Here is a definition of war crimes. What is your thought about what constitutes a war crime?

    Was Hitler a war criminal?
    Was Tojo a war criminal?
Who, in history, in your opinion was a war criminal?

And you say I do not answer questions.

I see you do not want a serious discussion, maybe other will discuss rationally.

Where did I say anything about David? I didn't!
It is interesting that you say that according to the definition I quoted that David was a war criminal.

I gave a definition and I ask if you believe Tojo and Hitler were war criminals.
    Now were they war criminals?

Curtis' question is legitimate and serious. According to your definition was King David a war criminal? What's being debated here is your definition or at least the definition you offered up in your OP.

Keeping in mind the concept of war criminal is a relatively recent one.

I didn't say anything. I asked a question. Questions drive you nuts, eh ? They make you put words in people's mouths .

I merely asked, if, by the definition you provided, we were to consider David's actions as King of Israel war crimes. I never said an opinion either way. Remember, this is your thread, and your definition.

No, he was simply attempting to not answer my questions. He accused me in another thread of not answering his question ... which was wrong. But he will not answer a direct question. He was simply trying to derail the thread into a useless argument. I have no opinion on David as I have not thought about it in this context, nor have I researched the question.

Do you believe Davd was a war crimnal?
    Was Tojo a war criminal?
    Was Hitler a war crimiinal?

You are correct, the concept of a person being a war criminal came into being by the allies at the end of WW II.

I believe your definition covers David, don't you ? The other two are foolish questions, and I simply won't engage them.

I replied, now will you answer my question or will you continue to play games to avoid giving an opinion?

Did I miss you answering the David question ? Well maybe.....

Well I would encourage you to stop reading about Bush & war crimes and study your Old Testament. David's "war crimes" are well documented in scripture. Didja know he kept Goliath's head, so other countries would know what kind of warrior he was ? He made Rambo look like Stuart Smalley.

So you believe David was a war criminal. Interesting. Glad to see you can actually give an aswer.

I have not accused Bush of being a war criminal or even said if is a possibility. Do you believe he is a war criminal?

Again you dishonestly put words in my mouth. I didn't call David a war criminal. I said your definition would put him in that category. I believe the definition you gave may cover the actions of Bush & congress, with a little twisting. There's a lot of wiggle room. Are you going to answer my question on David ?

It is difficult to look back at history, especially biblical history, and apply a law enacted by a political group to govern rules of war in modernity. For example, Japan never agreed to the Geneva Convention, and it "broke" every law in the book during WWII. They were never charged with war crimes, but Germany was and a few were executed.

In my mind, a war crime is judged by those who never experienced the battlefield.

During WWII, my father marched through Holland taking German prisoners alive, treated them humanely. When his battalion witnessed little children on the end of German batonettes, they took no more prisoners. They broke a law, but they reacted as decent humans who experienced war.

In Korea the law was often broken after civilians carried bombs strapped to their bodies, often women and children, and exploded them when they had enough soldiers handing out food and chocs to them, the soldiers ended up shooting and asking questions later. We experienced the brutality of war in the field. What law?

Sure it was wrong, but it was a human reaction to reality. It was kill or be killed.

Whose law? The Geneva Convention essentially established by the free world.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Well, I guess you could say Germany started committing war crimes in that they built up a military after signing a treaty saying they wouldn't. Japan I don't believe was under such restrictions, at the time.

One more thought, the G/C is not recognized by a lot of the countries on our list of not-so-nice regimes.

No, you did not answer Curtis' question. By the definition you gave in your Original Post, do you consider King David a war criminal? you also asked
I think and Curtis might agree that according to the definition given David might be convicted in a 21st century court. However, I think and Curtis might agree with me that such a finding is irrelevant, immaterial, and bogus.
