of Jesus (for if we have a weeklong revival series); and am contemplating which book I might wish to preach through. If a beginning church, maybe Ephesians; if an already established church, not sure.
