"Streams in the Desert"...I try to read it every day,and heartily recommend it to people who are going through trials.

And, "Scarlet Feather" by Maeve Binchy. She's one of my favorite secular authors. She is an Irish writer who has a breezy,no-frills style, but very absorbing stories and believable characters. I just started this one yesterday...checked it out of the library.

My 15-year-old daughter is reading C.S. Lewis' "The Screwtape Letters" for a school book report. This is the first Lewis book she's read other than the Chronicles of Narnia, and she's loving it. I've never read it myself, and plan to do so when she finishes it.

Is this a new thread? It seems a bit familiar somehow...

On my nightstand: My Bible, My Journal, Giving Christ First Place, No stone Unturned by Maggie Kuhn, Echoes by Maeve Binchy, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells, Souls Perfection by Sylvia Browne and Constantine's Sword by James Carroll. It's not that tall of a stack....honest. [IMG]

Cindy, let me know how you like Scarlett Feather, I have it, but haven't read it yet... would love to hear your thoughts on it beforehand....don't you just love her? She's a very likeable author.

The Fox by D. H. Lawrence
The Seed Handbook: The Feminine Way to Create Business by Lynne Franks

    And, because I've been working:

A Theory of Justice by John Rawls
    Political Liberalism by John Rawls
Christ and Culture by H. Richard Niebuhr
Inferno by Dante Alighieri (Longfellow translation)
    Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio
The Second Treatise of Government by John Locke
    Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes
On Liberty by John Stuart Mill
The Subjection of Women by John Stuart Mill
Discipline and Punish by Michel Foucault

The other Foucault's still there, too. He's a tough read.

I get so criss-crossed when I'm doing research. I don't often do too much hard study in bed, but this past week it's turned into a very comfy desk - papers and books all over. Some of these books are actually on the bed. [IMG]

Growing in Grace, by Bob George which I am currently reading.

Grace by Lewis Sperry Chafer will be on my nightstand next, as it is next on my reading list.

Others that I keep close by:

Classic Christianity By Bob George. (I have to keep rebuying that one, I keep giving mine away)
What Love is This? By Dave Hunt
In Defense of the Faith By Dave Hunt
The Forgotten Trinity By James White

Of course we often have our Bibles on our nightstand for my husband and I sometimes read before we go to bed, but our Bibles never stay in one place very long. [IMG]

Nobody mentioned Louie L'Amour. I enjoy his books as light reading before sleep. Of course the Readers Digest is always read there, just finished December today.

I am currently reading Samuel Rutherford and his Friends by Faith Cook, and Spiritual Leadership by J. Oswald Sanders. [IMG]

Add to that anything by Costain (loved historical novels) and Civil War history and fiction. That keeps me busy. [IMG]

Have you read the paperback about Robert E. Lee from his horse's perspective? It is a good read:

    Traveller by Richard Adams

cover note: "A fascinating tale of confederate General Robert E. Lee, his legendary horse, and the war between the states...."

    Cheers,

    Jim

I have long been fascinated with Civil War history. We spent 8 summers at Gettysburg, and enjoyed seeing 3 re-enactments on July 1st-3rd.
