Several days ago I noticed after logging on to the internet the cursor would not function for 3-5 seconds regardless of what I did with the mouse. Yesterday got notice from Norton of a security breech that they repaired, now the problem is gone.

Sounds like the bug was busy with your computer resources and blocking the cursor movement.

You might do a full scan with your anti virus software and be sure it didn't do something.

May have just been snooping or something as well.

If norton reported a particular virus or worm their site lists current items on their site and what they do.

I'd also check for Spyware. My cursor has frozen when a Java program is slow loading. Next time it freezes, Control, Alt, Delete and see what programs are running or trying to load.

I'm really not smart on computers, but if I had a bad bug wouldn't the problem be continueous, not just a few seconds after I log on and then be normal for the rest of the session?

Norton already fixed the problem when I was notified. Everything operating OK.

This is what I'm thinking, somebody installed software to monitor my activity?

I have free spyware software installed from Ad-aware and Spybot Search but they only detect spyware after it's on my computer. Anti Virus programs are unable to prevent spyware so today I bought CounterSpy from www.sunbelt-software.com that prevents spyware from installing. Top rated and only $20. I recommend those concerned to check the site. If you do let us know what you think.

My thought was that it might have been installing, scanning, or maybe changing files. Just a guess. The only time the cursor stops usually is when system resources are totally locked up to do something else?????

Just a hint - none of us is really smart on computers :D I think Microsoft made sure of that!

Exscentric, are you a bad speller, my spell checker said you were? ;)

I see you live in OR, 1993 I vacationed there mostly in the SW section and wish to move there, still don't know how that will pan out.

Back in the 60s I thought computer programing would be my cup of tea, now that I operate one of these beasts reality has sunk in, I'm not so smart after all.

What's really weird, about the same time of this incident dianetavegia's, oops there goes my spell checker again, avatar mysteriously appeared on the opening page of Firefox browser imbedded in the Google search box. I deleted all temporary files, cookies and trash bin items to no avail in attempt to get rid of her. I finally removed Firefox software and reinstalled it which successfully eliminated her presence. Now there's one stuborn lady.

Well, now if I were a bad speller, how would I know. You would have to tell me what I spelled incorrectly because I would not know I had spelled it incorrectly - in my humble opinion at least [IMG]

I looked it over and didn't find anything in my part of the post but then I AM a rotten speller. Too many years in a Christian educational system that didn't upgrade my English skills like they should! I'm much better after watching grammar checkers work for many years.

Oregon, yes, where the rain outdoes the sunshine :) We call it liquid sunshine! If you see a biker take a spill be sure to help him up before he drowns :D :D

I'm in the Northwest part. The SW is great, still not totally cityfied -- YET. Lots of political nuts and culty types down there as it is a good place to lose yourself.

Could be, didn't think about that, been using it so long it is my name - never think about it. Guess that makes me forgetful as well as a poor speller : :) :

If so, Nope, it is spelled just the way I wanted it [IMG]
