    Hi everyone...

I am curious as to what everyone considers alien immersion?

Thanks in advance for your honest input.

I believe alien immersion (while I do not use the term) is those who have the right mode of baptism but for the wrong reason.

Groups include---Church of Christ, Mormons, Oneness Pentecostals and various cult groups.

My opinion is somewhat the same as Bro Tony's here. If there is clear unscriptural doctrinal error, though the person may have been baptised in the right mode, I could not accept their baptism.

I'd say that dipping a Vulcan or a Klingon would fit the category... [IMG]

I would like to agree with Bro Tony, BUT MORMONS are not and never have been believers in the Creator & Savior Jesus Christ.

    El_Guero,

That was my point. While they baptize by immersion the reason for their baptism certainly is not biblical. You really can't get any more alien than Mormonism.

I believe I have heard the term used in the sense that some Baptists would re-Baptize those that have already been saved and baptized but coming from a background that is either non-Baptist, or closely related to the cults. For example there are many who re-baptize a Charismatic though he be saved and baptized, just for the symbolic reason of making a clear break from the past of being a Charismatic.
Isn't this what alien baptism is?

The reason I asked the question in the first place was...

That many pastors within the association that I am a member of...

believe and teach that anyone coming from any church, that is not of "like faith and order" then that persons baptism would be considered alien.

examples would include... a Methodist, Nazerene, General Baptists, Freewill Baptists and other groups that teach backsliding.

So brothers and sisters in Christ, tell me what do you think?

I am not a landmarker, but:

    1. Any denomination that does not baptize in the right way does not have baptism, even if they will baptise some individuals in the right way on personal request. All those "water ceremonies" are certainly not valid.

    2. Anyone who does not baptize for the right reason (e.g., if they think baptism saves or helps save a person) is preaching another gospel (Gal 1:6-9), and their water ceremony is not a baptism, since they are not a church and are not preaching the real gospel.

    3. Anyone who was baptized as an infant was an improper candidate for baptism, so anyone coming from a church that has a water ceremony like that has not been baptized.

I agree with Major B. I seen some Baptist churches that require folks to be baptized in their church or they consider it "alien". Although this is extreme it does occur. My main concern in dealing with people is not what church they come from by the why and how of their baptism. That being said there are some because of the church they come from that I already know the why and how and would require the to be Scripturally baptized. I not into rebaptizing believers I am into baptizing believers the right way and for the right reason. Biblically that would be their first baptism.

I agree with Major B, although I do wonder about the Spock thing .
Now there are some Pastors which are much stricter. They insist on baptizeing anybody who was not baptized in the right kind of Baptist church. An example would be not recognizeing any baptism by a church which is a member of the world council of churches.
Lots of variation.Of course not baptism from a cultic or heretical group counts as a baptism.

Uhhh, baptism of extraterrestrial sentient beings? How about baptism of persons who are not US citizens?

Seriously, alien baptism is baptism performed outside a Baptist fellowship. For example, if I were baptized as a believer by immersion in, say, a Methodist congregation, that would satisfy the requirements for baptism according to the Baptist Distinctives (which are: being a believer, and being immersed). Hence, if such a person were to join the local Baptist church, he/she would not need to be baptized again.

If ALF shows up in my church and gives a clear profession of salvation and gave forth fruits meet for repentance, I would baptise him. :D :D [IMG]

Immersion giving through any mode, or for any reason, different than that presented by the New Testament!

alien immersion is baptizing a mexican in america ;) or giving ET a bath whichever you apply the word alien to be lol.

I believe alien immersion is doing it for the wrong reason ie no true heartfelt salvation experience before baptism.
