I've learned that some fundamentalists really are committed Christians and good people. I've also learned that some beliefs that I thought were farcical stereotypes (no-dancing, no women in pants, KJV-onlyism, baptist successionism) are genuinely held by sincere believers.

I have learned that Baptists can really get testy online, just like they do in the real world.

Diane, it only takes your e-mail falling into one spammers hands one time for you to make it on all spammers' lists. Even if you've never, ever registered for anything online; if one of your friends were to get a virus that sent out e-mails claiming to be from people in their address book (including you) your e-mail address could end up all over the internet.

    Joshua,

Not much makes me angrier than receiving
someone's stinking pornography garbage in my
    e-mail. I already dropped one e-mail address
because they got a hold of it and were devilishly
relentless, sending trash having titles that would
    embarrass the worst among us.

Using my new address, I was receiving a daily
e-mail from a religious site, which I had
requested. Well, after so long, I did not want to
receive any more. I cancelled with them, and
immediately, I began receiving more porno
e-mails. Now, I am going to have to get rid of
    this one.

With my stinking system, I cannot stop the
e-mails from coming, there is no filter, and the
provider could not care less. Right now, I am
angry enough to send my provder's address to
the porno pigs who have been sending their
insane sophomoric drivel to me. I may do that.

    Yeah, I'm upset.

Diane and Abyaih, If you follow my direction (posted earlier), you can choose what cookies to delete.
Whe you pull up properties, you will see three sections (on the first page). The middle one says, delete cookies, delete files, then settings. Click on settings. The middle button says view files. Click on that, it will show you everything (temp files and cookies). You just delete anything that is not familiar.
My daughter found a "hunger site", each time she logs on it, someone gives money to feed the poor. I keep these cookies, so she can keep track of how much good she has done.
Really it works. Haven't had ANY smutt, since I started doning this.

Rev. Joshua, I had read that off the Obscenity Crimes page. Oh it's so upsetting.

I've set my email up so that messages don't download as they come in. That helps me prevent Nick from seeing anything. Today I have multiple pictures....... like Abiyah mentioned.

This sure infuriates me! That Satan is able to enter my home without my invitation... thru this smut!

Bellsouth has MailGuard but it won't catch this junk because the porn people are using different email addresses almost daily. I send the things that come through to them also. Yesterday I added some message rules to keep certain words from coming through. I can't send those that are blocked to Obscenity Crimes but I just don't want to receive these!

    Diane

One thing I've learned off this board... People would much rather chat than go to the prayer board to pray for true needs. THAT is SAD!

Perhaps there is more prayer being offered than is displayed. I do not announce to the world that I pray. I go to my Father in my closet which is in secret.

    Cheers,

No, my provider does not have the cookies other
systems have. This is probably a warning for
those who are tempted to receive their Internet
service from their cable TV provider, a service
which puts the Internet on the TVs in the house.
I am using it because of problems with my PC
and because of limited phone lines in my 95-
year-old house as well as limited electrical
outlets. I keep promising myself this will all be
fixed soon, but it has taken longer than I expected.
Such sites and programs do not work on this
    system.

I have learned there is more to talk about than continuous pornography spam talk!

I have learned that I am sick of hearing it; and wish this forum would get back to the really good discussions it use to have.

My sweet Sherrie, perhaps you have all the
barriers in place and you have not had to deal with
it on a daily basis -- or with the shock of starting to
receive it after stopping apparently innocent sites
from sending e-mails. I have to see it on my e-mail
everytime I open it, and it is very frustrating as well
as embarrassing. It also makes me angry that
certain people in our world are such users who
refuse to recognize my personal boundaries. It
is an insult to me as a woman, as a human being,
as a believer, faced daily. I actually hate to open
my own e-mail because of it, letting it go for days
because I don't want to face it.

With my system, in order to get rid of it, I must
open it -- something I do not want to do! If I
open it, my eyes are bombarded, and their
system detects that it has been opened, causing
them to send more and to resell my address to
others who send it. If I don't open it, it sits in my
mail box for me to see.

Sometimes, it appears to be from someone I
know, so I open it. Worse, little children and
young people receive it! These people have no
    conscience!

Sherrie, it is a daily problem for me, and one that
makes me very angry. Of course, I want people to
know that this particular type of Internet service I
have will not stop it, in order to warn them against
getting it. Also, this board is a "sounding board"
for some of us; this is just one thing I happen to
be bothered by, so I brought it up.

    Abiyah,

Can you not just right click your mouse on it and delete it without opening it? I thought every email system had that option.
If it doesn't, I might suggest changing email providers. Or ISP's.

No, I can't do that. I must open it, then while the
page is in my face, click the delete button, which
takes me to a screen that asks me if I am sure I
want to delete, then click the delete button there.
Unfortunately, this process to get rid of the junk
lets their systems know they have a live address.

I have complained to my provider, and they could
not care less, nor will they consider any changes
to the system to make it better.

My own PC has had problems, which prevent me
from receiving Internet on it. My son came over
and fixed this recently, but he has one more thing
he must do in order fo me to hook it up. Also, we
are having trouble with both the electricity and
phone line in the computer room. All these must
be ironed out before I can get away from this
    provider.

I sure do wish it were simpler!!

I have not had this problem although I do get instant messages from someone called "Hot Girl", does anyone know her?

I hope this works out for you Abiyah. I would like to see the government do more about pornography, but with it being such a money maker I don't know.... It's not even as though they need these ads, I am sure that if someone wants to see it, it is not hard to find.

What I have learned is that once you open it, it will multiply. (regarding unwanted junk e-mail)

Abiyah, there really should be a way to not open it. I would speak to your provider, or find another one. Integrity Online is very good. It's what the people in my church usually have as a rule.

To get back on topic...I've learned that everyone is human and all that that implies. And that conversing with every type of person will bring every type of reaction. It's not as easy as in the real world in some ways, and in some ways it's easier too. We are robbed of our senses here, we have to believe the best about people, based on faith and our ability to read and articulate what we mean with the limits of a keyboard and our minds. And sometimes that puts us in a precarious position doesn't it? But where there is no risk, there is also no reward.

    God Bless You,
    Charlotte

What have I learned from this Board?

    1. That homosexuality is not a sin.

    2. That abortion is not murder.

    3. That Muslims worship the same God as Jews and Christians.

    4. That the Bible is not literal.

    5. That hell is not a real place of torment, fire, suffering and eternal damnation.

    6. That the Jews (Israel) are not God's chosen people.

    7. That there is no Rapture of the Church.

    8. That the Church replaced Israel and God's Covenant with Israel is no more.

    9. That morality is in the eyes of the beholder - it is an individual judgment call.

    10. The death penalty is wrong - God instituted it but that is now null and void. Murderers can be rehabilitated and reached for Christ - therefore, should escape a death sentence.

    11. That the United States as a nation has no redeeming values.

    12. It is okay to treat the American flag with disrespect.

    13. "Baptists" can't agree on anything.

    14. What Scripture teaches is subject to interpretation, depending on who is doing the interpreting and depending on whether or not the interpreter believes Scripture to be the Word of God.

Well, thanks, you two! At least I'm not alone. [IMG]

At this point, I'm pretty disgusted. It reminds me of a free for all.

There are just certain things that should not even be debatable among Baptists. :(

But perhaps the term "Baptist" has become diluted and another generic word like the term "Christian." On the way downhill like the Methodists, Presbys, and other denominations that have bitten the dust in lieu of popularity, political correctness, and ecumenicism.

That's about how it looks from behind my mouse.

    Even so, Come, Lord Jesus.
