Post truth, not your opinion, which seem to differ from each other..

I don't accept opinion from people who play God.

I really don't know why I bother visiting BB anymore.

Especially right before bed....

Good night.

You know Tim, I don't know if my 'church' Bible is real leather or not. It may be time for a(nother) new Bible if'n I want one up to the 'standard'.

Call them "grace robbing" sites if you desire...I call them Biblical and they are warning believers about the "ravenous wolves" (i. e. Thomas Nelson Publishers, for one) that are deceiving the flock. Before you continue to condemn my husband for preaching the truth (which you define as "legalism"), check out these so-called "grace robbing" sites for yourself.

I see nowhere in the Word of God (not a Bible-zine) that we are to use the world's methods to win the lost to Christ.

From Revolve p. 317:

Q: I was just wondering is MTV or rap music bad to watch and listen to?
A: God is present everywhere, even on MTV. But, don’t feed your mind that stuff 24/7. Whatever you constantly feed your mind, that is what you will believe. So spend more time talking to God and reading the Word. Dig into that and then you will see him everywhere.

God is present everywhere, even on MTV???

That is plain deceitful. That is like saying "God is everywhere, even in pornography."

The so-called spiritual advice in Revolve is mis-leading and many so-called leaders are too blind to point the youth in the right direction.

From Revolve p. 196

Q: What do I do if my parents only let me use KJV? They say the modern versions aren’t accurate, but I can’t understand it!
A: Grab a couple of different versions of the Bible and sit down with your parents. In the front of any translation, it should explain to you how the translation was written [Does this one?]. In most any modern translation the scholars did extensive research in the original languages. They are very accurate. But the thing here is that you have to honor you parents. So sit and talk with them, explain to them that you’d like to deepen your Bible study, and see what they say."

Wow! They even teach the children to be disobedient to their parents. Yea, hath God said, 'Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right'? Nevermind the Word of God, follow the advice of Revolve... rebel.

Why Standing Firm, are you saying God isn't present everywhere? You think He isn't watching MTV with a look of displeasure on His face? Hmphf!

Now I'm sure you had rather the publishers make a strong statement as to the trashyness of MTV but....you tell a teen no and what do you think it accomplishes? Nothing but curiousity. Instead, the publishers clearly warn that what one fill the mind with is what you will believe and put the burden for changing those beliefs squarely on the Holy Spirit by encouraging the only thing that has a chance of clearly showing the trouble with MTV, that is-- Read the Word!

God knows what goes on on MTV. He does not have to watch it.

My Bible tells me God takes no pleasure in unrighteousness.

Revolve seems to speak contrary to this.

Try again, SF. They clearly say this is one area where the young person must honor their parents. Questioning ones parents is not disobedience!

The teens said her parents told her she was not to have other Bibles. That child, as long as she lives under her parents roof is to listen to her parents.

Revolve clearly told the child to disobey her parents. "Grab a couple of different versions of the Bible and sit down with your parents."

If that is not telling the child to disobey, I don't know what is.

Recommend using this Scripture from the Word of God:
Note that I directly quote a book I have.
This passage is not hearsay!

1 Corinthians 10:32-33 (KJV1611 Edition):
Giue none offence, neither to the Iewes, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the Church of God:
33 Euen as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine owne profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saued.

I find nowhere in the Bible where a 'magazine' is prohibited to carry Bible truth.

The women who came to my church dressed like street walking business girls got saved and the older ladies of the church taught them modest dressing LOGIC instead of lame rules made by male persons who are so old they have no sexual interest left.

The people who need to be reached by the churches in my town generallyl live in the 21st Century (2001-2100) -- I've gone years without seening any Amish 17th Century (1601-1700) type folk around my town. People from 174 foreign countries live in my town (University town) -- my town is a Foreign Mission Field where the aliens come to us. Needless to say, many speak English as a SECOND LANGUAGE. They need to use the New INTERNATIONAL Version (NIV) of 21st Century English not some version from four centruies earlier.

For the record, this is not a picture of a Bible. This is a picture of a manuscript or part of a scroll. There was never a Bible that looked like this. As has already been pointed out, a Bible is a book - not a scroll.

What's in a Bible?

It looks like we've left the original question,

What does a bible look like?

...and entered into another area...

What does a bible contain?

I've only owned one study bible [a black leather New Scofield Reference, wide margin], it was a gift from a friend.

I found myself, like many others, studying its notes rather than the bible, I've never purchased one since.

Here I must conclude I agree with ol' King James proclamation concerning his KJV, that [theological] notes should be kept to a minimum.
(I do however enjoy the multiple textual notes of the NET bible and others).

The study notes in a bible do have a place for new believers.
They answer questions:
They help to orient the new believer to a theological structure or system.

One wonders though if their inclusion in a bible makes the reader less cautious or discerning.
Most know this but fail to heed the warning: You should critically research and question study notes, they are not inspired!

There are some things that the BibleZines include in their notes that I disagree with strongly.
(although I'm not confirming SFIC's accusations)

But it's format makes it an introductory tool to be replaced rather quickly with a more sturdy bible (how long can a magazine last with a teen?).
On the whole though they have done a fair job.

Rob

Bolded above my emphasis...
Still waiting for the page number!!!!

Either show us that on "practically every page" Revolve 2 has people "boasting about their sex life."
plus show us where this "instance" is in Revolve 2....
Or admit you are intentionally misleading the public about the biblezine.

I would have said "lying" instead of "intentionally misleading" but you as a God fearing preacher would never lie, or print false accusations against someone else, now would you?

BTW, God IS on MTV... What does the Bible say? even if I make my bed in Hell, God is there? I have seen Christian videos on MTV... POD is one band that has been on there..... And not every secular song is trash.

Also, the Biblezine never told the girl to disobey her parents... but to HONOR them... to discuss a situation with them... get a couple translations and sit down WITH them... And then notice what it says at the end.... listen to what they say.

I am we need more parents willing to discuss issues with their children, instead of giving ridiculous commandments to them like "Thou shalt only read an archaic version of the Bible"...

But of course, the truth really comes out... you don't like it, because it is not a KJV.

All the early church had were scrolls....
I wonder how they hid the word in their heart back then?
They didn't have a leather bound KJV to carry with them to church...

They listened, and then searched the scrolls...

So the true Bible books are scrolls... I wonder how hard it would be to carry 66 scrolls to church on Sunday?

Thank God for the printing press...
