In 1881, my home church in its founding documents said it held to the doctrines held by the Regular Baptists and then added some further foundational principles due to the local situation (such as no pew rents, the preaching of the Gospel was to be free to all). However, they used Regular Baptist the same way as it is used in the title of the GARBC (though we are not a GARBC church).

So, I am a Historic Northern Baptist. I consider myself to be Historic rather than Fundamental as my spiritual DNA was fundamental before fundamentalism was fun. As to my organizational affiliations, I fellowship with the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship, International (a break a way from the Northern/American Baptist Convention).

In practice, this means me and mine haven't had any truck with what is now the SBC since the break up of the Baptist Triennial Convention on Missions in the 1830s.

Raised as Southern Baptist, married into Missionary (ABA) Baptist, now just a plain ol'independent Independent Baptist.

Ya know - I guess I should have given mine too, since I did ask the question, after all. [IMG]

I'm an Independent Fundamental Baptist (IFB).

Squire... you and Dr. Bob always tootin the "historic" Fundamental Baptist horn... guess you must be a history buff and.... the umm.. man to go to for History information on this board. My professor for Early N.T. History was the MOST boring teacher (and even worse at preaching). Hope you fare better than he did.

    um here goes...
Catholic father and Primitive Baptist mom (hard-shell five point tulip sniffer). Mostly, even though I attended the Baptist church more often, I was a true Catholic, thought it was the right religion and mom's religion just a redneck offshoot.
Mom turned Missionary Baptist in '57, with BMA. I sat in church for about 21 years without really understanding what was said (progressive deafness until profoundly deaf at 15). Met an interpreter at a friends house and was inivited and attended an SBC church. Went to seminary in New Orleans and left the SBC for Independent Fundamental in about '91, still worked with SBC folks. In 1994, I pretty much was shunned by the SBC folks and stuck with IFB since.

Oh, and Squire, I was a little surprised to find a few American Baptists down here in New Orleans. They never did really do well in the south I guess? Interesting.
