    "what constitutes a good Christian?"

There are many posts asking what our thoughts are on Pat Roberts or Benny hinn, or TD Jakes and it seems as many are always critizizing them for every little thing they do or say wrong. If someone was watching you and recording you 24/7and I mean watching you when no one is there, when you surf on the net for things you shouldnt, when you curse or scream at the customer service rep you called, when you curse even when you shouldnt, when you scream at your wife or husband and threat them with disrespect, when you spank your children and verbally abuse those you love, when your job gives you 15 mins break and you take 20, ext!!!!! If someone were to post and critizize you for every mistake we all make as Christians how would you feel?? So the question is

    "what constitutes a good Christian?"

I'm not yet ready to answer the OP, but are you saying that spanking children is wrong? Are you saying that those who spank their children aren't good Christians?

No let me say it in other terms. When you spank your kids in Anger. When you hit your kids and you dont do it in a Christian manner. Thats wrong. I apologize and dont think that. I am still trying to learn how to write english the proper way. Sorry... But I know many Christians that hit their kids for any reason. Any reason and thats wrong. There is a right way to do things and a wrong way.

There is no "good Christian". We are all sinners saved by the grace of God. These men, however, are heretics who teach false doctrine which goes against the Bible, not the least of which is the WOF heresy. If they were to repent of their heresy, I would see them in a different manner. Thus far, they have not.

I agree that most of these men at times are very heretic and say some weird stuff. Its good that we always keep it real and point out false prophets but some people just spend too much time pointing out others faults and never look at theirs. Thats what I mean but I get your point.

I think there are faithful, obedient, overcoming Christians, so I guess those would be considered "good" Christians. But there are also unfaithful, disobedient, non-overcoming Christians as well unfortunately!

So if you want to see what a "good" Christian is you can look up what is associated with faithfulness, obedience and overcoming and then you will have your answer, but that's a good chunk of the NT, so it may take a while :)

Now What "what constitutes a good Christian?"

God is so awesome!! The holy spirit of God convicts our hearts when we are doing something we shouldnt. I know for one that everytime I am about to do something that maybe I shouldn’t I feel constricted by the Holy Spirit, its like a " Man that’s wrong kind of feeling " most of the time I listen to it but I agree sometimes I honestly don’t. Like when I sometimes go to the store and the cashier is being nasty or rude, instead of me listenting to the Holy Spirit and staying Quiet, I start talking stupidity.

Now the question is What Constitutes a good Christian? Well, God Knows you are not perfect that’s number one because if you were Perfect he wouldn’t have had to give his son for you. So he knows that you are a sinner and he loves you so much that he was willing to make a sacrifice to save you and I SINNERS. Adam and Eve had two sons Cain and Abel at one point in time they would offer sacrifices to God. Well Abel went and gave God his best and with all his heart. It wasn’t much but it was his best and it was from the heart. Cain gave way better offering but they werent from the Heart.

There are many like you say that Go to Church to waste their time. God isnt looking for a nice suit or beautiful dress. God is looking for your best. If your best is preaching with a Jc Penny Shirt and Wall Mart pants like I did then that’s my best for God at this point in time and you saw that God Moved. He is not looking for you to be perfect or for you to be spotless….all that will come in due time as long as you take it day by day by day and not worry about tomorrow. If you take your Christian Walk on a day by day basis and you just worry about Giving God your best today. Example: Today I will try not to curse, I will give God my best to try not to Curse. Today I will not judge someone, Today I will say God Bless to at least one person, Today I will hug my child, Today I will make a difference and not settle in worrying on tomorrow because I will never be perfect but as long as I am doing my best for GOD and making a difference and trying my best not to sin… that will constitute a good Christian person.

    Thanks tali

If you are going to put yourself in the Public Eye, then there should be a 100% effort to act, think, and speak beyond reproof. If you can't handle the heat, then please get out of the kitchen.

I feel you!! I understand your point but its not only them who have to put a 100% effort to act, think, and speak beyond reproof. Its also us and my thing is if we are asking them to give 100% perfection everytime they say something.. My question is Are we asking 100% effort to act, think, and speak beyond reproof and if we are not asking our self that before we critizize every single word coming out of someones mouth that we are being ignorant because you cant give what you dont have. Ex: If I am a foul mouth and I lie from time to time and I say Its ok because they are little lies. How dare I say.. " Ohh this preacher or that one said this and that and he lied and this and that EXT.....

I agree they should give 100%%% you are right.

Question is are we giving 100%%% for Christ as well?????

No we are not. And we never will. To be 100% is to be perfect and only Jesus is perfect. We are called to imitate him. That is the best we can do. There are very few people( less than 1% of 1% ) out there at actually may topple the 90% mark.

The only public figure I know that may have achieved the above 90% mark is that Catholic Nun named "Mother Teresa". She gave a 100% effort in taking care of those that our Christian Society discarded and chose not to take care of. She gave these people some human dignity when they were dieing of AIDS, Tubercolosis, Hepatitus, etc, etc, etc. She hugged every single dieing person every time she saw them even at the risk of her own life. Most of us on the other hand would have run in the opposite direction instead of giving a God-given show of love via a hug.

That is what being a real christian is like. Taking care and loving the least of these.

If Teresa is the epitome of a christian, then the vast majority of us fall very short....very short....very short....

You did a good job of answering your own question, tali. Keep growing in knowledge, wisdom, and strength, ever aware that it is the Holy Spirit working within you. Continue in your love for Him. Enjoy, celebrate, share your zeal for following in His footsteps.

There is a very good reason why people should criticize preachers. They are supposed to be good leaders for the church, but many of them set very bad examples with false teachings and/or immoral behavior. Listen to this audio clip of TV preacher Kenneth Copeland, for example:

Hello, Good Afternoon. I hope you didnt think I was saying that we are going to be 100% perfect or that we should try to be perfect. I was trying to say that we should all try our 100% best everyday for God. We all fail everyday of course but at least if we are giving our best then God will give his best as well.

    What constitutes a Christian?

In Karl Barth's words: "Faith DESPITE"! In other words: The realisation of his unworthiness to claim or to be called a Christian. To pray, "O God, be merciful upon me a sinner!" and to believe it.

No sir, from the records of her fellow-sisters.

In any case, a religion of works and the boasting accompanying aren't palatable. Last night - on the Sabbath's evening of 'Friday night - I viewed a program that featured Gary Player - have never seen the like in sounding one's own trumpet. Same principle with mT.
