"CNN) -- The Jesus plastered on the cover of this month's Popular Mechanics has a broad peasant's face, dark olive skin, short curly hair and a prominent nose. He would have been 5-foot-1-inch tall and weighed 110 pounds, if the magazine is to be believed. ..."

What do you boardfolk think? Is this the way Jesus looked? I would say, probably so. Does it matter?

Since the New Testament does not describe him, and no contemporary drawings exist, it is impossible to know exactly what Jesus looked like. Probably his appearance was that of a normal Jewish man of that era, although John 18:5-6 suggests that he had a commanding presence. There's just no way to know for sure.

He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

    Isa. 53:2.

Ralph, as you rightly say, does it matter?

I don't think it necessarily matters either.

But, I have a hard time with the blonde haired blue eyed big white Jesus, too.

I don't have a problem with the picture though. Could have been a driver's license day. :D

It is likely that Jesus did have olive skin. However as far as his facial / body features go who knows. Perception is up to anyone. There are some people whom at Easter bleed from the middle of their hands, yet in a physical sense it is more likely that the nails went in his wrists or close to. Yet people choose to percieve that it was in another way, and that is quite o.k.

I agree with the short hair and beard... because art from early christians in the catacombs have a Jesus with short hair and beard... but I don't think the weight and height are correct... I see him six feet and in the 200 pound catagory! I see a pretty buffed muscular carpenter and he definately wasn't puny.

There was a fellow named Zacheaus who was of small stature and had to climb a tree to see him because the crowd was obstructing his view. Maybe he was 5'1" tall... Then again I wasn't there so it really doesn't matter. I can tell you what he looked like... He looked like LOVE! [IMG] ... Brother Glen [IMG] [IMG]
