Many, many years ago I listened to Family Radio as it had some very good shows scheduled. One in particular was called "Unshackled", and was a radio drama from Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago, that covered stories of various people coming to salvation. It was very entertaining. In fact when or children were young we would all sit around the radio and listen to the show together. It was a great way to pass on the gospel to our children.

Also another show that Family Radio carried was "Famous Christians"; also a radio drama that often had more than one episode to finish a story. One particular drama that stands out is the story of young Michael Faraday, the father/inventor of the electric motor/generator.

Anyway, now there are not anymore sermons on Family Radio from various churches nor are there dramas anymore.

What I have heard on occasion with revulsion is this call-in show that is hosted by Family Radio Owner, Pastor Camping. Camping is so "apostate" with his yearly predictions of the end of the church age, and the beginning of the End Times travails of biblical proportions.

Camping has missed the mark so many times.

Anyway, I've often wondered what would happen with F.R. if Camping were to be gone from the scene. He is getting up in years, and I can't see him continuing his involvement.

Would the F.R. staff raise up someone who would reverse this "apostate" bent authored by Camping if Camping were permanently gone?

This is a major Christian radio network/station. I haven't listened to it for years. I know that millions of Christians have followed the same trend.

The only "plus" on F.R. is their music which is still very nice if you like the classic hymns sung by large choirs, and also the orchestral/symphonic presentations of Christian music.
    *****
I'll finish with this. Red flags got raised up in my mind some years back before Camping starting predicting the endtimes dates.

It was concerning his stance towards people who were in a second marriage. Camping staunchly stood in the position that anyone who remarried was living in an adultrous condition as God didn't recognize divorce.

I actually called up Camping on his call-in show and told him that my wife had been previously marriedl, but had divorced as her 1st husband had committed adultry numerous times. She was a Christian, and I a single Christian man married her, a divorced Christian woman. Camping informed me that I was committing adultry as well as my wife. I asked him about the 3 beautiful children that we had from our marriage. He wouldn't delve into their state, but staunchly held the position that I and my wife were living in sin. I asked him if God would be pleased if I left my wife, would that make things right? He just blew me off and cut me off on the phone line.

As young Christians we were very upset and confused.

How can this station continue to prosper/flourish with Campings twisted doctrine?

Mt. 5:32, But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.

Mark 10:11-12, He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."

Luke 16:18, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Adultery is not limited to just marital infidelity but anything that is a deviation from God's will.

In James the people are referred to as adulteresses.

Jer. 3:9, Because Israel's immorality mattered so little to her, she defiled the land and committed adultery with stone and wood.

Same thing as when old J. Vernon Magee died - someone will discover the money tree can still be shaken.

I have heard those "Unshackled" drama programs many many times. I have always found them to be absolutely wonderfull. They are just great. I'm sure many multitudes of people are in the Kingdom now because of the witness of those broadcasts.

I wish I could still get those.

    Bill,

The McGee broadcasts are still being broadcast exactly like they always were, with McGee still teaching. I listen to him just about every weekday.

They are simply re-broadcasting the original 5 year plan over and over again.

And its always just as good as the 1st time.

I'm not sure about this, but I think I heard somewhere that it was in his will that they be perpetually rebroadcast. No new teacher can come in, no new format can be put in place, etc etc

    Maybe someone can verify that.

Not quite getting what your "take" is on this. You entered several bible verses about adultery after quoting me concerning my phone call to Camping's show.

Are you saying that I and my wife are adulterer's? I hope I'm misunderstanding your post.

I like bible quotes, but I really like to hear from the poster in their own words too. :)

One verse did mention about "unfaithfulness"...........My wife's first husband was chasing every "skirt" around, while his wife ( my future wife )was carrying his baby.

I adopted that baby boy, as her ex-husband gave up parental rites in a "heart beat" when he knew he didn't have to pay child care anymore............(which he hadn't been after their divorce anyway)

That baby is a 38 year old, happily married man who has blessed us with a wonderfuldaugher in law and two beautiful grandkids. Yes, and he also calls me "Dad.".

I even helped that son of mine to find his biological father when my son indicated an interest in this man. I located the father and my son was invited to come out and visit him. My son was introduced to many relatives from that side of his biological dad's family. It was good for him to experience this as it filled a "void" in his life that he felt compelled to find-out about.

After spending some time with the biological father, our son told me that "You are my real Dad.". Can't tell you how that felt in my soul to receive that from my son.

He and his bio-dad are on speaking terms, but there doesn't seem to be any relationship beyond knowing one another.
    *****
I wonder how Camping would have handled that scenario and still called me an adulterer?

I believe that you need to understand the wider understanding of adultery. Adultery is much more than marital infidelity. If one divorces a spouse then the person forces that person to do things they would not do otherwise just by the fact of their action.

For example if my wife left me and divorced me it would cause me to be unfaithful to our marriage because of her action.

My response has nothing to with Camping. It seemed to me that you misunderstand scripture, and specifically adultery.

Your response may not be based on Camping's doctrine.

However your scriptural interpretation is very much as Camping uses it towards those that been married more than once, or folks who never married who married one who has been married before.

I assume from your post that "Married to one woman" in the deacon/elder part of the Pauline epistles means being married only once, and not one who was in a polygamus marriage as was common with the gentiles?

Camping believes that unfaithfulness of a marriage partner as regards to sexual integrity(have intercourse with someone other than one's spouse) is not "enough" in God's economy to end a marriage. In fact he/Camping sees no reason, short of death of one's spouse.

I truly believe that marriages torn-up due to adultery should be salvaged "if possible" with biblical counseling for both partners. However, I also believe that there are situations where reconciliation is not possible if only one partner is willing to work at reconciliation. What is the biblically reconciliable partner to do when the marriage vows are continuously violated with no forseeable repentance?

I'm also not here to defend my decision to marry my wife, but to bring up Camping's abherrent ministery. Sadly, including the phone call to Camping concerning my marriage led the direction of this topic off on another subject.

Since you went in another direction:

I would like to know if you think that scripturally you believe that an elder/deacon can be a 2nd-married person?

Grace: Also, GB.....How do you see the "grace" of God administered, in respect to His human creation? :)

I believe that an elder must have his home in order in that he is faithful to his wife and children. Before any consideration is made in the church I pastor the man must be currently making disciples. That starts with him and not us. If he is not reaching people then we do not see God's hand on him. If both his home is not in order and he is making disciples then he does not qualify.

I have seen divorced men serve as elders and have been great. One I know took full responsibility for his actions in the divorce. Today he is a very godly man and is a great leader in the church. I do warn men that they may experience judgment by the judgmental. However we see no room for the judgmental who hold themselves as the standard of righteousness.

Nothing has to end a marriage. It is a decision that is made by one or both in the marriage. All one has to do is to read the book of Hosea.

    Yes.

God gives us grace all the time. He gives us grace especially when we realized how much we fall short of God's glory and righteousness. The older I get and realize how short I fall, the more I show grace to others because of the grace shown me by God.

I was in Denver, CO back in the 1980's attending a 1 week training seminar for Lay Counseling. The attendee's were roomed at a motel in groups of 2-4 to a room depending on the amount of beds.

Anyway, one of my roommates was a Messianic Christian named Barry, who had his salvation story featured on "Unshackled"!

When we were done with seminar work/training and were back at the motel, Barry shared with us a more detailed story of how he a Jew, became a Christian. He was quite a person to listen to and be with. He had experienced a great deal of rejection from his family/relatives as a result of his conversion. Basically, he was the only one in his family at the time that I met him who was a Christian.

Also, Barry shared something else about the Messianic Jew.

He said that all that O.T. that was crammed into his up-bringing all fell into place when he received Christ. It was such a joyful event for him as Jew as Jesus filled in all the voids or wonderings of his Jewish/religious knowledge/traditions/life.

I actually was a bit envious as a gentile Christian as I realized that I was that "wild olive" grafted in, but Barry was part of the original domestic olive that had so much heritage behind his belief.

I didn't understand or comprehend all the connections in an "identification" way as Barry did with the O.T..

Never the less, Paul did say that there is no distinction in Christ; barbarian, scythian, you name it we are all one in Christ. :)

Been attending BSF for 5 years now and we are concentrating on the book of Isaiah. This study has really helped me to understand Barry's insight and joy of salvation. Also, the BSF study of the Moses' 4 books in previous years has been very helpful to me.

I am wondering what will happen to Family Radio past midnight of May 21, 2011, if the end of the world doesn't happen.
I feel bad for Camping's staff, his listeners, his supporters, and his financiers.
They all believe the guy and they all look forward to being raptured on the date given above.
If that doesn't happen, what are they going to do ?
you now have a little more number of people walking around disappointed at .....Harold Camping ? nah, they're bound to blame religion and preaching and born again Christians and preachers and Christ and everybody else but the false prophet.

If I recall correctly, when Camping didn't get it right a few years ago on the end times, he basically excused it as not factoring-in some other bits of scripture that would make his calculations more accurate.

Interestingly, the founder of the Watch Tower or Jehovah's Witnesses declared a time for the end that was in the early 1900's. It didn't happen.

Can't understand how Camping who believes himself to be such a purist biblically can't recall where Jesus says that the time is not known to man, but only to God. Even Jesus said that He didn't know the date/time until the Father reveals it to Him.

I would surmise that as Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father, He is fully informed of what, when, and how things will transpire concerning the "Day Of The Lord".
    *****
Yes, a good question: What will come of the myriads of Family Radio listeners, and staff people when their founder's predictions go awry again?

It might not be too different from the congregation that is shocked by the anouncement that their beloved, gifted, popular, pastor has broken his marriage vows and steps down.

Times like this are real eye-openers, as God shakes things up in His endeavors to get our eyes of of people and onto Him as the source of all things.

I still remember when we attended a mega-church and our pastor crossed the line of morality in his marriage. It was announced one Sunday. Thousands of Christian members were stunned. I was one of them along with my wife.

What I learned: Man will inevitably let you down, but God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Hopefully F.R.'s staff and listeners will be able to come to that conclusion and move on in their Christian walk.

He won't have any excuses at this time.
I used to work for FR back in 2002 before my bypass op.
I was translating Radio Broadcast transcripts from English to Filipino (Tagalog) which is my native language.
It was a pretty good relationship and I was doing things the way they wanted: verbatim.
But sometimes when the verbatim sounds awful I try to make it a little more grammatically correct, and they accused me of altering their doctrines.
    That ended the relationship.
Still I like listening to them because of the music they played.
They also used to air taped programs of John McArthur, Chuck Swindoll, RC Sproul, but now all they have are the music and Harold Camping's rubbish.
